My 4R was stolen

Mostly likely it was used to joy ride in and any valuables inside the truck will be taken.

Since it has the smart key they cannot restart it once the engine turns off. By now the 4runner is most likely sitting somewhere on a street corner. Hopefully someone will call it in for being parked at the location for a long time.

Its just a waiting game for now unfortunately.

I used to have a Lexus IS350 with the smart key system. I seen many many people leave their car running and unoccupied. This is a big no no. I even witnessed an older couple parking their ES350 and forgot to press the "stop" button and left the car running while they were shopping.

When I talked to them, they said that I would have had to activate it before hand and press the button while I am in the car to enable it. I can't be activated otherwise. Really lame.

OK, here's the follow on stupid question: what's to prevent you from calling up the Safety Connect folks, and telling them you want to re-subscribe. Pay the $120 fee. Then say, "oh by the way, my truck is stolen...need you to locate it." ?

I think they just send a signal remotely to the truck to restart the system, right?

I'm sure it's probably not that easy...but it seems like it should be.

Yea from what I remember you have to press it, talk to them to activate it. Hang up and wait for the light to change to confirm it's activated, and then call them back to confirm.

The car was stolen in Chino Hills, no where near my house.

Sorry to hear that man, I know it has to suck! For what it's worth, on your next vehicle (or this one if you get it back), get a Python or equivelant remote starter/alarm. In my truck I can use the remote start but without the key in the ignition you cannot go anywhere. As soon as you put your foot on the brake pedal it will kill the truck so you cannot drive it without the key but you can still start it and let it warm up. There are a few different systems like this one out there but it's well worth the money.

I just went through the thread a min ago, hoping to see that the truck was recovered. Sorry to hear that man, I've been in this situation before and it sucks. My old car got stolen and stripped, hope that doesn't happen to yours. Hope karma comes back and takes a giant dump on them.

I think the original poster mentioned he left it running with the keys when it was snatched. I myself leave it running sometimes too but never again. Sorry for what happened I can only imagine how you feel. Good luck.

My take is it's not a joy ride since it went hot the moment it was taken. I'm thinking they knew exactly what they wanted (with keys and all) and it will end up out of the country.

FYI - the police DO NOT search for stolen vehicles. Your truck will be towed to a storage facilty and no one will tell you where. If by chance the towing company calls... (you) will have to pay towing and storage charges.

Glad to hear your family is safe and your little one wasn't in the truck. I, too, many time leave my truck running (even though I know I shouldn't) in the lot when uploading/loading things. When you replace it or recover it, of course, be sure you have something that disables the ignition when a perp tries to take off with it. Keep us informed on what happens. Good luck!

You don't want that truck back. It was either broken down into 1000 parts within an hour after they took it or it is being used to smuggle drugs in/out of the country. Like another said here, the police are not interested in finding it - bigger fish to fry.

Forget about it. This is what insurance is for. Be glad its a Toyota. You'll probably get $4k less than you originally paid for it from the insurance company so long as you don't tell them you left it running and unlocked.

And the guys who took it will show no remorse and think they did nothing wrong because he was doing the needful, thats all they know, and thats how they feed their kids. They see it as taking from a filthy, rich insurance company, not some guy with a wife and kids. You're just the intermediary in this. Happens hundreds of times everyday.

So

They found it. I went today to check it out. The Dumbas-ses ****ed up my dash board pretty bad but I guess didn't figure out how to remove the head unit but they damaged it pretty good.

Rear budget has some damage and all personal belongings (including three cameras) are gone. They left the stroller.

Now just got to get it to body shop to see what will for of this.

The worse part for be is that they left no finger prints. I asked the police to come dust it, they weren't happy about that but they did. I hope they get there's from the real judge upstairs.
