NYC-Runner Build Thread

Hey what's this crap I'm hearing of you not invading TN with us ?

Yeah man unfortunately it's true :moping: There's just too much going on right now and the scheduling didn't work out with the kids and on top of that it's the wifes Bday on the 6th so just going to stay somewhat local and head up to VT with the Fam. Plus i have a ton of shit to do to the truck before NHOC (always down to the wire) Really bummed though i've been wanting to go down there and check it out for a while, even more so now that everybody's heading down!

Hello sir great rig. I wanted to know where you got your faring for the rola roof rack and your snorkel. Ive been looking for a snorkel but cant find them.

Thanks :yo: The Fairing for the roof rack i made out of fiberglass,, it's somewhere here in my build. I just basically shaped it first with some pasteboard until i was happy with the shape and then traced it onto the fiberglass. The snorkel is actually made for a older toyota land cruiser 80 series i believe. They don't officially make one for 4th gen "yet" There's a couple threads on here about them if you search with write ups photos and links.

I finally have something to update on this thread! It's been a rough summer with no time to wheel or work on the truck and before you know it it was gone.

Now like always I'm down to the wire again before NHOC next week, but it's getting done!

First and Finally on the long awaited build list is a rear bumper with swing out tire carrier. I ordered a 4x4 Labs DIY rear bumper kit from Luke at 4x4 Labs. Great guy and easy to deal with and they actually had most of the pieces in stock and only took about a week for me to get from the time ordered. Thank god I had me friends father to help my with it because I would of never been able to take on this big of a project myself. Its been a great learning experience and I am super stoked to get it all finished just in time for the run. Here's a few pics I took and I'll also add them to the 4x4 labs bumper thread along with a few not from my build experience. Also I have to give a shot out to @havingfun because I have to call him s couple of times when I ran into a few things,, thanks again! Just another reason this forum is the best!

Sweet rig, this is one of my favorite builds on here. How is that rola rack holding up? Did you do any additional painting/prep work to it before installing?

Haha no not the wiring,,,, just the actual manually engaging it:behindsofa:

You're killing me. Haha. Nice on the bumper though. That's awesome! I'm currently waiting to hear if the insurance company is going to total the 4Runner after a little Labor Day incident. A little stump sticking out the side of a bank took out my drivers side fender and rear quarter panel and window. Ripped off half of my rear bumper. Not my best day in the woods. Haha. The guy doing the quote seems to think it will be totaled, so now I'm waiting to hear what's gonna happen. Hopefully the numbers work out in my favor and I'll soon be adding some more armor. Sorry that rambled on so long. Looking forward to a trip report and some nice pictures!

Got my Addicted Off Road bumper installed last night! We actually did 3, mine,J053619 and NJshadow93. Great night of modding and installing till about 4am. I'll let them post up their pics(i only have crappy cell pics right now anyways)

I couldn't be happier with the new bumper it's Better than I expected it really compliments and changes the whole aesthetics of the truck! This bumper is solid! It really fits nice and snug, it couldn't get any closer to the body and frame. The approach angles are ridiculous. Thanks again Scotty AddictedOffroad for a Badass bumper!

Here's a few quick cell pics from last night. There will definitely be some better ones coming soon it's just pouring out right now.

What'd you end up using to coat your bumper? Is it powder coated?

Thanks man appreciate it!

The Rola rack is still holding up strong! Yeah i siliconed all the holes and the where the rack slides together to keep the water out. That was the only issue i remember hearing people complaining about with these racks, Is that water would get in there and they'd start to rust out pretty bad. Also after i had tabs welded up for my lights i re primed and painted the whole thing. But for the money this rack has been awesome!

I think in the future i might upgrade to a Prinsu design rack, there pretty sweet! I always wanted a whiteson rack but gobi pretty killed that dream, Diks!

I know man its embarrassing actually,, Hopefully i can redeem myself this fall and get some solid wheeling and get to use that locker! Yeah man pretty stoked about the bumper it's been on the build list for a longgg time.

Woww thats shitty sorry to hear that! Well hopefully you'll get a fat check and then you can go Mod crazy:thumb3: That has to be frustrating though sitting and waiting why your trucks all banged up!

It's almost done!!!

I just have to finish welding the inside and about 1000+ hours of grinding to do lol Then time to prime and paint. Kind of bummed because I really wanted to get it powder coated but there's no way I'll have time before the event next week. It's ok I'll probably just get it sand blasted and powder coated come spring because I want to re do my front bumper anyways.

Yeah, too bad life gets in the way. I'd be perfectly content spending all of my time modding and wheeling. Haha. That bumpers looking amazing. Quite the wings on the back. Haha.
Gotta add this so you can see a little of my poor baby-

Yeah, I need more steel on mine now... Mine looks like a soft plastic baby compared to yours!

Your truck looks great man.

I hear ya buddy me and you both. Yeah i'm really digging it and those wings are going to be some much needed extra protection in the tight trails in the northeast. Geez man that's rough,, Almost looks like you rolled it!! Well at least no one was hurt, you can always re build!

Thank man,

A lot of freakin work, But totally worth it in the end!! Plus I got to add a few custom touches onto it. Yes I know that's why I wanted them, I've had way to many close calls with trees.

I just finished everything tonight, and mounted the plate threw the holes in the other swing arm for now. I need to make a bracket and get a light kit.

We have a good trip planned this coming week. Stoked to put the bumper to good use!

Well it's done! Definitely the biggest project if taken on this far, But all worth it in the end! I couldn't be happier with the fit and finish of this bumper! I can't wait to get out on the trail and put it to good use.

Here's a few pics from when I mounted it earlier. I will take some better more detailed pictures tomorrow.
