Hey everyone,
Wasup? Just joined. I have a 1995 4Runner, 5sp, 3inch body lift, 33x1250 tires. I would like to add some accessories to it. I thought I'd start off with a full exhaust and intake. Can anyone make some good recommendations? I'm completely new to this, so any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Nick

also, I can't believe i'm considered and old timer ;)

It's done :p

Wow. First hour on the forum and already a positive contribution. I"ll try not to get too cocky ;):

Btw, any suggestions you can make for a full exhaust and air intake for my Runner?
Thanks.

Greetings Stomper,
Welcome aboard! Glad to see another 2nd generation owner on the forum. I own a '92 Auto 6cyl. Anyway, on to the subject.

A lot of our generation's are eventually modified with a Flowmaster 40 or 50 series. Thats what most people seem to be using. Also, as far as intake is concerned, people use K&N Filters. NOTICE: I've been told by a 2nd Gen owner that his was not worth the money!!! He suggested that i was better off going with a "Drop-In" filter which is only about fifty bucks. Anyway, these are just suggestions but I would definetly go with a Flowmaster. Happy Hunting!

:iagree:

Flowmaster:) Downey makes headers too if you mean full exhaust to the heads or cat back.

Intake:(

BTW welcome and nice truck!!!

wow - a new title for our group - how nice is that!!

I like it - stomper can stay!! :p

welcome stomper - I guess I might be (the) one that mentioned that the K&N filter filtercharger was not all that. I really do think I should have saved my money and just put in a drop in - -

I belive there was a thread no too long ago about intakes and exhaust - but briefly - Downey seems to be the company that people have better luck with(Northwest Of Road is the other-not so good luck there) - they have full exhausts - headers to the tailpipe - already bent and ready to go.

As far as the intake - well, a drop in K&N will be good - as far as boring the T-body and such - I have my bored - it did make some difference - but I really thing the MAF is the BIG choke-hold on the intake side. I am not too sure how to 'get around' that. :D

As I have mentioned elsewhere - my truck has 205K miles on it and in need of repairs typical of this age. I have researched for MONTHS now on this engine. The reality is that the HP per dollar gain on this engine is in the negative numbers :( . This engine just does not react well to simple mods. And going for head work, cams, etc. is VERY expensive if you cannot do it yourself. It is just a VERY reliable engine IMHO - I have not had any headgasket issues - but the standard #6 cyl problems (leaky valve guide) and a rear main seal leak.

I have just resolved to doing little things at a time and accept that my truck will never be a 'powerhouse'

Yes, I do believe it was soundguy who told me about the K&N filter. Thanks again soundguy! I still nee to ask Toyota about header gaskets......................................................................

Cheers!

Hey Danny,
Thanks for the welcome
So how much do you think am I looking at for a flowmaster exhaust? And is it pretty simple to install, just take off a few nuts and bolts and put teh new one on? I don't really want to pay to get it installed, and if it's simple enough, i'd do it myself.

Your truck has 205k miles? wow..that gives me hope that mine will last that long ;)
Regarding teh power, it's more powerful than my old civic, believe it or not, and I'm happy about that. Besides, I'm in savannah, GA, and when streets get flooded during a rainstorm, I just pass all those lowered cars that can't get through the water and I laugh. I know it's mean, but i laugh. :o :D

Prices, well....... I went to flowmastermufflers.com/ and the only thing they'd give me a price on was there new 40 Series Delta Flowmaster muffler for $111.19 or somewhere close by. There page only supports Amereican trucks and SUVs and not import. You can call their tech line (800.544.4761) and ask, atleast thats what the website tells you to do. I haven't actually installed any exaust systems myself, only 16 and not much cash to work with, but I did get a muffler job done by some locals. If you plan to do exaust work it will require bolts and such for keeping it to the car. However, you will need to some welding and from what I hear it is not your everyday welding; kinda hard I'm told. If you shop around, you could probably get someone to install it for you for a fair price. I had a guy weld me on a brand new everything from muffler to tail tip for about a hundred bucks (parts and labor) but the parts aren't anything exciting (offbrand crap). But definetly get something done, before your muffler cracks and breaks into half (mine for examle ;): ) Like I said before, a lot of people have done it, ask around and see what they have to say! All the best,
-Dan

By the way: I noticed that you figured 205k miles is impressive. These suckers are supposed to last you until 300k before they NEED major work. You've got plenty of room to "stretch yer legs" so no worries!
