Magnuson Supercharger for 2010-Present & 2010-2014 FJ

Anyway you could send a pic of the paper copy? He's just being cautious and has done a few Magnuson charger installs at his Audi/VW shop, but this would be his first Toyota.

Sorry man. The thing is 40+ pages. The only way I could do it would be to xerox the whole thing and that would take forever. Trust me. You will be fine. Feel free to have the installer DM me with any specific concerns. Or give him your paper copy a week before he slaps it on the truck.

Can’t your guy just reach out to Magnuson? Seems like there should be a relationship there between his shop and Magnuson that would allow for at least a conversation or sharing the document directly. Maybe I’m being paranoid but it seems weird your installer would lean on you to get the information they’re asking for, rather than just pick up the phone and call Magnuson.

I only say that because my installer is in the same boat with my truck being their first Toyota install. But when he ran into questions he just reached out to Magnuson and got his questions answered.

He just wants me to do some of the leg work.. I understand and it's a busy shop so
working on the Toyota is just new for them. It's all good and should be a fun time.

3) if you have a bracket behind the fusebox on the drivers side you need a custom bracket to mount the coolant reservoir.

Anyone have a picture of where they relocated reservoir to? Or will it fit in the same area with custom bracket?

The install is brain dead easy for a professional shop. It takes a little time, but there is nothing complex at all. It's very well thought out.. and the instructions should now be very good.

Somewhere in this thread I have some pictures of the coolant res location and the clearance... It should be pretty easy to locate it somewhere else... if need be. Just make sure gravity is taken into account....

just spent last 20 minutes reading this thread. pretty interesting and sounds like a decent kit. But in all 13 pages there's not one side by side before and after dyno sheet posted. What gives?

I would think Magnason wouldn't mind sending out install instructions,
If they want to sell the SCs.

There were some before and after... A couple of things though. The dyno graphs are sort of useless on these trucks. You can't get it to hold a gear so you can't get any data below 3800 or so... all you can really get is peak numbers in those higher RPMs and those only tell a small portion of why someone would want it.

Nobody has ever pulled one and put it on an engine dyno.

In general. you get about + 80-100 fly wheel hp/tq with the kit.

There are still some tuning things holding it back in terms of overall drivability on the pilot version I currently have. I should have an update sometime soon. But I doubt I will ever put it on a dyno outside of getting a custom tune. If the update is good enough, I won't bother with that.

I have question about the tune. Forgive me if it’s already been answered but I thought the Toyota code was all locked up? With this kit, if I understand correctly you send your ECU in to Magnuson?

They have the keys to it... and so do a few other tuning shops as of late.

With the released kit they send you a handheld programmer that will load their calibration in via the diagnostic port. After that, you can't let the dealer update it....

The pilot users had to remove and send in the ECU, but that was just during the pilot.

When I spoke with Tim at Magnuson, this was my biggest concern, knowing that it’s entirely possible I’d forget to tell my service advisor that i have a tune, or that even if i remembered to tell him not to reset the ECU they might accidentally do it anyway. Tim explained that if Toyota service updated the ECU for whatever reason, the programmer could be used to re-flash the ECU and reload the proper tune...is that consistent with your understanding?

If that’s true, then although the dealer shouldn’t update the ECU, in the event it happens it’s not the end of the world so long as you retain the programmer to re-tune the truck. Right? Just trying to be absolutely sure about this.

Just cut my relay bracket. Customized the reservoir bracket to attach to my shrockworks relay bracket. Things are tight but they work.

Before.

It wasn’t just the pilot users...[emoji23] my tuner didn’t work. Magnuson handled the overnighting and I had my ECU back in less than a week. I was impressed.

Sounds correct, but I would not worry about it... Never heard of Toyota updating the calibration on a 5th gen.

Oh.. I guess a few early adopters fell into this as well, but they have the programmers now... and that is how it should be going forward...

If it makes you feel any better, they had my ECU for about a month... It was the first early generation they had encountered.. and took a bit of time.

In the past 25 years, I have had a Toyota ECU reflashed exactly once. It wasn't easy, either. I had to bring in a copy of a TSB while under 10k miles and argue to get it done.

Toyota service departments aren't like Windows Update.

Thanks! My other daily driver is a BMW M3 and for some reason those cars get reflashed all the time during service. Glad Toyota doesn’t do the same.

Anyone who has one of these get a warranty with it? I know people feel their own particular ways about warranties on aftermarket products, but it's one differentiation between Magnuson and URD for example. It does give a consumer a sense of confidence that the manufacturer is pretty sure it won't blow up in your face. Which is nice. And if they are planning to sell to folks driving off the lot it would be helpful. Magnuson offers their powertrain warranty on some of their superchargers, but the 2010+ 4runner isn't listed as eligible. Maybe it was an oversight for this new product, but maybe it isn't offered. I haven't received a response from the company for the past couple weeks about it so thought I'd check with owners. I'll get one either way but I'm on day 5 of ownership of my 2018 TRD Pro. Hard to consider tarnishing a glistening new car warranty. But I'm dumb and like HP.
