Magnuson Supercharger for 2010-Present & 2010-2014 FJ

I don't and nobody else on this forum know what Mag is making off each sc, but part of what I'm saying is the lower the price point can be, I believe the number of customers would grow exponentially. Like I said in one of my previous posts, Would you rather make $2000 off of 2000 people or $1000 off of 6000 people?, simple economics, and make a product that has the potential to become more mainstream, admittedly it will never be totally mainstream, making more people happier with their 4runners. The more they sell, things like R&D cost per unit goes down. Manufacturing costs go down and etc. as well.

Put the SC topic aside for a second.. Your gross over simplification is just not how markets, pricing, or economics works. You have to dig way deeper and us trying to speculate on the total cost structure is ridiculous. All we know is what the comparable products are and what they sell for. With that in consideration.. this kit is right in line with the current market. That does no mean it is a great value.. it just means it is not outside of the norm for this type of specialized product. Neither this forum nor this thread will have any impact on the market price. Long term... it may come down or go up depending on many factors.

There's two schools of thought here - One group excited to see a supercharger and will do anything and pay anything to get it and one much bigger group that thinks it costs too much for what they get.

Yep,
I think the two groups are:

1. The ones who may actually buy a supercharger for their 5th gen and install it. (not at any cost, but at a reasonable price..)
within that group there are some 1(a) that would be willing to participate in a pilot and some 1(b) that would not

2. Those that won't ever install one at the current price point.

Some people in group 2 may move over to group 1 as time goes on.

Pretty simple. You would think group 2 would not spend all their time cluttering up the thread stating why they are in group 2 and trying to paint a picture of doom and bad choices for those in group 1. If I was in group 2... I would probably find other topics to focus on or at least ask questions to address my concerns.

I responded to a a few posts here.. but only when I felt there was misinformation, misdirection, or just lack of education on what it is/is not.

I think it is a bad choice for some people.. and maybe a good choice for others. Clearly pros and cons and risks....like everything.

Wait, people were expecting them to be cheaper than 5k? The other Magnuson kits costs 5k. $5500 is a fair price IMO.

Superchargers don't follow the normal market trend because they are a niche product. Lowering the price 1k or more won't net any additional sales. The people that want them will buy them regardless of cost.

Great. TVS is a much improved design. Wonder if it is a R or V series pack...

For those interested in the tech bits... Here is the Isentropic Efficiency maps for the two different TVS rotor packs.

Looks like the V series would be a bit more efficient for this application. I think we would mainly be in the 1.4 pressure ratio and max flow around 400 kg/hr.. Pressure ratio is map in bar... pretty sure 1.4 pressure ratio = ~6psi at sea level...

From Eaton...
R-Series
4 Lobes
High pressure ratio capability of 2.5
Highest efficiency at higher pressure and high speed
Aimed for single boosting device where a lot of flow is needed

V-Series
3 Lobes
High pressure ratio capability of 2.5
Highest efficiency at low pressure and low speed
Aimed for single boosted engines with low end torque need and twin boosted systems to power the low engine speed map
In moron mode which is the way i will understand it. R series =sports car, V = truck or offroad?

No they're not generally upset at the cost. They're upset because magnusson wants us to think that their pilot program discount isn't crappy. Full stop.

If the MSRP is really $5.5k it's a relatively decent deal considering what other much higher volume (sales) SCs cost. My main issue is that Magnusson appears to be disguising a marketing ploy as a verification program.

I consider myself a potential buyer, I could definitely use the extra tq while towing.

...and I'm not in for working out the finishing details and a $500 discount. If I had more time I'd do it but I don't! Wish I did though

This!! Not sure what people were expecting to pay pilot or no pilot program. It's not like this is their first rodeo. People here are treating the 4Runner like it's some one off vehicle with alien tech that deserves more R&D than a standard vehicle...and its owners thereby deserving a bigger discount for being first in line to get one. If $500 is a make or break for you then by all means don't do it. Spend that 5-7k on tires, making sure tires don't rub, making sure you can still climb hills with said tires, *****ing about your loss of MPG with said tires, etc etc etc.

:cry2:

Yep. I'm in for $5500. It's about what I expected a SC to cost.

Everyone in this thread needs to shut up, back off and relax, or it will be locked just like all the rest of the supercharger threads.

Seriously, every single one of you have expressed your opinion multiple times. I have had to caution one guy and just give an infraction to another. That's not counting having to delete a couple of posts. Try to take a few minutes and think outside the box and look at it from a different viewpoint. Both sides of this have pros and cons.

So, if you want this thread to remain open, cool the comments and wait until some actual NEWS comes out. Otherwise, I'll shut it down. This is worse than politics or religion.

Looking to me like some of you either didn't read, or choose to ignore Mr. -mod- Bad idea IMO

Beta testing. Too many strings attached. This isn't a pilot run where they only test their manufacturing/ building. This is a pilot run for end-users to test their product to make sure it functions.

We're finally ready to take in applications for those who own 2010-Present Toyota 4Runners or 2010-2014 Toyota FJ Cruisers who are interested in being part of our pilot build program. Here's how it works:

-First, if you are on Facebook and/or Instagram, please make sure you are following us.
-Apply using the "APPLY NOW" button below. Review of the applications will take approximately 2 weeks depending on how many we get (which will be a lot). Please do not contact us at all about the application selection until we contact you.
-If selected you will receive an email from us sometime Sep 11-15th 2017. If you do not hear from us, please wait till the production kits are available for the masses.
-When selected you must be ready to purchase the blower at the discounted rate we are providing it for ($5000+shipping). We will have you call in to place your order. You will also be signing a pilot build/sponsorship agreement.
-Once you receive your supercharger kit, the FIRST thing you will need to do to help facilitate a quicker install is remove your ECU and mail it to us so that we can load in the calibration for the kit. The quicker you send it, the quicker we can get it back. You can even do this the moment you've paid for the kit instead of waiting till you receive it at your door.
-You or a local shop will install your kit and document any difficulties or suggestions you might have with the installation process and provide that written feedback to us. No whining, just professional feedback. Please do not custom calibrate or tune your vehicle on a dyno until after the pilot build phase is complete.
-Once the kit is installed and your newly programmed ECU is back in, please daily drive the vehicle, perform recreational activities with it if possible, and just flat out HAVE FUN with it. Photo/Video document your happiness with your new-found horsepower and torque and Photo/Video document any issues you might have with the kit after installation and use and provide back to us for review and support. If you need to bring the vehicle to us to have something looked at or checked, please do.
-If there are any issues with the vehicle due to the recently installed supercharger kit, please be ready for us to have your vehicle for as much time as needed to fix the issue to determine where the issue occurred and how to move forward with it. Please have another daily driver ready to go, we will not be covering rental car expenses.
-Once the pilot build testing phase is complete, please continue to enjoy your kit and show the world what they will be looking forward to expecting when the rest of the production units come to market this year!

They just dropped this video on FB. Looks like the kits are ready to go and they are deciding who the "lucky" first 10 are...

Sorry for my comments earlier, I'm going to get better at ignoring nonsense.

Very interested in the end result from the beta testing. Wished Magnuson was able work with Toyota so that we were able keep our warranties. Good luck to the 10 4runner/FJ owners willing to give their vehicles for testing.

Magnuson- Hopefully we can gain 50-60 horsepower from the kit. This will definitely wake up the 4runner for daily or off road use.

I did sign my application/request, while I doubt I will be chosen, I am curious to know how many peeps signed up around the country.

I hope that this whole process can wake the sleeping puppy under our hoods wither its Magnuson or another company who piggy backs off their work.

This is going to be super interesting. I wonder if we should create a URD thread so that we can concentrate the info for each kit in its own spot.

I don't understand why they would ever post this picture. its IS scary looking probably to most.
