Mini D2S retrofit instal on 5th gens.

Hello all, I am about to instal the moromito mini D2S 3.0 in my 5th gen and have a few questions before I takle this task.

1.has anyone done the retrofit with the D2S minis on the 5th gens?

2. Will there be a need for any modifying to the headlight in order to instal the mini D2S?

What part of the headlight will need the Dremel? Will the washer tabs line the projectors or will I have to modify that as well?

Im no expert on the 5th gens, but Morimoto projectors are supposed to mount inside the bulb hole. In general with the headlight being so big, Id think you wouldnt need to modify much

Yes I have.




You'll have to drimmel the hole out to make the ID much larger, then shave the rear shank off so you can get enough threads out to get the lock ring on.

a retrofit is not just a simple plug and play operation. make sure you read up on the tutorials on the lighting forums. I also found the how to's on the retrofit source to be useful.

I also found that that with my d2s ballast I had to create a h11 to 9006 wiring harness from these two pig tails.

Yeah, I've done a bunch of retrofits to tacoma headlights(D2s mini and FX-Rs). I just wanted to get a game plan going before I tackle the retrofit. I did a set on a 3rd gen last week and we had to shave off some to make every thing fit and just wanted to see if it was similar.

I'm in the process of cutting, so from what I understand I have to bore out the inside and shave down the lip?

Thanks! That's what I figured. Does the lremauning lip after the red need to be trimed or will I be good with just removing up to the leer line? Also how did you align them since there is no tab for the T washer?

IIRC, I had to take out about half of the thickness of the raised rim bit, and then I cut a key way at 6 o'clock (bottom) for the alignment washer

I ran in to a problem... I ordered an H4 kit. Can I still wire everything by splicing?
