I wish I could but I am trying to drive my 4runner as little as possible. I'm suspecting my noise to be pinion related.
Was going to bring the family up there.

Was that the trail up the backside of Palomar from Aguanga?
It kind of feels like you're flying in an airplane when you get towards the top it's on such a steep escarpment

You got it! Yeah the way down was MUCH easier and will have to remember that route if I bring some less capable vehicles. The ride in was pretty gnarly. Truck started overheating twice but after some cool off periods in the shade she performed admirably. Although my rear locker didn't want to engage. Will have to look into that next.

Happen to stumble upon this build since learning you’re back in a 4Runner. Seeing as this build has a touch of 10yr class reunion to it too, I had to subscribe.
4Runner is coming along nicely! Really glad to see your careful approach to mods. Knowing you as I do, I’m sure you have a laundry list of mods to complete. However, I would like to suggest 2 minor aesthetic mods. Whether it’s my OCD or A-R, who knows, but I had to do these to my own truck immediately:
1.) Install some sort of rear fender liners to cover that Half Dome size gap left behind by body lifts. Nothing like bending down to inspect your wheels the next morning from a camping trip and you happen to look through the body and frame to see a deer staring back at you on the other side (made me jump, which in turn scared the doe just as bad. She took off back into the woods before I knew it). You can find photos of what I used to cover this gap in my BL write up under my Profile in my sig.
2.) Swap out your receiver hitch for either a lower profile mount or hidden hitch style mount. Granted, the BL gap doesn’t help, but those hitches are just gigantic to begin with. My 4Runner came with the same hitch as yours and I swapped it out with my wife’s then ’00 4Runner’s hitch for a much improved low pro version. Getting it tucked up close to the bumper as much as possible, also helps with clearance issues off road.

Thanks for the kinds words and I couldn't agree more on both. I need to start looking at the fender liners again soon. As for the hitch, I'm just going to deal with it for the time being as a rear bumper is in the plans. The hitch on my last build was a lot slimmer but still had the gap. I'll be happy to get the bumper installed sooner than later, but as you called it, lots of mods in the pipeline. Just figuring out in what order I tackle them.

IKR. Those were good times...for me anyway. Drove my wife nuts.
I need to find a pair of 3.5" lights in a driving beam pattern. I have 3.5" fogs in my bumper now, but I want to focus the beam instead of throwing light every where. Let me know if you come across a pair. I've seen a few online, but not many choices out there for "driving" lights this small. 95% of them are fog pattern.
And yes, if you plan on doing a rear bumper build, probably wise to hold off on the hitch mod.

My coolant temp was ok but after an hour or whatnot of moving up slowly in first gear for a lot of the way, my trans temps were the highest I've ever seen. Was a hot day too. Was running around 238 or something if I remember right.

You know that was my last build right? Haha I remember that shoot what a fun day. That rack was great for the price but once I got the Gobi I never looked back.
