Official 3rd gen 4Runners on 35's Pic Thread

How in the world have i not shared here?

this summer i went to moab for rock therapy. 2 weeks before i had no intentions of going. So last minute i decided F it ill go, but sitting on 5" lift and 31s was going to looks absolutely ridiculous.

so i picked up some used 35s with 3/8" tread left for $100 and some sequoia wheels for another $100 and good to go!

Like many others, this thread has been an inspiration of mine since I purchased my 99 4Runner this year. After bouncing back and forth between wheel styles, wheels sizes, tire brands and tire sizes...

I ended up with this -

35s_03.jpg

35x12.5x17 BFG Mud Terrain KM2's on a stock 17" FJ Cruiser steel wheel. I have always been a fan of the black steel wheels and found this to be a great opportunity to run them (plus they are a lot cheaper)

Model: 99 4Runner 4WD 5 Speed Manual
Wheel spacers: Spidertrax 1.25" (Front)
Body lift: Not currently, ordered a 1.5"
Front Lift: Icon 2.5 Coilovers & Camburg UCA's
Rear Lift: OME 891 Springs & Icon 2.0 Shocks
Wheels: 17 x 7.5 Toyota FJ Cruiser Steelies
Tires: BFG Mud Terrain KM2's 35/12.5r17

Going to remove all the stock flares / mud flaps as the back is rubbing and possibly upgrade to some Bushwhacker flares. Getting some rubbing on the inner fender when turning but hoping the body lift will give some more clearance as it's pretty close. If not, then I'll start planning on cutting!

What are yall getting MPG wise?

2002 4R Auto, 4.88's, front bumper, skid plates, yada, yada.

It looks like 13.5'ish around town (or is you drive a little aggressive), and 14.6-16.5 on the highway (variables included, wind, terrain,etc).... so not terrible for a vehicle on 35's

Are you compensating for the diameter of the larger tire? Because your actually traveling further than what your odometer reads with larger tire

I calibrate my odometer every time I change my tires (super lift speed calibrator). The numbers are accurate.

Can finally join the club :guitar3:
35x12.5 Toyo MT on 5th Gen Trail Wheels with Spidertrax 1.25" spacers
Now to fold the pinch welds, trim the valence and a small body lift.
Just need to regear next

what lift are you running, Man? Truck looks amazing.

Thanks Man!
Here's my setup. It rides great and is not rough at all with these E Load or the P-rated street tires I had. Would highly recommend.

Front:
Tundra Bilstein 5100s
Eibach 3 inch lift coils
Set on the second perch

Rear:
4th Gen 2 Inch Lift Bilstein 5100s
LC 8 Wraps

Hub to Fender:
F: 23 3/4"
R: 25"

maybe... The general answer is yes but it really depends on a lot of other things as well. What tire? 35's are not all equal. What wheel and backspacing? How are you getting the 3 inches of lift? It all plays together. The truth is that with a big hammer and a little time any 35 will fit, but even then backspacing matters for interference with the UCA. So sorry not to be able to give a simple yes or no. But we are here to help so give us some more info and we will go from there. :high5:

So, I will be doing a lift in the future. Will a 3" suspension lift with a 2" body lift clear 35s without rubbing?

Short answer; On the street yes. Off-road under flex no. But there are a buttload of caveats.

I am not trying to be a jerk here but put your question into search and you will get enough thread responses to read for days. By doing so you will also learn a lot of other relevant and important things. There is no 'easy button' answer for your question. And we've all been there and had to do the research.

My choice in the end was to run 33's with that same suspension set up. So far no rub with extreme flex. I am completely happy plus I never wanted to take a hammer to my body panels. But YMMV and DTR...

Bad ass!

:thanks: Your rig inspired me to go for Trail wheels and 35s

BTW love your color matched front bumper :thumb3:

Also how do you like the 4.88s with 35s? If you did it again would you do 5.29s or stay with 4.88s?

My next step is to definitely regear this turd.

The 4.88's are a good match with the 35's. I live in Florida so it is relatively flat. If I lived in a hillier area the 5.29's would likely shine. But for the flats I imagine the revs would be too high and the speed limited. I had4.56's way back when and that just wasn't enough at all. The MPG have not been good lately but I blame it on the ethanol.

I've seen 15-16mpg with the 35's so I know it is possible. A long trip would prover better economy 16/17 maybe.

Ok.... it's been forever since I've been on here. Health issues, new job away from home, you name it.... My plan was to regear this winter, and 35s for new tires come spring. My regear job didn't get done as planned so I'm stuck with a delema.

I'm still in need of the new tires no matter what in the next few months. And my rig is ready for 35s except for the gears. (Unless I'm missing something)

SPC Upper Control Arms
1 1/2" BL Need to modify bumpers to fit. (Modify the front to raise it about an inch. Rear one will be cut back about an inch or so and recapped to follow the wheel well lines again, and then a vertical plate to help fill the gap between the body and the bumper.)
1 1/4" Wheel Spacers
Lifted (Extended Bumpstops, front and rear)
Current wheel is 16x8 with 4" BS
Current gears are 4.30s (Auto with E-locker, will be fitting 5.29s when ready.

If I get the 35s before gears, is it drivable for the summer? I won't be driving much due to work (I'll be away 4 to 6 weeks at a time) so just around town when I'm home and maybe a weekend camping trip if I can it in once and a while.

I would hate to get another set of 33s just for one year? If my daughters jeep had 16s instead of 17s I would get the 33s and just move them to her Jeep when the time comes... but no. I would hate to invest in a set of 17 wheels with the 33s which would take $$$ away from the gears.

Opinions, Options, and cover anything I blindly missed is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!
