Long granny 1-2 shift, wut's up with that?

All other shifts are as crisp as I would expect from a stock valve body but the 1-2 shift is a killer. Feel like I'm driving my Dad's Cadillac! Is this a common problem with these transmissions? Does it under normal and WOT. Seems like the valve body could use some attention. I can't find any shift kit's for this trans. Any known fixes or good kits? Fluid is less than 6mo old along with filter. I know my way around a trans so please, don't spare the technical jargon/assistance. Thanks

this is probably no help... but my T4R does this before warming up and only 1-2 shift. does the "delayed" shift happen once up to temp?

Are you referring to the 1-2 shift in 4low?

It gets worse as temp rises (slow trail riding with a lot of 1-2 shifts). And all the shifts in low are great, slam you back in the seat! I'm just worried that during the 1-2 shift in 2hi I'm eating up what I may have left of clutch material. No idea of if or when it's been rebuilt with 340K mi. I've built a few Ford tranys and always built a stiff valve body with a high stall converter. I'm not looking for fast track times here just strong reliability.
