My bumper is tore up!!! Need options!! (Pictures)

Hey guys, today my wife backed into a mile marker accidentally after helping out with a accident she saw on the freeway. The rear bumper now has some slight scratches/marks on it, I spoke to a body shop today and it would cost $250 to fix the marks. Being the marks are right in the middle of the bumper, can I install one of these plate looking things to cover the marks up? if so, who do I purchase it from and how much is it? and whats your opinion on going that route instead of going with the repair shop?

i think that's just the factory rear bumper of a 03-05 4th gen. i don't think it's a piece you can add onto a 06-09 model.

The shop wants to take the bumper cover off, sand, and repaint...that's why it's $250 (which is a decent price I might add) However, if you can find an experienced helper, that can be lightly sanded or buffed to get rid of 90% of the damage. If you really want to do it right, you can wet sand w/ 1500 grit and see what comes out, then use severl layers of touch up sanding in between to bring it up to the right thickness and it should be good as new.

The only thing he can't touch/repair is the black plastic step pad on top of the bumper, there is a small ding on this. I'l post pictures later if anyone cares to see, the truck is being fixed now

Agreed that is a good price. Get it done.

I had two scratched in the middle above the hitch and they ended up replacing the whole bumper. (I got rear ended so the other persons Insurance covered everything.)

Naw that's nothing. I'd leave it.

A few weeks ago I backed up into a boulder off trail after some shooting. I was already to pull the trigger and get another one, but the $800 total cost (removal, new bumper, paint and reinstall) made me reconsider as it was just on that 'edge' of noticing it versus the cost & effort.

With what I see - I'd buy a little touch up paint and see what I could do after taking it to get a decent wash/wax job.

check out ebay they have several vendors that sell the bumper end cover for around $80.00 and you could have it color matched and save money by havina new piece

I say it gives it a "rugged" look. Like it's been used and served a purpose. Those marks tell a story like scars on your body. :happens:

I'd hate to pay a huge chunk of money to fix something like a bumper and then a week later I end up ripping it off on a trail or something. :crybaby:

Gossh, that's just a scratch. Spending a couple bills to repair that is not worth it. When it comes to bumpers, they get bumped again and again. Kinda like door dings.

I can see not caring if I went on trails all that time, but I don't. This is my pride and joy that I paid cash for, and that I might ad, took a long time to save up to buy. I like my autos to look clean inside and out with 100% scheduled maintenance done. If I get a dent/scratch or knick I get it taken care of whether it be big or small or that I could possibly get another the next day.
