Installed 7th, time for tuning!

I installed my 7th injector this past weekend along with the 2.2 pulley and wow what a difference!! I've been reading the u-tune guide getting familiar with how to tune this beast. I have a wideband installed, innovate mtx-l but my main question is which obd2 scan tool should I get. The one that gadget says to get in the u-tune guide is no longer made it seems. I don't want to blow a ton of money on something I just need a good and inexpensive tool that will have good enough software for me to monitor the fuel trims. Anyone got any suggestions? I have a nexus 7 with torque installed but I doubt this will suffice. Also I noticed that when I WOT now my AFR is anywhere from 11.2 to 11.5 I've seen threads where people say 11.8-12.0 is the magic zone. What should my AFR be when applying mid throttle? It's been hovering around 14-15 until I WOT. Sorry for all the questions but any help is appreciated:)

No suggestions on a good scan tool? I wish the obd2 br-3 was still made but I can't find it anywhere.
 
From all the threads I've looked at a scangauge is not recommended for tuning fuel trims. Everyone seems to use a obd2 br-3 by obddiagnostics.com which doesn't exist anymore. I need a decent scan tool that will connect to my laptop.

I have a BR-3 and I suspect they stopped making it because it still uses a serial port connection which laptops generally don't have anymore. I got mine to work with a serial-to-USB adapter, but they can be very unreliable. It's probably better to stick with something newer that is either USB or bluetooth.

Good for you for tuning, I suspect not many on this forum actually do it, or at least they don't reply to my tuning posts. The performance of my truck has increased exponentially from just tuning.

11.2 to 11.5 is good, my out-of-the-box URD tune wasn't nearly rich enough even with my stock pulley.

Mid-throttle AFRs depends...when I first installed my URD box I was supplied with the incorrect wiring diagram and I never made any connection to the oxygen sensor. The net result was the "closed loop enrichment" feature wasn't being used and therefore my truck would run 14.7:1 until it went into open loop. Two weeks ago I received the right diagram, hooked up the appropriate wires and now I hit around 12.5:1 at 3psi+ in closed loop. That is what the closed loop enrichment mode is supposed to do. If you hooked that feature up you should see similar results. The default is that mode activates at 3 psi.
 
Wow your afr's look really good without tuning, I would say your AFR at WOT is not great. Your idle and cruise at low or no boost should be around 14.7 and like stated by post above mine around 3psi you should be riching up around 12-12.5 and mid 11's at WOT. Once you get into the type of tuning your doing its a good idea to get an aftermarket knock sensor to detect detonation and maybe running e85 but that might require larger fuel pump and injectors.

Ive been tuning a long time, I also was wondering what you guys use too tune the AFR and maybe timing on these beasts. I have a greddy emanage and was thinking it may wire up, but not sure, I need too research more. I plan to supercharge one day, was wanting to keep my good gas mileage but Im tired of no power.

Im used to my 400whp talon, and all I still tune all my buddys high hp cars. I miss having the power to pass on the highway with ease.
 
Well this is frustrating as all hell!!! I got 2 usb to serial cables, 1 for my afr guage and the other for the URD box. I can't get the r4 software to connect to my ecu at all. I installed usb to serial drivers for win7 and still nothing. I reassigned com ports, nothing. I have been searching for obd2 software that I could use via bluetooth on my laptop and they all suck. Most don't even work, they just freeze after they connect, tried obd2spy, easyobd2, scan xl (which looks ok but the free version won't show much) wobd2 which is crazy slow and the fuel trims are all out of wack. None of these show if I'm in open or closed loop either, so I'm very frustrated. I'd love simple software like supplied with the br3 unit that gadget recommends in his utune pdf but it's not made anymore, awesome!! I can't even look at my fuel map because I can't connect to my ECU. Any suggestions for something I haven't tried or good software???
 
I think you'll find alot of useful info in the build thread for my '01. I don't have alot of time these days to re-post all of that info for you here, but I'm just getting dialed in on my tuning setup using the BR-3, an Innovate WB, the URD 7th, a couple USB to Serial converters, and a laptop running Windows 7 64 bit.
 
Thanks for the tip BFAD I just ordered that usb to serial that you got. So we'll wait and see how that goes. I need good software to measure open/closed loop and fuel trims etc. Torque on my nexus 7 shows it but it's not logged on my laptop so it's a pain to deal with. Everytime I try import a log from it into excel it just shows gps and rpms, that's it.
