OEM Part Numbers for 3rd Gen 4Runner: Tie Rods, Ball Joints, and Wheel Bearings

I have a '99 and mine are the flanged bolts. Never had any issues with them. But, to answer your questions, I believe the bolts with washers are the "newer" version.

There is a decent bit of unclarity due to these bolts. I will most likely just go with the washers.

I used the ones with the washers on my 97. I checked and cross referenced part numbers and couldn't find any convincing reason why the bolts with washers couldn't be used. The LBJs are the same and so are the knuckles through the years.

Properly torqued up with blue Loctite — no problems so far.

I think it's probably safe to say it's likely better off just to get the flanged bolts.

Yeah I think the differences if any are so minor as to not be an issue. I would think if there was any real concern — Toyota would have made it more obvious that one style be used over the other for any particular LBJ.

I'm not losing any sleep over using the new style on my 97.

So I went with the bolt/washer ones. My 02' has 210k on it and it had the recall done at 50k miles. The bolts that went in during the recall service were the bolt and washer ones so I picked up some new bolt and washer ones again. You commented on the torque setting... I did not know it changed? I am not totally sure what torque setting to use with these bolt/washer ones into the new LBJ.

For 2000 4runner LBJs does the package 04005-02235 contain both Left Side 43340-39465 and Right Side 43330-39585 ? (I realize the package has 2 LBJs I'm assuming these 2 parts ?)

I guess also
+ 8X 43340-39465
+2X 90171-A0005 ?- Not sure if these are needed?

do I need to purchase cotter pins separately?

04005-02235 contains a left and right lower ball joint but does not come with castle nuts (90171-A0005) or cotter pins. You'll need 8 of either 90080-10066 (96-00)(59 ft/lb), 90119-10933(01-02)(37 ft/lb). You can use the 90119-10933 without any issues, and a recent study/testing has shown that bolt to be better than 90080-10066. Just be sure to torque it to the correct value.

2001-2002 use a bolt and washer Part #90119-10933.

When I put 90119-10933 for my 2000 3rd gen VIN it says not compatible.....

Bloody cotter pins - well I'll have to find some that fit.... does anyone have a spec or Part # for the cotter pins,

Apparently the cotter pins are 5/32... so generic I guess works... does material matter ?... silly question I guess but I was going to pick up stainless steel ....

Either bolt part number works. Generic cotter pins are fine and material doesn’t matter. Just make sure that they are long enough to fold back over
