OK, if you really want to keep the spiders and other bugs out of your truck, then do the following.
Skip the mothballs, essential lemon oil and drier sheets. Unless you want your truck to smell like a snuggly queer cedar chest.
Get Permethrin. Spray it on your carpets, seats, headliner - anything cloth. You'll need to check if it is OK for leather. It isn't like deet, so you don't have to worry about it melting plastics.
It is made from some flower - marigold, maybe? - and is not harmful to you once it dries, and isn't toxic when wet, just an irritant. It is made to be sprayed on clothes, tents, even mosquito netting. I've sprayed it on everything from BDUs to silk aloha shirts, and it has never stained anything. The effect lasts through a few washes on clothes, so it will probably last a long time in a truck. The stuff even works on sand fleas.

Little Off Topic: I was bit by a Black Widow on my arm while carrying a clothes hamper. Just feels like a pinch. I didn't react to it at all, just a large bump where she got me. Some people do have allergic reactions to them which can be bad.

Reminds me of all my shining moments in history, when I've encountered these little bastards. Nothing funnier then a grown man dancing and screaming like an eight year old girl when confronted by a spider. I can walk tall tonight knowing I'm in the presence of like minded individuals.

nice job on the success! I'm work for a pest control company and yeah i see all kinds of crazy stuff. It makes sleeping soundly a little hard sometimes haha.
It looks like some good advise was given, for future spider killers, Sticky traps are great for vehicles and NuVan pro stips are a nice option over moth balls. nobody likes the smell of those things.

I recently purchased a set of lx450 wheels, and in my excitement I just threw them in the back and took off... well, when I got home to pull them out I noticed 3 baby spiders running away... which means, there are more hiding in my vehicle waiting to grow big enough to bite me. :spider:
Also, as a fellow socaler.. socalier... southern californian? If you ever go to afton canyon, dont walk around in sandals at night... or if you want to live in ignorance, dont shine your flashlight on the ground!

I spent two years in the Amazon where those Brazilian Wanderers come from. We had small light bulbs installed and on 24/7 in our closets about 18" off the ground to keep the little buggers out of our shoes. Every time you got in the shower you had to bash the shower curtain around first because they liked to hang out in the dark, damp folds and then bite you on the ass when you got in the shower.
After the jungle, US bugs really don't bother me. I really liked the flying beetles the size of golf balls with one inch pincer jaws. I used to stand on my balcony at night drinking beer and hit them with a tennis racket as they came flying by. Good times in the jungle--not much else to do.

This thread cracked me up.. I have rain guards and usually leave my windows cracked in the summer. Reminded me of one time I got off work and was heading home down the interstate with them still cracked and in flies a frikkin spider on it's web right in front of my face. I'm pretty sure I screamed like a girl and bout shit my pants. I hate spiders with a passion.

Thanks for the suggestion! I can see myself using this for more than just spider proofing the 4runner, so I ordered a bottle of it. And lmao at the bolded part.

Yep, sun "spiders"... I hate them more than most spiders. Ugly mofo's!
:wow: I have rain guards. I would've thought I was safe with the windows cracked, especially on the interstate. Thanks for proving I'm never safe in my 4runner. I need to get a full chem suit to wear when I drive mine now.
I'm not a fan of spiders that are on me or coming at me, so I get that.
I DO, however, know someone who will freak out and scream and dance whenever they see one near them...my 8 year old son.
Smart kid, he learned to fear them at an even younger age than me. I was still in denial at that age--I didn't think they were so bad. I've even seen pictures of me holding a tarantula when I was young. Oh, how naive I was!
Oh, and I went out and checked the 4runner for any new spider webs today, and it is still web free, so I think I'm in the clear!
