If you have used NAPA cv axles please reply

Well Saturday I went wheeling, first really hard wheeling I have done in probably a year... With ARBs and 4.88s I didn't break an axle but I was also careful not to turn to full lock or dig a tire and get it pinned in...

That ledge is called waterfall. Its about a 8-10' climb, its got a ledge about half way up, but in the mud it just wasn't happening and I snapped my sway bar earlier in the day so my body roll was more than I was used to so I just decided to winch out. But I have never seen a IFS truck attempt the waterfall none the less make it.

Happy to report that was not my rig that broke and got welded on the trail... But it worked and got him off the trail and home

This sounds good to me, I have a NAPA near my house.

Are you replacing due to worn/split boots or are your CVs worn out?

Reason I ask is that if you are replacing due to split boots, you can keep the old CVs and reboot them and keep them as trail spares. That's what I did, rebooted one and kept it with me when wheeling.

yep, gonna reboot it & keep it as a trail spare.

FWIW just some info on the Altrom brand. Altrom does not manufacture anything, the go to the manufacturers that supply Automobile Manufactures and buy the most commonly replaced parts from them.

So for example the CV shafts won't say Toyota on them but if GMB Manufactures the CV shafts for Toyota then Altrom will buy those parts from GMB.

It can get tricky with Altrom, they also have a value line within the line called Ultra 8, I would stay away from those parts most the time as they will be an aftermarket manufacturer most the time.

The best part about Altrom is if you get a smart counter person you can get the factory parts just not under the toyota name. My timing belt kit is all OE and I think the tensioner actually did come in a Toyota box.

If you have any Napa questions or problems, I worked there for 15 years and just recently quit due to company politics, but I still have a lot of connections and am happy to provide info and help out.

Also I remember all the CV's being lifetime, even the reman. I can double check.

I just picked up some new Napa CV axles last night.

The remans are a 3 year warranty.

The other 2 price points for new are $88 & $109.

New Cardone NAPA CV axles are junk. And so is their lifetime warranty as they will not honor clamps and boots. On both axles within couple months couple clamps fell off, when I went to NAPA they handed me couple more THE SAME clamps :crybaby:, I said no thanks and installed plumbers clamps which can be tightened. Now a year later I have 6 out of 8 NAPA original clamps either leaking grease or fell of (replaced plumbers one hold great ever since). Today I just noticed that one of the boots is completely torn all the way around (just a year since installed new). And boots are not covered under warranty. :pound: So yes, they junk and I will never buy anything NAPA again.

We know the Cardone's are junk. You want the Napa Max-Drive new not remans.

I just ordered a Max-Drive for the drivers side. I replaced the PS last year. The price went down from $88 last year to $79 this year.

Mine were not remans. They were brand new as stated in original post. Its very sad when new axle falls apart within a year or two. And they didn't had option of Maxlife when I ordered over the counter. But I'm in Canada so probably different options.

Just read through this, and I'm liking what I'm hearing about Napa. Just found a pin hole in my outer boot so I'm patching it for now, but I am moving away from O'Reilly items for my 4Runner. Their customer service had drove me away. For years it was our Napa that was the worse. New management and they are a total 180* different. I've even told them so and it has brought me back to them.

So when I got my truck it basically had no boot on either inside joint, not re-booting those puppies...
So I planned to get this done soon now that I'm driving a bit more and it's wet.

So Napa Maxdrive New is what I want (for the best choice of not doing it again soon), right?

Yes...

Thread Update:

My PS Napa Max-Drive is still holding up fine after 1.5 years & 8000 miles. The DS Max-Drive only has a few miles on it. I still plan on re-booting my 2 OEM's.

How do I decide if it's worth rebooting the OEMs or if they'll need "more" in terms of overhaul. I'm pretty sure they've been bootless for a year or more....

If they make a clicking noise they're no good.
I drove my DS for a year with a ripped boot & it never made any bad sounds.
I think JayRolla rode his for 3 years with no issues. LOL

I believe Im over 4 years now on ripped boots.

Anyone have an opinion on the standard neoprene boot vs the "heavy duty" thermoplastic option? Looks like it's an extra $18 each but is that "money well spent"? So far the only boot failure I've had is the inboard joint and that's against the shaft, not the joint end.
