OPOR Sliders Installed

I'm having trouble with the driver side... I'm not sure what to do about the KDSS lines and I figured ask before making a mistake.

Do the sliders go behind the KDSS lines? If this is the case you must unbolt the brackets that hold the KDSS lines against the frame. I tried this, I unbolted the 2 visible bolts but the lines barely moved. I didn't want to try to move them too much since they are non-flexible metal lines. The KDSS lines are in the way of 2 slider brackets, the middle one and the rear most one(I understand where to put the bracket supplied by MetalTech but the KDSS lines are still in the way).

I'll try to post pictures this afternoon.... its been raining here for 12 hours.

Yes, in between the KDSS lines and frame. If you already found and unbolted those two bolts for the KDSS where the slider bracket mounts in rear. Follow the KDSS lines forward and you will see they also bolt on up front by the front leg of the slider. There is a thin skid plate that you need to unbolt and then you will see where to unbolt the KDSS (Underneath the driver side door). After yoiu remove them (I think I remember there being 2 bolts) then the line will move as one peice enough to slide in the rear leg mount of the slider.
I can take pics if needed.

I installed mine a few weeks ago. I happened to be watching my Runner in a parking lot when a perp pulled in next to me to park. He started to swing his door open quickly but stopped as soon as he saw the OPOR's. His further actions were very slow and methodical. Amazing what a piece of heavy metal can accomplish. :clap2:
 
Has anybody installed these on a 2016 TE with KDSS? I went to install mine tonight. The passenger side was simple, even by myself. When I went to install the driver side, I couldn't get enough play in the KDSS lines to slide the slider base behind them. I removed the bolts for the two clips on the line, but the pump is only about 4 inches in front of where the line first makes contact with the frame and is keeping it taught against the frame. I removed the protection plate on the pump and loosened the two bolts holding the pump mounting bracket to the frame to see if I could get the pump to slide out a bit and it didn't budge. Anyone else have this issue?

Yes. It's a bit tight.

I used a couple of small wooden wedges to push the hard KDSS lines out away from the frame 3/8" or so.

As you should be. :)

the wedges worked well, and were inserted from the top down. When the slider was jacked in to place, it simply pushed them up and out.

Take your time, and keep track of the bolts. I believe I had to reuse one KDSS bracket bolt in a hole on the slider plate that meets the frame rail...
 
Thanks for the help guys. The shims worked great to move the lines over while I jacked the slider up into position. Driver side slider is now installed. :thanks:
 
Do I need to mess with the gas tank skids like they do for the C4 sliders? Does the cover for the KDSS come off or just the brackets to move the lines?

I plan on installing these in a parking lot before hitting the trails, I want to make sure I have what I need.

I don't need to cut any tabs or anything like the C4 sliders do I?

I'll bring a socket set, wood shims, rags, anti-seize, jack, blanket to work off of... any other tools I need?
 
You won't need to touch the gas tank skid. There's also no cutting required.

Your tool list looks good. 2 jack stands would be a good addition as well to hold the slider while you get the first couple of fasteners in place. Or a second set of hands.

thanks, i'll have a second set of hands who has installed and removed the exact sliders and it will also be in the parking lot of an auto parts store in case i need to run in and grab jack stands.

does the KDSS pump cover get messed with? It looks like these don't impact that, just the line brackets (the reason I ask is because I am going to check all bolts and make sure nothing is seized up ahead of time)
 
Just the line brackets and if I recall one bracket for the brake cable was removed and replaced. I also put some flat washers between the line brackets and frame to shim the lines away from the sliders so they didn't rub. Overall not to hard.

I'd add a pry bar to the tool list to pry the lines back a little.

The cover for the KDSS valves doesn't have to be removed, IIRC. I took mine off and cleaned all the small rocks and dirt out of it though--- but I believed I removed it in an effort to get some more slack in the hard lines (It didn't help).

It's worth taking off for cleaning stuff out if you're already down there. There's only 2 bolts that need to be removed, and they're very easy to get to. It seems to catch and hold on to a lot of dirt. definitely a good place for anti seize on the bolts
