Magnuson SC Kit Idles Like Garbage - HELP!

So when I emailed Magnuson and show them a video of what happened. They shipped out a new tensioner assembly ( Dayco) brand also. They shipped it and received within one day! That was impressive !
The new one I got look the same as the one I had with the kit. So I swapped out and so far it’s good, but let’s wait for a few more days until I say it’s totally fixed. I had my SC installed about a few weeks ago. So on the second week that’s when I notice the noise and belt tensioner won’t stay tensioned. Pictures are the new ones I got from Magnuson. Didn’t take a pic of the old one because it’s the same everything.

Did anyone else had a hard time putting the belt on though ??? I think the belt itself is a bit short and it causing the tensioner to go bad. It doesn’t have enough slack Maybe ?

You know it could be. I just coming from my Cat pulley setup and it tide , but not that tide as it was installed, like a Magnuson, but it stays the same for ~ 600K miles. Maybe belt and tensioner on Magnuson setup is wrong size.

The first time I installed the SC and the belt , I had to have help from a buddy to really get the belt over the pulley.
After replace the tensioner , the belt probably has stretched a bit. It was tight but not as bad as the first time installed.

Mine sounds like it’s about to blow up now. I contacted Magnuson and let’s hope they send me an updated tensioner soon.

So after the third day. I hear another noise, sounds like a light tapping. I can’t pin point what it is right now. I guess I’ll have to wait till it gets a bit louder. *

I responded to another thread but I had the same issue. Received a new tensioner and the rattle is gone. The new one is completely different. No black cover anymore. Here is the new one and the box it came in. Several people have noticed that the pulley and other parts look completely different than the dayco part number so I'm not sure if magnuson changes some of the components before shipping it.

Can you please give us update on the new tensioner you received from Magnuson. How does it perform? How many miles did you drive with new one? And how hard was put the belt on? Is it as good as was just installed after certain amount of miles? Thanks

Yeah no problem, I have put about 1000 miles on it since the install. Install was a piece of cake. Uninstall belt with 1/2" breaker bar on the tensioner. I decided to keep the belt since it looked fine but it wouldn't be hard to install a new one if yours does not look good. I believe the socket for the bolt holding the tensioner is 12mm. Remove that and the tensioner. Put new one in and apply blue loctite to the new one and torque to 18ft lbs. Re route the belt and use breaker bar again. Done.

No more noises or vibrations. It seems to have solved the issue.

Okay. The reason I asked you this, that there’s no Dayco tensioner that looks like yours. But I found another manufacturer that makes tensioners just like your. If you can look at it and tell me what you think? Thanks

Look up 4861277AD, it’s a Mopar part number, from a 2.4L Jeep Wrangler. This part also matches the Dayco part that comes with the kit. Might be something worth looking into.
