Lift and Tire Central (pics)... Post 'em Up!

I should name this truck "New To Me" because that's where all the parts came from. I got a set of Tacoma TRD "new take off" parts and that's the shocks and front springs. Thanks to a wheeling buddy I got some 3rd hand FJ springs and added the Firestone airbags in the rear to balance the ride when loaded or pulling my trailer. Lastly....some SR5 Snowflake wheels from the local dealership (for just a little more than the normal price of 1 wheel) and a set of 5 255/75R17 from a new Jeep. Not bad.....for under $1K I got a little lift, new wheels and tires all around. No fender liner moving or bumper trimming yet but I'm sure it's needed.

I went the same route with my build, following your new-to-me concept. Some guys got the cash to do it all new, but at the end of the day you're out there for cheaper. I respect that. :guitar2:

I bit the bullet and ordered the RC 6" lift for the FJ, some Dirt King boxed UCAs, and some NFAB nerf bars. Some background...the before shot is with 5100s at 2.5, FJ springs, and a rear daystar 1.5" spacer for an extra 3" and it's sitting on the same 285/70/17 BFG KO2s and MB Wheels.

Post 6" kit install, I had to bring the front 5100's down to the second to lowest setting (.85?) to get the CV and steering angles even close to ok. It's 4WD and I intended to keep using it, so that's an important part of my changing the settings on the 5100s.

I also had to remove the rear daystar spacers as they would no longer fit around or seat the new RC springs that came with the kit. It's got a bit of a bro lift currently, though I think the front will settle because the 5100s and FJ coils that are there are older than this new kit. At any rate, I'll have to find a spacer kit for the rear that will fit if the bro lift doesn't settle to my liking.

Looks good! How's the ride and how are those CV's holding up at that angle? Any signs of binding?

So far so good. No binding. It's also settled some since I've driven a hundred miles or so and the angles are pretty close to where they were when I first did the 5100/FJ spring combo. The driver side lean is much more pronounced now and the handling is definitely bouncier out back. I'll have to think about whether I should make the effort to throw a spacer in there or not to fix the lean. Icon makes a set of 7" lift coilovers that work with this setup and I plan on getting those and taking the strut brackets out. I'll probably end up with Icons to match in the rear as well because the RC setup is great for the height but definitely not as plush as the blisteins and nowhere close to Icons.

Oh yeah, anybody want to help the Icons at all 4 fund? :help:

Had to do a good amount of trimming to front bumper and pushed my fender liners in. Mud flaps have to be trimmed or removed too. And I have a body lift...

Are the spidertrax spacers necessary for clearance if I only do a 2/1 lift maybe go to 275/70 tire? Second do the spacers also give the truck a better stance and apperance?

Add 5 to the middle number for 16" wheels, subtract 5 for 18" wheels (265/75R16=265/70R17=265/65R18)

The above assumes you're using stock wheels and no wheel spacers. Aftermarket wheels or wheel spacers will increase rubbing, more trimming will need to be done in order to fit the listed size.

Do I love it? Yes. with the V8, turning 35's isn't an issue. I LOVE these tires.

The 265 tire works fine for me. Sits flush and required fender liner be moved. No need for body mount chop. Got rid of the black dipped beadlocks up front.

Alright guys, just bought a new rig yesterday in Cali. 2005 V8 4WD Limited 90k miles. It's stock besides bilstein 5100 all around (set to 0) currently running 265/65/R17. I'm hoping to get a 33" tire on there with some TRD 17's. Here's my question... Can I adjust the 5100's to (2.5 F 1.5 R), get 33's on, and do this with stock springs and UCA's?

New to me 05 Limited 4x4 V8 with 175k. Just installed 5100's at 2.5" front with Daystar 1.5 in back. Rides amazing. Tires are BFG KO2's 34x10.50-17's. No wheel spacers, zero rubbing, zero trimming. I'm very pleased with it so far.

Nice runner! I just picked up a new to me yesterday. Do you have airbags in the back? Wondering why couldn't you just adjust your 5100s in the rear?

The fronts are only adjustable. The rears do not adjust and do not provide any lift. You would either need a spacer for the rear or new coils back there.
