Kurtis T4R Build Thread

Ohhhh okay, gotcha yeah how was the setup of everything? Any snags or did everything go together pretty smooth?

It was pretty straight forward. I've put together other double beadlocks that you just have to wrestle with and are much more difficult. Not bad at all.

I'll give +1 rep point to who ever can tell me what this and why I am so absolutely nail spitting pissed off about it.

Looks like you zip tied a condom to the breather plug, because safe sex is important, even for automotive parts.

I was testing my ARB today and noticed the compressor was kicking on every 6 or 7 seconds with the ARB locked. I started looking for leaks the good ol' fashion way by using soapy water in a spray gun... Nothing. Not even a buble. So I stopped and listened. I could hear air leaking in the diff. I pulled the plug and sure as shit the air leak is inside the diff. I put a condom on the diff breather to verify that the noise air leak was inside the diff. The condom blew up and now I am pissed. Called ECGS and left a message. Probably won't hear back until Monday. Anyway I look at it a leaking ARB is not good news.

Ah, now it's all making sense. I was wondering why your diff would be venting that much air. That sucks man. But I do want to say, the new wheels look great all mounted up :thumb:

That's a lot to try to figure out for only +1 rep point

The wheels/tires look sick!

Thanks for all the complements guys. Lets me know I am doing something right.

I've been working on my clearance issues. I got the front done. Starting the rear this morning.

Before:

After:

I had to tub into the floorboard of the truck. Shouldn't have any clearance issues after this.

Welds looks like ass because my welder has a minimum and maximum setting and the minimum is still too much. It's a cheapo but I will be getting a new one as some point in the future.

More today. Got the rear clearance issues fixed. It took forever. Trimmed the rear and welded the 2 panels together so debris and snow doesn't get stuffed in there.

Before:

After:

To keep corrosion at bay I used a Rubberized Coating Spray. Looks like un-wiped ass but the flares will cover it up anyway.

Limited flares:

Well, I don't have a square drill bit so a drill and file will have to do. Lots of "TLAR" (That Looks About Right) method here.

Driver's door and both front fenders and prepped for install. I painted the flares with Duplicolor Bedliner. I'll be able to finish the flares early this week pending what ECGS says tomorrow.

Here is how she sits.

Badass!!!
Will be watching and waiting for your review of wheel/tire combo :snacker:
Sorry if I missed it, but any idea what the weight of the wheel is?
Thanks. Great work as always!

I didn't weight the wheels but the specs online say 60lbs. The tire and the wheel is quite the heavy package. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted about the wheels and tires.

Thanks for the info on the RCVs. Much appreciated! Now that you have hopefully hammered out all the kinks, I will be getting a pair at some point.

Update:

The tech at ECGS said they pressure test each diff before they ship them. Either way air leak is inside the diff. He recommended to "turn the pinion and hopefully it will seat the parts." I personally find this total BS but, I am going to entertain the idea for now. I still haven't done the break in procedure for the new gears. Hopefully tomorrow after I get the tires balanced. Maybe if I drive it, it will stop leaking air. I am trying to be positive here because I've only heard good things about ECGS. This just frustrates me. Any way flares are almost done. No pics tonight.

I saw your issue with the leaking ECGS diff, and got a little concerned about if I would have the same problem. Well, I got my air supply and lockers all connected this past weekend. Then I held my breath and tested them. No leaks - Whew!

Just thought I'd share my experience. Hope you get it all sorted out with minimal effort/frustration.

I appreciate the info. I know ECGS has a great reputation and I am not trying to smudge it by any means. I don't think I am that "bad customer." I am just upset that if it doesn't fix it's self that means I have to tear out the front diff again and there a number of things I find more enjoyment in than that.

I got most of the truck buttoned up today. I got the wheels/tires balanced. The most took 10oz and the least took 4oz. For now I painted my rear bumper with bedliner until I can build a bumper. It would have been awful as the only chrome item on the truck. I was able to get the truck on the road today and start the break in procedure for the gears. I got a few pics for you guys.

I've heard that Rockers are a lot quieter than most people think but I was still shocked. Don't get me wrong, they are a mud terrain style tire so there is noise but certainly not what I thought they would be.

I did notice a wobble in the steering from 35-50MPH-ish. According to the shop the wheels/tires spin fine. It's not an insane bias ply death wobble but it is enough to annoy me. Realistically, I have no experience with double beadlocks or Rockers driven on the road so I am not sure what to expect. If this is just as good as it gets then I'll deal with it and drive accordingly.

I always tell Jon how badass his tires look while driving when I'm following him. Those Pitbulls look sick when they're rolling, crazy tread pattern. They look mean as all hell.
