My T4R 3rd Gen Projector Retrofit

I finally have come around to getting this little project started. everything i need i bought off of ebay to do my projector retrofit. i've read a lot of thread on peoples conversions here on T4R.org. Now I just have to wait until everything comes in this week. I will post pictures on the stock housing and the process of everything soon. first i'll list everything a bought and its prices

-2.5" H4 Morimoto Mini D2S BiXenon HID Projectors - $86.80 (TRS on ebay)
-55w VVME Xenon HID Kit - $49.39
-Panamera Shrouds - $30.00
-LED halo rings
-Amber LED strips

hopefully you won't have harness issues with a 55w kit. You might be melting some stuff.

I recommend not cheaping out on the HID/ballast part- go through TRS direct. The cheaper ballasts tend to fail and have poor circuitry / flicker.

55 watts is fine... its the exact same power as a regular headlight bulb.

I would definitely be running a stand-alone wiring harness with ALL projector retrofits. The stock headlight wiring is pathetic.

ya, that's why I mentioned to steer clear of a 55w kit. I've never seen a 35w kit do any damage, but it's been discussed here how some people have. I can only imagine what 55w can possibly do.

edit: I am by no means an HID/projector expert like you though. I only have one conversion under my belt.

thanks Yoter, i think it will look good once it is on the runner. still waiting on one last piece to the puzzle. the amber LED strips are on the way, i'm trying to do what GottaBeTRD did with his headlights

projectors, bulbs, ballasts, and shrouds are out of a 2012 Infiniti M37x. It was a huge pain in the ass, but the quality of the components is second to none.

how much did that cost you? sounds very pricy, and i'm a full time student so hopefully my retrofit turns on great

long story short, they were free. I work for Infiniti and I got them from a car that was in a minor front end accident. The headlight assemblies were replaced because the mounting tabs were broken. If you were to walk in and buy the parts, it would cost you $2,500.

Yea don't worry about the wiring harness, it will be fine this is probably going to happen to your mini h1's though with 55W and TRS WILL NOT WARRANT THEM...

I have had 0 problems with my 55w fxr's, and I know how hard it is to do this kind of stuff on a students budget lol. Im a junior and the money is all gone now you just got to be creative!!! I retro'd a set of tacoma headlights that i got cheap sold them for double what it cost me and then turned around and retro'd my Runner

Looks like you've made some pretty good progress already. I'll be curious to see how the final product turns out (especially with some output shots!) I have a pair of 99-02 clear headlights sitting in a box at home as well as TRS's Morimoto mini h1 stage III (with 6.0 projectors, Gatling gun shroud, and 4300k bulbs) just waiting for some spare time to tackle the project, but I can't wait to get it done and see the improvements! The stock lighting sucks, especially on the 96-98 with the frosted glass headlight covers. Anyways, keep up the good work, and don't forget to post output pics!
