Magnuson Supercharger for 2010-Present & 2010-2014 FJ

Anyone who has one of these get a warranty with it? I know people feel their own particular ways about warranties on aftermarket products, but it's one differentiation between Magnuson and URD for example. It does give a consumer a sense of confidence that the manufacturer is pretty sure it won't blow up in your face. Which is nice. And if they are planning to sell to folks driving off the lot it would be helpful. Magnuson offers their powertrain warranty on some of their superchargers, but the 2010+ 4runner isn't listed as eligible. Maybe it was an oversight for this new product, but maybe it isn't offered. I haven't received a response from the company for the past couple weeks about it so thought I'd check with owners. I'll get one either way but I'm on day 5 of ownership of my 2018 TRD Pro. Hard to consider tarnishing a glistening new car warranty. But I'm dumb and like HP.

I couldn’t find the link, but i believe I’ve actually seen a PDF of the warranty offered on the 5th gen supercharger. My installer referred to it when i was asking a variety of questions, including what happens if my truck blows up. I’m also driving a 2018, about 500 miles on the clock.

Hopefully someone will chime in with the link or specific information.

anyone had local Toyota dealers do the install? I got a quote from the local Mag dealer and the price seems reasonable and also have a call in to my dealer to see what their position on it is.

Received my kit yesterday!! Having a problem with getting the handheld tuner to connect to the car though. Its getting stuck on step 16. Once the correct serial protocol has been identified click “OK”.

I have contacted mag in email and call now just have to wait for a response from them.

Also noticed that the bracket for the s/c reservoir that is suppose to mount to the brake booster doesn't work for my truck. My truck is 2wd and the booster and master are different from the 4wd ones, so that bracket needs to be addressed.

Did you intall the myGenius app on your PC first and go through all the firmware updates.. You need to be on a network....

I had no issues with the programmer.


Not sure about a 2wd.. You may be the first . Should be easy to make a bracket, but hard without a truck in hand.

I did install the program on my computer and update it, but I haven't plugged the programmer to my computer yet does that need to be done prior to plugging into the car for an update also?

Yes, you need to do the firmware update. It should walk you through it after it is connected and the drivers are installed.

It says its been updated successfully. With it plugged in the download and upload buttons aren't able to be clicked on.

I think something is wrong with the handheld. I've tried installing and updating everything on another computer I have with the same results. Did this several times also.

Its quite frustrating that I can't get someone to call me from magnuson, but they only want to communicate through emails. I sent them another email with the above pics.

Yea, sounds like there is either a problem with your computer or the hand held itself. It should be able to communicate and upgrade the firmware via the last button in your pic. It gets complicated with drivers, different versions of Windows and all that going on.

I had no issues, but I know that does not help you. I would poke around in device manager and see if it shows any errors....

I think the buttons were disabled.. But I was able to connect and upgrade the firmware.

After I downloaded my file, the appropriate buttons were enabled.

It's not really a big deal to pull the ECU. The truck will be down anyway while you are doing the install. They can send you instructions on how to remove the ECU as that is what was required during the pilot. It adds a little time, but really nothing major at all and I gave them feedback on how to improve those instructions also.

I was able to talk to Dustin on the phone he's going to send a new programmer for me to try. I also mentioned the bracket and sent him some pics of it. I also noticed that the blower doesn't have a vacuum port for the brake booster, so I'll just have to run a t-fitting off an existing one.

Very cool to follow along the development of this product. Honestly, Toyota should offer this from the factory. A supercharger would go perfect with this drivetrain and there is no doubt there would be enough buyers to make it worthwhile.

There have been a few dyno graphs posted by mag. It's roughly 30-35% gain in power. But the dynos only show the higher RPMs since you can't get the trans to hold 4th below 3500....

I have not put mine on a dyno (just really don't care) but based on MAF readings.. I'm getting 383 hp at the flywheel which should be 326 RWHP with stock tires and gearing. That matches almost exactly what Mag got on their chassis dyno. They generally make 230-250 RWHP stock on the dyno.

There is another kit from URD which runs similar boost but uses a bigger Whipple 2.3L twin screw. They are claiming 130RWHP./120RWTQ gains. which is more like 50% increase in power. I don't think it is technically available yet though as the last time I checked it said they are still building parts for kits.

I'm just really enjoying the power pulling up hills now. The boost kicks in nice and low, so you don't need to rev it near as much. The kit also has a very OEM like finish.

MPG has went down, but I can't really tell for sure as I have not really taken any trips where I can keep my foot out of it. It has clearly went down, but I have not been able to run a tank without putting my foot into more...

I don't have much for videos. There is thread on my install and I have a few things there. This is pretty much the only video at the moment and it was before the final calibration. I will try to get some more when the weather clears up again.

Got everything finished. Now just gotta wait until end of the week for my ecu to get back from magnuson.
