New Fiamm Horn Install

If any of my NOVA / DC partners with a 2010 are interested, I have a set of El Grande's that's free to a good home. 1 week (and maybe 5 honks!) on them. It's better than letting the movers take them to MO when I PCS this week and easier than worrying about Amazon's return system.

I ended up going back to the OEM's...the '11 horns sound just as good as the El Grandes and had the factory connections. No incentive to have non-OEM. Lesson learned.

Done, super easy b/c I have a Limited and it was just plug-n-play. Not too loud but at least it dosent sound like a corolla anymore. Followed Harper and removed the red covers also. Thanks for the info on this.

Did your connection reach to the right hand side horn (if you're facing the truck head on) without issue? There was no slack on mine and I couldn't get it to reach the right hand side horn w/o undoing a lot of electrical tape and probably some other things that I gave up on, in order to fish out more wire.

It didnt have to, both connections are on the left side of the horns (if your looking at them head on). Look at Harpers photos on page 1, thats exactly what mine look like.

Thanks. I'll check mine this weekend. I feel like the connection was on the opposite side for one, but I might be wrong (unless I got some old model which was manufactured differently). Perhaps it was just like yours and Harper's but I STILL didn't have enough slack, unique to my 4R build.

I'm not so worried about it, I never use the horn, and when I do, it's hilariously funny in how terribly weak sounding it is. It's certainly high pitched and audible to serve its purpose!

Yep, checked them out, the connections are on opposite sides. What a bogus set. I know I tried left on left and right on right, as well as, left on right and right on left, but no matter how you slice it one of the connections was not going to reach. I checked every picture in this thread and my FIAMMs are different. Oh well. Had I realized this 8 months ago I could've returned them!!

The connections on my El Grandes are on the righthand side. If I remember correctly I had to cut the tape holding the OEM wire/cable bundle together in a couple spots to give more slack. It worked, but if I had to do all over again I would just bolt the two horns in the same spot, back to back to not have to worry about the wire length. I think other members have done that.

Skel - don't feel bad, mine were the same way. That's part of the reason I went back to the OEM horns (aside from the sound being the same) - that I couldn't get the cables to reach, even after cutting the tape without turning the horns in some odd directions.

Wiring Help

I need some help with my horn replacement. I installed the wolo bad boy 419 on my SR5 and after using the horn maybe 5 times I blew the fuse. The current fuse is 10a and I read on this thread that replacing it with a 20 is not recommended along with other literature that agreed. What risk is there with keeping the 20 in? I'm not real experienced in car mods so the easiest solution aside from re-installing the old wimpy one would be appreciated. How should I approach this issue?

Because the wire may be rated for 12 or 15 amps.....

Hence the wire cooks or burns before the fuse blows

You need to use a relay and get your power sourced from the battery with some bigger wire. . . pretty easy to do.

Relay Required

Been there, did that. You have to use the relay because in the first few microseconds the horn requires more juice then the 10 or 20 fuse will allow. The first relay that was included with the horn was bad. Had to buy a second one for like $5 and everything works great. Love the Bad Boy from WOLO!

Has anybody installed the WOLO Maxi Sounds? They have them at Advance Auto for 25 bucks. I'm just curious how they compare to the FIAMM El Grande everybody is putting on.

The El Grande are identical to the AM80S horns in my 2010 F150. Wish I would have known that, the local NAPA had them rebadged at their store for around 30 bucks for the pair. I also found them in a wolo box at advance auto for some reason. It appears that FIAMM has repackaged their AM80S with red covers and metal grilles to make them more of an "aftermarket" upgrade, when they are OE on fords. FYI.

Has anybody installed the WOLO Maxi Sounds? They have them at Advance Auto for 25 bucks. I'm just curious how they compare to the FIAMM El Grande everybody is putting on.

I just finished the installation of Wolo Maxi-sound 320-2T (Amazon.com: Wolo Model 320-2T Maxi Sound Universal Red Low and High Tone Replacement Horns - 12 Volt: Automotive) 45 minutes ago. It took me around an hour and a half to install following the instructions on this thread. I got mine at Pep Boys for 25 bucks. I was looking for the Fiamm that everybody likes here so much but wasn't able to find it in any store around here (Puerto Rico). It was relatively easy to install thanks to this thread, but the included instruction suck. They make a huge difference and sound loud and anoying enough. I don't know how they compare to Fiamm El Grande but from the youtube and sound files posted they sound exactly the same to me (and look identical). I'll post some pictures and sound soon.

Defective Fiamm horn

So I got my Fiamm El Grande horn which I bought online delivered. I made the harness that was spoken about earlier to jump to the second horn, hooked it all up and gave it a try and it worked, for a bout 2 seconds. I went to try it one more time before taping up the connections when I noticed that only one horn was coming on. Thought perhaps a bad ground or connection in the jumper but I swithched the hot wire over to the other horn and found out that it simply did not work for whatever reason. Since I though it would be a pain sending it back what I did was use the original horn that came with the vehicle in tandem with the single Fiamm. It's definitely a different tone and not the matched harmony that the 2 Fiamms were designed to produce, but it is now plenty loud and plenty annoying and will do it's job nicely. Oh by the way, I used the same mounting location as the original as well as the same bolt and nut used to hold in place and ground the original.

Finally had enough of my OEM horn... Picked up the Fiamm El Grande's this evening and installed them outside under my porch light no problems. Thanks to Titanpat and all others for the posts. One little hint. Tape up the connection prior to final mounting of the horns (especially if doing this in the dark!)

I just wanted to say a quick THANKS for all the detailed write-ups on here! I installed my El Grandes this weekend in the same location as TitanPat. I tried to get away with only installing one of the horns, in the stock location, and not having to rig up a harness, since it was all new to me, but it sounded horrible. The wiring wasn't bad afterall though so I'm glad I did it. I'm thinking of changing the locations later and mounting them on the "Limited" stock locations like Harper's pics show. I removed the plastic cover around the hood latch and saw that the SR5 has the mounting hole for it but I would have to order another mounting bolt. Satisfied for now. Thank again!

Installed the new FIAMM El Grandes today and took a few sound clips. (My horns were the newer version on the 2011's as stated by Scuba6 on page 8) I still prefer the slight change to the El Grandes.
