Ideas for mounting REAR dashcam?

I've run all my wires and had my rear dashcam set up for a bit, basically set up something like this:

Held on to the ceiling via that headliner clip. I didn't end up liking it for 2 main reasons:
- While fairly low profile, I managed to knock it a bunch with either my head or cargo
- I guess I could have adjusted further, but it sits "back" from the window, so any dirt easily gets in the way plus the heating element lines.

I was thinking I'd actually rather have it mounted to the hatch and to raise up out of the way when the hatch is open.

I'm not really sure HOW to go about this though - with the hatch closed, there is seemingly no gap between the window frame and the car frame/weatherstripping.

Any ideas for how to attach the camera to the hatch door frame rather than the back window?

What brand do you have? I have a BlackVue mounted in the same spot and have had no issues as far as visibility out the window. Did hit it a couple times at first, but adjusted quickly.

Just off the top of my head without looking would be running the wires in the same channel as the rear window control/backup cam wires into the hatch. Should be able to come out in the same place as the backup cam, just might have to drill another hole.

That's how mine is set up.

Obviously for the missing lines, both lines meet at the corner. Same concept as the front right corner except on the other side. A cheap money clip or a clasp-like with a silver plate and insert it in between the head liner and use 3M tape for the camera/clip. No drilling, no tearing needed.

Unless your rear camera is a brick - this should be the perfect solution for you.

Yeah yours is very similar to mine, but I guess yours is even more low profile. I also moved it "forward" a bit to be a bit closer to the window, but that also means it doesn't tuck into the roofline as well.

I ended up doing this. Drilled a small hole in the mount, cleaned the rubber at top of window very well, stuck it on then reinforced with a self tapper. Checked the window slot, and it didn't pop through to hit window. It's about as high as it can go!

Plexiglass

I mounted a dash camera to the end of a sheet of plexiglass. I just stick it above the passenger side sun visor so it sticks out the front. I could use a longer piece of plexiglass and mount the rear camera so it looks through the whole cabin toward the back. I know this isn't ideal to get the best rear view video, but it is completely removable without making any holes or sticky tape residue. I use it in rental cars this way. It's pretty universal.

Mounted mine of the bottom of the window

Drilled a small hole to run the wires for the BlackVue and used 3M tape for the camera on the moulding. Threw a small grommet in the hole for the finishing touches and I have had this set up for a year at least and the rear window is down quite a bit for the dog. No issues with it moving around or the wind blowing it out the back.
