This is very true. I was so surprised when I moved to Texas. I always imagined open carry would be legal here (not that I agree with open carry), and it wasn't. In Indiana you have a license to carry a handgun, how you carry it is up to you.

Yeah, but that's the price you pay to live in a nice city. For the most part Texas is pretty conservative, the handgun carry laws are my only gripe thus far.

I can't say I have any gripes about the gun laws in VA. Open carry is fine, shall issue concealed handgun permits, all NFA controlled items are legal, no silly magazine capacity bans, or restrictions on so called "assault weapons". Only little quirk is we are required to prove citizenship to purchase any firearm with a threaded barrel. I just use my birth certificate. Hell, the NRA headquarters is based here.
I'm hoping it stays that way for good.

Yes, unfortunately we got a raw deal in the last governors race. However we still have a republican super majority in the house of delegates, and a 50/50 split in the state senate. So whatever our new governors personal views may be, we still have our own checks and balance in place.

Reasons like this is exactly why it upsets me when the gov wants to tighten gun control. There are times when the people need to fight back. I'm really hoping the citizens of NYC do the same.

I'm on Long Island so technically speaking I'm in the NY Metro Area, but from what I've looked into this confiscation is limited to the 5 boroughs of NYC. They do their own thing in the city.
I'm still bound by the NYSAFE Act (although I'm currently non-compliant) which limits my magazine capacity to 7 rounds, bans "assault" rifles with one or more military-style feature, requires registration of anything the state thinks is scary, among other things.
Currently, loading 8 rounds in my M4 while at home is more of a crime than raping a 1 year old baby repeatedly. These people are ridiculous.
When I say I'm non-compliant, it's at the behest of a good friend of mine and State Trooper. Just the sight of my M4 would make old Andy cower in the corner.
Now, a note to the people in other places who say "I don't live in NYC so I don't care."; Look at what happened in Colorado, Connecticut, New Jersey and California- ridiculous gun laws as if each governor is trying to one-up the last one. I know the recall in CO was a huge success for freedom, but remember why the laws were enacted in the first place; Michael MountainDew Bloomberg, his bank account, and his group of terrorists; Mayors Against Illegal Guns. I think the word "Illegal" was supposed to be silent like the "K" in knife.
Basically what I'm saying is it spreads. The more laws are enacted, the more it gets publicized, the more clueless people get brainwashed into thinking evil lives within a milled aluminum piece of machinery.
We have a major opportunity over the next 11 months. The democrats have lost much of their credibility over the Obamacare trainwreck and the Tea Party is getting more airplay and more recognition by more people than ever before. 2014 can bring the same old career politicians back to DC or it could be the beginning of the Second American Revolution; which will be fought not by bullet, but by ballot. Vote. VOTE. VOTE. Research each candidate. Vote for a person, not a party. Watch out for the RINOs like Chris Christie and Michael Bloomberg. Vote for the candidate who represents YOU. At the very least, vote against the incumbent. If congress won't enact term limits on itself it's time for us to do it for them. Flush them all out. Set the example for the others looking to take over the country that they will not be tolerated. The Second American Revolution.
