OW 2.0 2.5 owners, give your two pennies!

After looking around at various spring lifts, something draws me in to the OW2.0 kit. I know quite a few of you here are using this setup. How do you like it? What is your usage? I am not set on spending the extra $600 over the OME kit if it will not benefit me with my usage (light to medium trail duty, pulling a camper, and daily commute), but it is nice that if I ever decided to get crazy with a bumper or something I have the option without any work other than turning a spanner wrench.

I was about to pull the trigger on the OME for the simple reason that I've logged tons of miles in LC and the like all over the world and almost all have used OME. It's a simple no fuss system that just works. And works. And then keeps working.

However too many 4R guys have complained about a too hash ride. Others have experienced lifts much higher than advertised.

Not wanting to be annoyed with not getting what I expected I went with OW 2.5 which according to UPS will be here this week.

The only negitives I've heard about OW was a bad shock here and there which was quickly replaced. I'm also going with SAW 1.5 rear coils.

I can't give you a reason why spending the extra $600 is worth it from a ride perspective since I've never been in a 5th Gen with an OME setup. I can tell you three things that swayed me towards OW - the shocks are valved specifically for the vehicle, the customer service, and the exchange program. If you call up OW and talk to Mark or Andries they'll ask you questions and tell you whether the 2.0 or 2.5 is right for you. I never once had either of them try to push me towards the more expensive kit or sell me any unnecessary add-ons.

The exchange program is pretty impressive too. OW shock bodies are rebuildable so when yours needs replacing, you let them know and they send you a rebuilt shock. When you receive it, just swap yours out and send it back to them. Much cheaper than having to buy a new shock.

I got the 2.5" kit but haven't had the opportunity to install it yet (rain). I don't know anything about the OME kit, but I'm very impressed with the build quality of the OW parts and the customer service was excellent. I thought about getting the 2.0" kit because there aren't a lot of offroad opportunities in FL, but I decided on the 2.5" kit because I'd hate to be disappointed later. I think someone quoted John Wayne in a different post "If you need six, load six." Hoping to move west in the future I know that I'll want to do more with the truck and the 2.5" will be ready for it.

Love my 2.5 kit. My truck is a daily driver (20K a year) and have no complaints on the ride. The girl friend likes it too. I am going to be adding a Shrockworks front bumper and a rear bumper at some point. Plus skids. Hence the 2.5 kit.

In the dirt the suspension does great. And the customer service has been top notch for me.

You won't be disappointed.

Now I can't say anything about the OME stuff since I have never ridden in or owned any part of the suspension.

I forgot to mention, I have adjusted my coil-overs at least a half-dozen times (2x before bumper/winch). I think the best way to set it up is to measure from the frame to level ground, the fenders will fool you.

it's nice to be able to adjust them, instead of replacing the springs.

Do road bumps sound a lot more harsh since you guys put your heavier suspension on? I put the OW 2.0 Kit on and now bumps sound like bangs and it sounds like rattling coming from under the vehicle. Of course I have checked and checked again but cannot find anything loose. Other than all the different noises since I put the lift on, I really like it otherwise.

What model 4Runner?

You really need to have somebody look into what the "bangs and it sounds like rattling" is ,as that's not normal.Should be like "butta"

There should be tell tell signs of rubbing or wear someplace.Did you use the sway bar relocators and shim the front supports? Sway bar can contact the supports and make noise if they weren't used.

Other than not personally having hundreds of thousands of miles experience with OME, this echoes all the thoughts I had regarding OME suspension for the 5th Gen 4Runner. OME is simple and proven but 3" of lift and harsh ride wasn't for me.

I'm running the exact same set-up that phillyd2 has just ordered..OW 2.5 with SAW 1.5" rear coils. It's the perfect compromise between on-pavement handling and off-pavement capability.

I think you posted sometime ago about alignment issues and the swaybar rubbing after alignment, was this resolved? It may be that there is still contact between the swaybar and the coilover due to the alignment with UCAs.

I am running the 2.0 kit for almost 6 months now. I could not be more pleased. I have full Bud Built skid plates and would have no worries about adding a front bumper. The 2.0 kit is a perfect balance of on and off road capability. It really is amazing how you lift the truck up and it still handles and rides better. Cornering is flatter, and bumps properly absorbed. I did a moderate trail shortly after the install and it is so much better at controlling the body. That was what pushed me to upgrade. The truck was plenty capable in stock form, but load it down with passengers and cargo and the suspension is just not strong enough to control body bounce over rocky terrain.

If a front and rear bumper are definitely going to be installed, I would go 2.5. As mentioned by Intruder, Andries and Mark will help you select what is best. They could not be friendlier and easier to work with. I call total BS on the thread about difficulty reaching them too. These guys are the best.

I'm going to post my own experiences since I had the OW 2.5 kit for 7000 miles then switched to OME.

When I first got the OW kit, I had a bad front coilover and it made awful noise. Of course didn't know that it had no nitrogen in it until after installing it. So, I had to remove it and get a replacement from OW. That part was easy since they have great customer service but it was a pain to remove and time on my part. The second problem I had with the kit was that I was getting 3.25" of lift in the rear which meant I had to crank up the fronts to match, creating a very harsh ride. This when I have an ARB bumper and warn 9.5xp winch as well. This didn't make me happy and never settled after 7k miles.

So, I took everything off and went with the OME kit. I got just under 3" of lift all around and the ride is actually better. I've had OME on all my vehicles and should have gone this route. OME has the added benefit of no maintenance. This can be a plus and a con but I don't like to take off the suspension any more than I have to so OME was a better choice for me.

Again, just my personal experience.

Yeah the alignment guy just loosened the nut on the UCA and pushed it in a little bit and the squeeking noise stopped.

Harper7 I put the suspension on a 2010 SR5. I think I will have the mechanic from my trusted Toyota dealer ride with me and see what he thinks it might be. Maybe its just time I trade in for a new white one.
