I just installed the Rockford Fosgate P3SD2 8" on Saturday. It sounds a little...off. Almost like it's overpowered in parts and underpowered in others, not as balanced as the stock sub. It could be because I haven't put the big plastic interior trim back on the side yet?

I guess I shouldn't have expected a huge change since it's still using the same amount of power via the stock amp but people made it sound like it would be better. I'm not sold yet. Would stuffing the area behind the sub with insulation help at all?

My guess is the sub is a different ohm load than what the stock amp is putting out. A lot of people aren't happy replacing the stock sub when using the stock amp. That would be my best guess
 
I don't think that's it, from what I've found they match. I am curious if it could be something to do with the volume of the box. Anybody know what size the stock box is? I read somewhere it's .6^3 or .216 cubic feet. Rockford says the recommended sealed enclosure size should be .25 cubic feet. Not sure if that's enough to make a difference.
 
is the kicker the best one to replace keeping stock amp? I don't want a ton of bass, just want to replace my failed subwoofer with the least amount of work. Unless there's a proven amp/sub combo that will fit in the factory locations. I really don't want to mount an amp anywhere else. Want it as close to factory as possible

The Rockford Fosgate P3SD2 8" is about the best swap for the OEM sub. It's a direct match Ohm/spec wise. Use the factory holes that line up and drill one new one. Easy. Mine sounds great now!!
 
I've just installed this Kenwood.
Just drops right in. Plug 'n' play.
No modification of any kind. Rubber surround and fibre cone.
Sounds great and hits pretty good for an 8"

Looks like you replaced your amp, how did that go?

Did you do it for the sound quality or because your sub was blown? How does it sound compared to the JBL system? I assume is sounds better but how much? Do you notice the center channel missing?

I am obviously debating this mod. My main reason is to get rid of the Metra TYTO.

My sub as well as all the speakers are fine.
I'm like my audio and the factory system, well, sucks. Crossover point on the sub is way too high and very muddy. For an oem system of the time, I suppose it was okay.

I have much more control now. Crossover points as well as slope.
Parametric eq, time delay, HD & Satellite radio. Night & day.

The center channel speaker never made sense as your sitting off axis anyway. Time alignment fixes that part so it's actually better than before.

The factory amp just isn't enough power. Not because you can't turn it up, but there just isn't enough umph. No headroom.

Are you saying there's a way to turn up the stock amp? Or are you just referencing turning up the volume on the head unit?

Did you have to do alot of wiring changes to install the aftermarket amp? I'm all for improving on the system and your install looks really clean. I'd just want it to be totally OEM like and clean install you know. I've never done audio stuff, but I'm willing to learn.

I ran all new speaker wires to the doors. My choice. You can utilize the existing wire if you wish.
My install is totally stealth. The only thing you will see is the different screen in the dash.
Everything else is behind the normal panels.
 
I stuffed the stock sub box with about 90 grams of polyfill and the Rockford Fosgate sub sounds much better. Still running on stock amp.

Absolutely. I put in some dynamat and a bunch of dacron as well to dampen the box beforehand.
