Magnuson Supercharger for 2010-Present & 2010-2014 FJ

As far as pedal commander.. sure you could run that with no issue. It just tricks your brain and makes no real difference on actual engine performance. The MAF calibrator does change engine performance because it is one of the main inputs to the ECU for fueling calcs. The pedal commander just makes the throttle input more sensitive giving the illusion of better drivability.

you wouldn't bother buying one?

If talking about pedal commander or whatever the other one is called.

Not for myself.. but its more of a personal preference thing. Sort of like where do you like your seat positioned.

I also don't like adding 3rd party devices in the middle of things if they can be avoided. Unless, there is no other option and I really want the functionality.

Is there anyone out there doing actual dyno tuning on these 5th gen T4R's? Like, if I had a Maggie, URD y-pipe, and a water/meth tank, and I wanted the trans to shift firmer than stock, who could make that happen? Seems like Maggie mail order tune leaves A LOT to be desired in terms of the transmission tune.

Gadget of URD used to with their engine management. However don't know that they ever got into the trans. Want to say they even had a tune for the "once you TRD flash your screwed" blues but my memory is failing.

I did an IPT valve body mod on my S/C Tacoma.

You could do the same for the T4R

Super Charger!

Okay, So from what I've read on this thread Superchargers are fantastic Magnuson especially, the only thing I haven't noticed yet are much for comments on longevity, maintenance, or concerns with them putting any extra stress on the vehicles. Can anyone speak to this? :gun5:

Nobody knows for sure at least for now since they just came out. It’s like people ask how reliable the 5th Gen is. I personally haven’t seen one that has over 300K+ yet.

What's your experience with traveling down the interstate at 70-75MPH? I was curious if the SC gets rid of the constant shift from 5 to 4 and back? I have the OK from my wife to place my order so looking for more feedback.

Thanks.

Sorry for the delayed response...No difference at 70-75 mph unless you punch it.
I general, I won't see a difference unless accelerate "hard". It may just be the way I drive (like Ms Daisy). The SC is there when I need it. When I do accelerate, it is a very noticeable difference than w/o a SC.

Anyone with a SC that tows a trailer and travels? I use mine to occasionally tow a small 21ft lightweight RV when we travel and I have been thinking of adding a bit more power with a SC set up. Im deciding between that or getting the wife a used GX460 and use that when we travel. It seems if I compare HP gains with a 4runner thats SC with a GX460 bone stock that they are some what close but Im on the fence. Was hoping to see if anyone has SC theirs and done a RV road trip before and after for comparison?

*thinking* about swapping the blower over to my other 4runner.
would it be cheaper to swap or do a total engine swap?

i realize this sounds borderline stupid, but i'm curious what route would be easier and less expensive.

the donor engine has roughly 15k less miles.

i can't put my finger on it, but i just like my white one more.

Seriously swap an engine instead of removing and re installing a blower?

Was going to start the process of uploading my stock map to Magnuson for configuration, but ran into the same problem as some other people with the handheld tuner connecting to the ECU. I get to step 16 where the handheld tuner is identifying the correct serial protocol, and then nothing, it just gets stuck. I made sure to follow step by step, and was able to successfully update the handheld tuner with MyGenius client several times. Anyone know what's going on? I contacted Magnuson, just waiting to hear back from them. I'm hoping I don't need to send in the ECU and handheld tuner. This kit shows a build date of 8\8\2018
I would've hoped they had ironed out the bugs with the handheld tuner by now. This is on a 2017 SR5 Premium 4x4

Figured out the problem. Just a heads up for anyone planning on doing this kit. If you have an aftermarket alarm, or any electronic that ties into, or uses a T-harness for the OBD plug, make sure you connect the handheld tuner directly to the OEM OBD plug, and not go through the alarm. Although the alarm states that it doesn't interfere with any servicing through the OBD plug, apparently it's somehow interfering with the communication protocols that allows the handheld tuner to connect to the ECU. After I did this, I was able to connect, and download my stock file within 5 minutes

Sounds about right. Most OBD-II devices have a auto-disable or inability to write when they detect something else connected to the OBD-II port/bus. It was never designed to run multiple devices the way we've started to use it. The UCON-EMS box required for the URD SC is always on, I have to set the Kenwood/Maestro head unit to "Always On" setting as well in order to get the gauges pages to work properly.

Anyone in the LA area have a recommended shop to do the install? Im getting ready to pull the trigger on one.

If you're down to drive up to Santa Clarita (still technically LA) the shop that installed mine is great. They've done a few of them now, so they are pretty proficient at installing them.

The shop is called Big John's Performance. 661-254-1611 ask for Rob and tell him Derrick with the red 4Runner sent you (he will give better prices if you say that, because I refer a ton of people to them).

Valencia CA Tires & Auto Repair Shop | Big John's Performance

EDIT: I just saw that you are in Santa Clarita, so they would be perfect for you. They've done all the work on my truck that I haven't been able to do myself. Steve who is the guy who does the installs is great, does meticulous work.

Awesome! If you dont mind me asking, how much did they charge you for the install?

Trailering 3300 lbs

Hi, one of the main reasons I got the SC was for trailering. I have had significant improvements: better pulling, less shifting, and actually improvements in MPG. Good decision.

I'll be honest, I don't know exactly because I usually save up a bunch of stuff for them to do, then drop off the truck for a few days and let them do it all. I would call over their, ask for Rob and then ask him for a price. Since they've done it before, he should be able to give you a price.
