Modified Aries Grille Guard

On your cow catcher erm... grill guard, can the headlight guards be removed??
I like that style guard but not fond of the headlight guards.

I had some time to kill today so I went ahead and removed the grill parts that cover the lights. they are held in by 4 screws each.

Here are the pics.

Needless to say, i think the grilles will be staying off the headlights permanently :zoom:

also planning on drilling two more holes to mount another 2 set of auxillaries on the grille guard.

probably end up going with another set of ipf968csg's

Looks sweet! That is a definite improvement! How about the main tubes? From the pics it looks as though they are welded on?

I guess I'm wanting the police style push bar look. I've tried to find that guard locally so I can take a look but none around, I have seen a Tacoma in town with one might have to flag him down.

the bars over the lights cant be removed as they're welded on. i suppose a cut off disk and some rattle can paint could be used to touch it up.

Hmm 400 bucks to take a cutoff wheel and rattle can to it? I don't know :shrug: let me sleep on that one, but maybe. :naughty:

at the price winter motorsports is selling their mount for you could buy the aries, cut off the bars and have money left for a whole wack of lights

Honestly that thing is hidious! I cant imagine they sell many of those, for half the price you can get a BudBuilt mount that goes behind the bumper cover so all you see is the fairlead.

Still gonna consider the cutoff/rattle can idea tho.

maybe you can try contacting aries directly?

ask them if they're willing to make a one off without the bars going over the lights?

you could say "i'm part of a large community of 4runner enthusiasts who would love to see such a product come into fruition"

throw in a few "i plan to put alot of pictures on the internet of the finished product which would essentially be free advertising/marketing"

I was just thinking about doing this mod to mine, the other day. I am planning on talking to a metal shop to see how they can finish off the cut-off ends.

I've been thinking about ways to finish it off also, grinding and rattle can just seem cheap. Next best idea i had was grinding them flat then making "covers" out of black diamond plate cut to fit inside from where it bends inward to the top and using the grill mounting holes to mount the cover. I saw black diamond plate at the home depot don't remember the price but can't be to much for a couple square feet.

Saw the bar at autoanything for $399 with free shipping, what did you guys pay?

i ordered mine off of autoanything. it survived a trip from texas to washington (where i picked it up) without any problems.

they ship via ground freight and you can inspect and reject if its no good.
