Limited Edition Mod Thread

Looks awesome. Did you relocate the parking sensors ? If so, can you post a picture of them.

Thanks

I placed my proximity sensors just below the fogs.

I’m in the process of doing the same bumper conversation. Most of the parts I got used as well. But there is this one item I’m not sure if I need to order. It looks like a skid plate ? But I’m planning to use the TRD Pro skid plate, so do I need this ? It’s #14.

Thanks [emoji2957]

Hoping the attached PDF will help you and others.

I reached out to [MENTION=273299]dktxt4r[/MENTION] a while back when I started to investigate doing this swap.

I will say...for those that got a bumper from someone, there are some parts that are typically on the front bumper clip (like the fog light bezels). I did not go this route and purchased all the pieces separately. I tried finding a silver bumper on eBay or a salvage site...just couldn't seem to find one. The most expensive piece in this swap for me was the paint on the bumper (then the bumper was the next costly piece). I did purchase quite a few pieces on eBay to save a few bucks and then did simple searches for the OEM part number for others. My local dealership I used for the large bumper clip due to shipping. They matched Sparks parts price (not including tax).

This is the truck I always wanted. TRD-pro pieces with full time 4X4 with a little more pep under the hood. Plus the nice touches the LE has compared to the other trims. I'm not going to do the rear bumper swap (my friends are telling me..."You need to do it"). My wife's 4th gen 2003 Limited V8 was my target. That was a bad a$$ machine. This one is close...well as close as I'm will to get it too.

Hope the pdf helps. PM me if you have any questions. The swap is still fresh in my memory (I'm old...so this won't last long) and it's not that difficult. Take some time...purchase the parts over a long period of time (helps to hide purchases from boss...I am 100% fine with that. She's that good).

The end result IMO is much better than the stock LE. I get quite a few double takes from Tacoma and T4R drivers. It's nice when someone you don't know gives you a thumbs up. That's not why I did the swap....by any means. I do the same when I see a Taco or T4R that has some tasteful mods as well.

I was thinking the same. I’ll place the sensor directly under the fog lights in that middle section like yours.

Did you do the rear 4 as well ?
only place the sensors under the fogs if you are sure tgat you wull not be making high clearence bumper cuts, or you may need to buy a new bumper.

Yes I’ve been searching for all my parts for the last 6mo. I got most of the parts from Craigslist and this forum. I have many items in my garage and my friends think I’m crazy for the conversion. But just like you I wanted a full time 4x4 but with real leather, push start, keyless entry, dual climate, heated and cooled seats.

But I also wanted the styling of the TRD Pro. This conversion is the only way to have al the creature features [emoji2957]. I also picked up TRD wheels, skid plate and shifter during the Toyota 40yr Anniversary 40% off sale. I also found low mileage TRD Pro Bilstein suspension, predator sides and TRD pro roof rack [emoji3061]

I plan to do the bumpers/rockers first the lift/tires.

If I do the cut, I’ll either relocate or just remove completely.

If you use something like the SSO bumper with Stage 2 high clearance, d placement of the sensors looks halfway through the cut line, so you'll end up with an exposed Crescent cut in the end
Better to plan ahead and pick a location away from the high clearance cut area so you can maintain the sensors if you go with a more extreme route

I haven't swapped my rear bumper yet but have a steel rear on order so the sensors will have to go.

Keep in mind that for the front bumper sensors, the limited bumper has an upward angle so the plastic ring around the sensor has a thicker rim on top to point the sensor out straight. The offroad/pro front bumper has a downward angle in the area where I placed my sensors so the ring had to be place upside down to angle the sensors straight. And also, the sensor hole cut is not a circular cut. I just traced the sensor hole on the limited bumper with cardboard and flipped the template, traced it on the new bumper, cut the outline, and installed the sensors.

I've done a lot more to my t4r since this mod. Here it is as it currently stands.

Great info here. Thanks [emoji3]

are these for the rears or fronts?

thanks :)

Fronts... Specifically for the Trail aka really small Rocker covers.

Hi can you send larger pic of your nightshade. i want to add after market
running boards/nerf bars to my nightshade.

want to see how they look but cant zoom in on your pic.

did you install without having to change/remove rocker pannels ?

cheers
raj

You have to change or remove the rocker covers.

Man! I’ve missed this forum, haven’t been active in over a year (been prepping for our first kid). I’ve done a bit to mine since I’ve last been on here. Next is new tires, current ones at the end of their life, can’t make up my mind on which ones I want. And then a full suspension rebuild since the XREAS with spacers have finally finished their life together.

Just wanted to thank everyone on here for the write ups and endless information.
So far the wife's limited has a daystar 2.5 front 1 rear easiest way with xreas. She likes the look of "chunky tires" so went with 275/60R20 Nitto ridge grapplers also added spidertrax 1.25. The truck should have came this way it looks a million times better. Pushing the fender liner in did the trick no rubbing. Also did led interior lights and 5% tint all around.

Again thanks for all the great info it really made this hassle free. Did the work in the driveway minus mount/balance and alignment.

hows the ride quality with spacers?

Honestly I can't feel a difference. I did the lift first then tires and alignment. Due to the spacers being late on delivery. Only difference is where the tires rubbed the fender liner that being a simple fix. My wife and I both love the look and stance now.

I just completed this front bumper swap yesterday.

A few notes I did not see when researching

1. 7/8” drill bit needed for installing parking sensors
2. There is a vertical plastic piece on either side of the radiator and the passenger side needs to be trimmed. Probably could order the correct part but I just cut mine with a pocket knife.
3. Most importantly, buy about 20 fender liner clips. Not sure of the part number but they have a square post and a dime sized head with a hole in it. You’ll have to cut the old ones out when removing the limited fender liner.

If I had these notes it would have shaved about 2 hours off the install time.

my front/rear trd bumpers are at the shop today.. getting painted :) i'll give the 7/8" a try. are planning to do the rear sensors? if so, looks like we need to extend the two middles sensors and paint them black then install on the valance. as for the 20 fender clips, i was able to remove all of them without damage.
