MillerPKA Build Thread #2

Says the guy using BMW leather.

If you want to be in the "4Runner hall of fame" you need to build a 4Runner how Toyota should have built it from the factory. With a lift, a snorkel, 35's, high quality leather interior, and a V8 engine mated to a 5 speed. In the end, a V6 is still just a V6.

Regarding the Tundra brake upgrade: You can fit both 231's and 199's on 16" wheels, it just depends on the back spacing of the wheels. 231's fit on 5 stars without modification. I don't know specifically about your wheels.

Haha touche but if Toyota made a leather like that I wouldn't have to cheat!

I have several months before pulling the trigger either way. I'm happy to discuss it here in the meantime. My biggest issues with the v8 swap is a) amount of downtime with the vehicle b) Logistics involved in getting a donor truck and or sourcing parts c) I've never done an engine swap. Could definitely learn but I take my time with EVERYTHING, so I can't imagine how long an engine would take me. I don't have a place to park a donor truck and I don't have the necessary tools for doing it at my house. Which means I would have to find someone and drive there every couple of days to put in work. Whereas with the supercharger route I can do the supercharger in my driveway. Get headers and tackle that later. Get water/meth kit and tackle that later, etc. All in small bites and all stuff I can manage.

Trevor offered his place in El Cajon to do the swap, but that's asking a lot and that means I'd have to drive 30-40 minutes each way every time I wanted to work on it. And considering his still isn't running I'm a bit more hesitant.

I'll have to do some digging then on the brake upgrade and see if anyone has done either with my wheels. I'm running 1.25" spacers in front which may or may not help, but I will be removing them after I put in new UCAs.

Coming from the BMW world in a previous car life... I definitely just wanted to throw my vote in here for the Imola red. :eyebrows: Such a sick color. I had an Arctic Silver on Black leather E36 but was very envious of them Imola interiors. :yo:

Keep up the great work. Cant wait to see the interior transformation. :D

If you don't want to drill, would a clamp something like this work? You could even wrap the bar in rubber or something to prevent scratching. Just a thought.

Thanks! The Imola is definitely sick. My buddy came by yesterday to check out the truck and has a 330 with coral interior so I sat in that again. Honestly I'd be happy with that especially being the cheaper of the two. But thankfully I'll have the swatches to compare in person today or tomorrow and see what's what.

Yeah that would but I have to take these off every time I open the hood. Having to mess with 3 alan bolts and making the hoop every time is not what I want to do. It's going to be quick release on top and bottom with a turnbuckle for tension adjustment.

But thank you for sharing this anyways because the cable is 15ft and looped at both ends, so I'll be cutting it in half which leaves each cable with one looped end and one straight end. I was in Home Depot for an hour looking for something to attach to a straight end and provide some kind of mounting and never found anything. Hopefully i can find something like that locally.

Here's another thought, what if you had the quick release attach to the clamp, not the bumper, then it would still be completely removable, but also not alter the bumper.

I think either way will work. I'm just tossing out ideas. I'm sure you'll figure something out that works well and you're happy with.

I never thought of the hood problem. That would kill the deal for me. Good thing we don't have limbs to raise in the desert.

I'll post up some pictures of my set up soon. 15 seconds of rotating a barrel and I can unhook my limb risers for hood access.

Yeah I'm in no rush so I will take everything into consideration. Look forward to seeing them!

Instead of making the limb risers easily removable to open the hood, why don't you make them so that you can open the hood with them still in place? That's what I did.

That is a very cool idea for getting it out of the way and what a good idea to use metal rods instead of rope! If I'm hesitant on adding an eye bolt because of the 3/4" hoop at the top I definitely do not want to weld on a contraption like that just to clear the hood. I really enjoyed my last setup so I don't think I need to change much, but I do need to figure something out when it comes to mounting the thicker gauge cable. I will look into the aluminum bars although I really liked the look the cable I got:

Those pictures look sick.

When is the next (dual) black 4Runner photo shoot going to happen?

If I don't head to Mammoth tomorrow I will be around all weekend. I wouldn't mind heading out somewhere with the DSLR to grab some shots with ya! No wheeling for me right now though still tying some things up under the hood.

Thanks. Yeah, I was thinking more like you could just clamp some features onto the bumper that would extend outward, that you could connect the limb risers to.

That is a nice clean looking cable with the ends looped like that. Looking forward to seeing how you complete it.

Really great truck man i just reead all the tread and loved every minutes of it .... Thank's for all those pix....:driving:...keep up the good work and pix...:nicethread:

A little progress this week. Got the front windows tinted to match. Cleaned the interior well for the first time in a while. Got the door jambs, etc. cleaned out and looking like new. Repainted the rear bumper with a fresh coat of black - trying to make due while I try and design one. Repainted the license plate surround and finally got around to debadging the Toyota logo at the bottom and painting the others graphite like the old one. Came out really well I thought.

Also took off the rear spoiler piece to paint and realized I really like the look of it without, so for now it's staying off. I had to drill some holes in the top of the ladder mount to access the spoiler mount bolts, so now I can take it on and off if I wanted. I need to find a good plug for the bolt holes though to clean it up but still think it's a lot cleaner. Thoughts?

Here's a teaser of what Scat Adams has been up to since selling his Golden Pearl 3rd gen. 2007 WRX Limited, slowly turning into an STI. We'll do a shoot together at some point.
