J Hoss' "Zeus" build thread.

What's the Heart of Texas discount? Think I'm eligible as I'm a Texas resident but live out of state currently (military)? I'm looking at the Boss lift and any discount can help.

And GREAT build so far! Looking forward to seeing all you end up doing to your new Zeus.
It's a local Austin based off-road club that sponsors a few events every year. Not sure what the discount is.... I think you just show up at an event to become an official member. You can join the group on facebook... I doubt it is a big discount... guessing ~5-10%

balistikboy I don't know what HT's % off is, but Britt explained. When I bought the toytec kit for my 13 they had a percentage and free shipping promo, also got off 20% my sliders which neither are running the same sale now. :ohwell: [In 'Never pay full price news' , I'm definitely going to jump on this LR UCA sale <see wheeler's off road forum> ]

...I expect insurance will reimburse me (at least a portion of, but I will be arguing to have replaced fully) my '13's suspension & sliders, so I'll just get these ordered.

Next up/Replacement Mods:
HID Lighting -- yes Im going to go the "glaring" kit route. Flamesuit, on! :target:
Yellow fogs -- plan to spray the factory lenses
Toytec BOSS Kit -- Sat right, extra clearance, still fit in the garage.
LR UCAs -- skipped out last time, only got 2 degrees of caster.
17 x 8 - Level 8 MK6s (open to considering a new wheel though)
285 Duratracs
OPOR Sliders

Ordered the Boss Kit & LR UCA's yesterday. Just discovered they make the [new] wheels I want, in the color I want as of Dec.

Next step, get another set of OPORs ordered.

Looking good man. Glad everything worked out after that horrific accident. Round two is always better anyway!

As I sit here browsing the forums at work, I *just* got the text from my GF who works from home that "A large box with Toytec on it" has arrived :D

Putting in a call for wheels & tires this week. Me thinks I'll be abandoning the popular MK6s for a new solution...gotta keep it cool & trendy :D

Then a new pair of OPORs and its trail time :lookout:

This weekend shall bring forth quite a bit of awesome all at once.

Boss Kit & New Wheels are here. 285 DTs are next on the menu, then a new set of OPORs.

Garage time! Emblems first, bumpers next!

How did the rear Runner emblem turn out? It looks like you only tapped around the area of the letters, did you have a line where the Plasti Dip and the stock black housing meet? I was thinking I would have to Plasti Dip the whole thing and just tape off the truck were it meets the actual truck paint. Thanks for any input...

Ask and ye shall receive. shaneotool iphone pics for now hoping for a Marfa/Big Bend trip to get some DSLR shots early February!

Boss Kit, LR UCAs, 285 Duras (rubbing at full lock moving slow, turning left on the drivers and the passenger turning right) hoping alignment will fix it or I'll need a BMC.

In your second pic, it looks like there is a massive amount of rake, then in the pics with the Level 8's, it looks much, much better. Is this solely due to the angle of the photo/road?

Looks great BTW!

Man, be careful! Don't let all those Austin hippies/yuppies/hipsters or whatever they are that close to your 4Runner!

Definitely more rake than my 2013 had, but nothing a crank of the coilovers wont fix :)

Rear turned out great, noticed a liiitle bit of bubbling on the "R" in runner, so if it chips Ill just redo it; Thats the beauty of plastidip. I just taped a rectangle around the letters and peeled off the excess perfectly around the letters(and number) with a toothpick.

Are you trying to copy me.

Not at all, tis why I went to a '15 on Gunmetal Type X's...I've yet to see this combo and the MK6s I had have already taken off in popularity. The trend is up for grabs. :)

So you reckon they were set at 2.5" and the rears 2"? Just trying to dial in my eventual look, and I thought your previous 4runner looked perfect. Not that this one doesn't look great, I just noticed more rake in the pic with the stock wheels.

I'm just messing with you. My wheels are actually bronze... so they look completely different in person.

I think a few of us might be going out to HF for some moderate wheeling on Saturday, if you are up for that.

likely...the last set was definitely more level. I haven't taken after measurements in my haste to just hop up & in, then drive off. Ill try and get to that tonight. :D

Actually planning a getaway weekend to Marfa with the GF the weekend of Feb 6. If I can shoot down to Big Bend, that'll likely be the first dirt Zeus sees :)

First dirt, check. Bought on Dec 27th and already have 4500+miles. :driving:

My homage to @jblickphoto

Mod updates: Sliders On, Coilover Rake tba[adjusted], 5500K Morimoto Elite HID kit, Yellow Lamin-X fogs, Coleman Quickbed SUV mattress.
