Not impressed with Nav/Entune

I have the basic nav system that uses cell data to power the entune apps. In the four months I've owned my 2013, the nav system froze up once and has just quit on navigating three times. Regarding the second comment, I'll be heading to a destination and in situations where you get repeated 'calculating route'...the system just quits on the route mapping as if you pressed stop navigation.

Should I have system checked out?

I have iphone and have zero problems after 6k miles. It is a tad bit slow to respond to input but I like the overall functions. The main complaints are that internet usage cannot work via Bluetooth with iPhones and the stupid hook up is located in the passenger glove box.

Why don't you just follow the damn route properly :caked:

I haven't noticed anything particularly wrong with mine besides it being kind of laggy sometimes?

Is there a version number of the Entune software somewhere hidden in the menus? If so, what's the latest version we should be running?

I've got a 4-week old 2013 TE and just want the latest I'm supposed to have. Thanks.

Regarding the nav in Entune, I don't like it at all and I hardwired in a GPS using a vent mount from ProClip. I'm not positive how the Entune gets its signal, but if it's from the cell network, you have no navigation when off the network. And that includes the Navajo Nation in the Four Corners area, and the trails of s/w Colorado where I am. With my GPS I'm getting satellite signal, so it works all the time. Or at least it's supposed to.

Are you sure about this? I distinctively remember test driving my 4runner with entune nav and driving it around the first few days after I got it before I even registered for entune and the navigation worked fine...

I'm sure that I don't like it. It "works", I just don't like the way it looks or the way one needs to input requests for directions. Not at all sure where the signal comes from, but if it's driven in metro area it will get signal if it comes from cell sites. And I do know that when there's no cell service (areas in my earlier post), nav systems that use the cell system don't work. My final straw was when I put in a known address to get guidance and it refused the address.

It's my understanding that "Entune" is a software navigation tool that moves you around bing, Pandora and other apps.
Your Navigation software is independent of that and relies on signals from gps satellites and is hard drive based and updated from CD's from Toyota.
I think there is a cell based interface for destinations and such but that is all.

Driving through metro areas satellite signals get blocked just like any other signal and maybe easier.

Lot's of misinformation in this thread too but I could be wrong.

I have used the Entune navigation dozens of times (probably over 100) and I only got my address rejected one time. The routes were also acceptable. It has never taken me too far off the beaten path and has always updated in real time (no lag or loss of signal).

Other than not caring for the lower resolution screen, I don't know how anyone could complain about the navigation. If it is failing, then your particular unit must be defective.

Since it was standard equipment on my Limited I am very happy with it. I'm not sure how much extra I would pay for it if it was a paid option.

I use the back up camera weekly (boat trailer).

On the other hand, the apps and such are useless for my purposes.

Well, I could very well be misunderstanding this whole thread.

It's the NAV that I don't like.

I tested my Entune in the LA metro area, and it worked fine. I could use Bing as search engine, I could use Open Table for restaurant reservations, never tried Pandora because I got the Sirius satellite radio. And I LOVE the Sirius, especially when driving the reservation. So y'all should probably take anything I've posted on this thread with a couple of grains of salt.

I didn't mean if you were sure about not liking it, lol. I meant are you sure that the navigation portion does not work without the entune connected to the data plan, because mine seems to work just fine and dandy without it

I think [MENTION=66316]1engineer[/MENTION] is right on the money about the entune/navigation system setup. I just wanted to clarify this only because this is the exact question I asked when deciding on if I wanted to get the entune navigation option or not. I didn't want to end up with a non-functional navigation setup after it expires because I sure as heck won't be paying for this worthless subscription when it does expire.

I get to Entune by launching the app, while phone is plugged into USB. Without the USB, app and Entune don't work anyway.

As long as your phone apps mainly Entune up to date and you connected to headunit via USB cable from phone, you should be prompted to update if not latest. As for version: Entune Version 55664 is the latest.

I've only driven my '13 4 runner about a dozen times and have had the Nav reboot/black screen of death more times than I can count.

The latest was this morning trying to voice enter my work address. After multiple failed attempts, Entune had enough and re-booted, although the stereo/XM kept operating. It also at one point decided it need to give me the legal warning as if starting up during navigation on a route.

So if I'm having multiple Nav reboots, how do I get this fixed? It is very unlikely I get this replicated while at a dealer.

Also what a PIA to go between the stereo and Nav
When in XM fro what I can tell I need to Apps>Maps>accept warning>accept notification.

It is not possible to toggle from the Navigation to stereo info screen and vice versa with one button touch/escape?

You have driven your 4runner 12 times and have had the problem happen more than you can count, but you think it is unlikely that you can replicate it for the dealer? Am I missing something here?


As for you last statement, I can toggle between the navigation map and stereo with one press of the button (if I have already entered a destination into the navigation).

• "STEREO" --> takes me to my current channel
• "APPS" --> takes me to the navigation screen

In all likelihood if I'm in for service the tech isn't going to drive down the interstate and enter voice commands right? Or enter a new destination and navigate to it for 25 minutes??

The reboots/lock ups have been while on a route and trying to enter a command either via voice or a key function. But hopefully you are correct and the techs can diagnose it and replace.

My thought too was that the "apps" button would revert to the map app while on a route. But my experience today was that it opened the "apps menu, I had to select maps, hit the legal disclaimer acknowledgement again.

Maybe that's part of my Entune problems? :noidea:
