My 4R was stolen

Sorry to hear this at any time of year. A friend had his truck stolen the same way. Did you have Apple devices (I-phone, iPad or MacBook) in the vehicle? If so, you could use the "find my Iphone app) to locate them.

App has to b installed too. Its not enough to have device in the car.

You are not a moron for doing this. I do this everytime, and mostly everyone does this kind of thing. The morons are the low lifes, scumbags lazy asses that stole your hard-earned truck. Sorry to read that. Hope you luck.
 
Having to deal with these dirtbags on a daily basis at work, I know they are just stealing it to flip whatever they can get out of it. Then they will dump it and go buy their dope with the proceeds.

If the other vehicle is an accomplice, I am sure they were rolling around until they spotted an easy target. Make sure to describe the other vehicle to the police since they may know about these particular suspects based on the MO.

Actually if you call apple they will remotely log in to your device and install the app for you. Can't beat them! I know even if you are not a current on star subscriber they will still locate your stolen vehicle. Sucks to hear. Hope you get it back in good condition. (Yes I know we don't use on star. Too bad)
 
No iPhone no on star, nothing useful.

I described the other car, after 30 minutes the dipsh-it CHP useless spec of human life just gave me a report number and scolded me on how that's an easy target. At one point he says to me "So you left your car running with the keys in it and the door wide open" I said no, buddy, the door wasn't open and I have the FOB key. I was hoping the car would turn off after a certain distance
I guess not.


Thanks for everyone on here for your support and advice. Hope everyone had a better Christmas than us. Wouldn't wish this experience on anyone, minus those pricks ..
 
I feel for you, man. Don't think it is necessary to scold someone who is going to be beating themselves up anyways. It is kind of like saying "I told you so." Once again, not necessary in this case.

How is your insurance company handling it?

I see so many people here in my sub division that go out, start the car, wait a few minutes, put kid in car seat, then go back in for something.

after reading this.. i'm curious how much the toyota safety connect costs? but that's stupid that they cant activate it and track the vehicle.. i always figured in this scenario they would.. that would be a smart to be able to do.

i live in a very safe subdivision and in the back, 2 ways in, and the same 2 ways out

I have it. I think it was like 120 a year or something similar...I think that's at least in the ballpark.

Sorry about this situation OP, they will be in trouble as soon as they turn it off though, from what I've read the smart key isn't easy to bypass, and they won't be able to start it again without it. So hopefully they won't realize this and it will be found somewhere soon.
 
Thats horrible! Im sorry you're going through this during the holidays. Hopefully they find the car and total it out so you can buy a new one. A car can always be replaced dont beat yourself up over it. That's why we all have insurance.

Mine just auto-renewed for about $138 I believe. Seeing as how I'm in the sandbox right now and the wife isn't driving the truck much, I was almost wondering if it was worth it. I guess this unfortunate event just answered my question!

That sucks Danny - we're all hoping there is a happy ending to this.

It shouldn't start again once it's turned off. My Mazdaspeed operated this way. Once started, you could toss the fob and drive. Once shut off, you were SOL.

Have you talked to your insurance company? How do they view this situation (truck running, unlocked, you not present)?
 
OK, here's the follow on stupid question: what's to prevent you from calling up the Safety Connect folks, and telling them you want to re-subscribe. Pay the $120 fee. Then say, "oh by the way, my truck is stolen...need you to locate it." ?

I think they just send a signal remotely to the truck to restart the system, right?

I'm sure it's probably not that easy...but it seems like it should be.
