If you have used NAPA cv axles please reply

I posted in this thread back in July when I got my remanufactured cv's from NAPA. I looked at them about 3 weeks ago, and all 4 boots are literally torn in half. They didnt even last me 7 months. I used the 4x4 several times over the winter, but havent done any wheeling. Really dissapointing. My front lift is 2" at the very most.

Seems that the NAPA new cvs have had the best results for everybody for the longest time. The pair only comes out to an exrta 40 bucks total new over remans and lifetime vs 3yr warranty. Seems like a no brainer now. Glad you're still under warranty though, good luck with the next pair.

I'm gonna bump this thread.

I have an OEM CV that the boots gave out on. I've been driving on it for a few months now and I think it's starting to pop so I figured I should get around to changing it. Reading this thread I wanna buy the NAPA New ones so I can reboot my OEM one and keep as a spare. From what I read here everyone is getting the new ones for around $90. Online it's showing the MaxDrives as $110 and the Altroms at $130.

So have the prices gone up or are the prices just different in-store?

After reading this I just changed my order to the new one instead of the reman.

Its a 96 with 260,000 miles and it appears I am the first to take the drivers side front apart.

I had a buddy back in my ricer days that ran NAPA axles on his 512 horsepower Civic sedan (no joke). They honored the warranty twice, as I recall. He only broke them twice, which is better luck than most people would get out of OEM Honda with that kind of power.

Apples to oranges, but I think this counts as a vouch for NAPA axles.

How is one to know??

My research has shown the boots tear post lift installation. My inner boots (outer portion) are torn bilaterally. Not sure how long.. no noise at present. How does one determine of there is a need to replace axels or just re-boot. I have boot kit, but do I need axels as well????

chances are if they just started spewing then you're good. it really depends on whether or not you've gotten much dirt in them and had the joints grind on one another without grease. At that point they would be making noise. If they just started leaking then rebooting is fine...if you aren't getting any noises or anything go for it. Otherwise go with napa news they've done great for myself and others.

Buy cvj axles!! Only a little more money. All toyota parts, and stronger boots. I have 40k on mine with at least 3k off road. No issues!

Just going to leave this here:

Would you rather occasionally break a CV, or have the CV in-tact and break something in the diff?

:hiding:

Still no problems. There is one on each side now. There is 130,000 miles on the 4 Runner now so I guess it's been around 8 or 10 k mile since the first one was installed.

They held up to several trails at TSF with my ARB. Never an issue. Of course I wasn't super hard on things and was smart about it... No sharp turns locked up, no power romps when flexed out. I did however romp on it pretty god a couple of times on smoother sections of the main gravel roads with no issues

That's what I tried explaining a month or so back when a few axle related threads popped up. I suggested the Napa Premium axles with lifetime warranty with the old factory axles rebooted and carried as trail spares. I had nothing but good things to say about them when I ran the Napa's. Never tore a boot or broke an axle off road with the Napa axles, that's with some pretty gnarly wheeling I used to do too. Sure you can break one, especially in some situations where heavy throttle or bumping a ledge is required, but for the most part it's a good replacement axle when needed for the price/warranty and if it breaks, your not out an $OEM axle, or vice versa.. reboot your OEM axles and carry Napa as trail spares so you have an axle to get home.

Is NAPA still selling the Altroms for the 4Runner/GX? I can't seem to find them on NAPA's site for our trucks and only point me to the MaxDrives. I don't mind the MaxDrives but as I read earlier in this thread, the Altroms seem to be OEM.

Does anyone have a model number on the Altroms?
