In a few years my 4th gen will be converted into a dedicated trail rig, and kept until it dies. Once I am in the market for a new DD I will look at the 5th gen as a possibility. For now, I have no desire for one.
It will take a while for a decent selection of aftermarket parts to be available anyways.

It looks like the whole front end got smushed in. Not sure if I really like it or not...the hood looks too short from the windshield to the front.

That may be one of the trucks they were testing up at the Rubicon or other similar trails.

Idunno, I was over on the FJ forum for a while before I got my 2nd 4R and it seems they are on their 3rd revision of the fender area, but it is still having problems. Also Toyota is being very very shady about fixing it under warranty. This was THE thing that put me off the FJ for good. It was even happening to people who never go offroad.

Are you sure they are discontinuing the FJ? That debate seems to go back and forth. Last I heard there was going to be a 2010 FJ.
There will be a 2010 FJ, with a bump in HP and MPG, and a loss in TQ. Not as much as the 4R but it will have the dual VVT-i 1GR-FE. Also no req to use premium. New color: Army Green replaces Voodoo Blue. Among other things.
To keep this on topic I will say I love the 4wd lever, looks like they took it from the FJ. Wonder why no manual then?
From the C&D photos posted; I'm really disappointed, I don't find the exterior to be at all attractive (Pathfinder crossed with a Passport is my first impression). The interior looks good, but not the interior doors. I'll have to see one in person, but I am really unimpressed.

Hey guys, new here, but I have followed the forum for a while. From what it looks like, the white 4runner is the limited edition...wheel size and front end grille are a give away. From the rear view picture, the silver 4runner looks like it has much more wheel well space, maybe the SR5. If thats the case, the SR5 will look a lot better...more rugged similar to the 3rd gens. i am not a fan of how low the front end of the white one.

For starters, I liked the angle shot Toyota posted of the Trail Edition. However, after seeing the Car and Driver photos, I hate the taillights as they look like the Tundra's and upcoming Prado. They are way to massive and goofy looking. Secondly, the rear bumper does not flow well...looks odd. Next, the bumpers seem to big/tall/long...seems like they ought to be about 3 inches shorter in height...not feeling the "skirt" look. Otherwise, the front seems ok, minus the size of the bumper...goes way to far down to the ground. The interior looks ok too. I really think Toyota should have made the truck appear more "truck" like, less bulky/CUV like. Of course, I cant judge until I can touch!

But if you compare the Toyota posted Trail Edition to the white Limited Edition in the c&d photos, you'll see they appear to have different bumpers. I would expect that the Limited, with 20" wheels and a NAV system, appeals more to the "skirt" look crowd, while the Trail Edition would not.
Once we get a full shot of the Trail Edition, I think we'll be far better able to judge the design. This week there was a post on some woman's blog (it has since been deleted) referencing her husband going out to Colorado to film a 2010 4Runner commercial... Given Toyota's investment in advertising this as an "offroad vehicle" I believe it's fair to expect the styling cues on the Trail edition to more closely resemble an offroad capable vehicle, without all the Limited "skirting" and nicknacks.
