That's some weird logic you're using. The same thing could have been said by the guy who purchased your 3rd gen when it was new. I'm sure there were plenty of 1st and 2nd gens around that he could have purchased for a fraction of the price that he paid for a new 3rd gen.

BTW, Toyota will most likely price the 5th gen very closely to the '09 models. Don't expect the price to rise a lot in this economy.

you really do fail, with your logic what is the point of spending 10 grand on a 3rd gen when you could have picked up a first gen or even a jeep that is just as capable??? Who gives a crap what he wheels or drives, last time I checked you dont have to OWN a 4runner to be registered on this forum. Your argument is so weak that you have to judge someone based on what they drive? If ever he wheels his "cup of tea" G just as hard if not harder than some of the 4runners on this site...

After $4 a gallon and the recession the value of all our 4runners is shot. I bought in 04 a 4x4 v8 Sport for 32k. 5 years later (last January)I sold it for $12,700. Ad in taxes and it's over $20,000 gone.

When I first saw the white 4runner picture from car and driver I thought it was hideous. After seeing other pictures I think it looks a lot better. Honestly, I think waiting a couple of years and buying used is the way to go. Either thator take advantage of the discounts that are about to come around on the 09 4runners.

That's true, but it's still not a V-configuration. I believe Subaru uses flat (or horizontally opposed) 4 cylinder engines only. As far as I know, a V4 engine has never existed, at least not in a production vehicle.

I think there were a couple of V4 production engines many years ago. I think Ford (and I am talking 60s/70s, not in the USA) had one, perhaps Lancia also.

That said, it makes my hair curl when I hear a 'car guy' say "V4", because its obvious the guy has never looked at an engine and tried to understand how it works...

Then you get those ebay ads with dealers advertising V6 3series BMWs, really? your job is selling cars, come on, thats ridiculous.

SAAB also had a V4 in the late 60's in the SAAB 96 model that was developed from the Ford Taunus (Germany) model. Sold in US-reasonably popular for a SAAB. I remember looking at them when they were new.

Well, does you truck have a powerful V6? Does it have actual passenger size to fit 5 people? Does it even have rear disc brakes?!! Does your 4runner have a comfortable ride? Does your 4runner have 4-channel ABS or VSC or EBD or BA?? Does your 4runner have ATRAC? Can you install ATRAC on your 4runner? (BTW, you can easily put on a rear locker on any 4runner.) Does your 4runner have a strong body-n-frame for superior crash protection? Does your 4runner have side curtain airbags? I can go on and on. You're comparing a USED vehicle made close to 10 years ago to a BRAND NEW vehicle. How much did YOUR 4runner cost when it was new back in 2000? Do you get it now? Is it anyone fault that your 2000 4runner depreciated to $9000?? What i wrote above in response to your post was not meant as an insult, but it was meant to get you to understand that everything is relative.

Now, for me, do you realize that i am THE CREATOR AND ADMIN of this 4runner forum? I used to own a 2002 4runner (same gen as yours)...and thus this forum came about. So, why don't you keep your mouth close before embarrassing yourself more, ok?

Not sure about cars, but Honda motorcycles had V4's.

If they decided to put a V8 in the 5th Gen at some point in the future, I have no doubt it will be the new 4.6L from the Tundra. I did a little research on that engine and it looks like a great engine. It puts out 310/327 and gets up to 25% better MPG than the 4.7 in that application. But I dont see that for at least a couple years after they gauge demand. I dont see that kind of demand picking back up, so I dont see that as a possibility. Consumer credit contraction beat estimates by 430% (4 bil vs 21 bil) so I dont see things picking back up for a while, but thats a whole 'nother thread.

So for the most part we've deducted over 19 pages is that the looks and lack of V8 are the main concerns and looks are subjective and the lack of a V8 will have a minimal effect on the majority of buyers.
I think the lack of a V8 bothering people boils down more to a psychological reasoning (more so with men than women) more than it's usefuelness;it's not like comparing a V6 Camaro to a V8 Camaro. The V8's only real advantage is with towing or maybe pulling out a stuck vehicle.

I still see no reason why Toyota Runner sales will really be any different than they have been over the last few years.

Regarding it's price compared to 3rd gen's. I bought my 2002 at the end of 2007 with 96K miles for $15K. It still has the original sticker price in the glove box - $36,800. So, if the 2002 limited like mine had a sticker price of $36,800 10 years ago, I wouldn't say that $40K for a new one is that much out of line.

But it will have a big effect on some. I DO tow, and I WON'T be buying a 5th gen unless it has a V8. It fits, why not make it an option?

I am looking forward toward the pictures. By the way, when I first looked at 4Runners, it was 2000 and the first one was a 2WD SR5, cloth seats and it had a $32,600 sticker. It did have the fake wood trim though.........

I personally do not care if the V6 runs better than a V8 or gets a little better mileage. I am old fashion and love the sound of my V8. The V6s sound wimpy even thouh they are a good motor. That is just my 2 cents.

It's not unusual for dealers to take orders before the release date. I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota dealers are taking orders right now. Most dealers have few, if any, '09 models left on their lots in my area. I don't think many '09 models were even manufactured.
