wow, that looks great! how is it holding up? I'm going to see if the plastic dip comes in different colors for my application.

i wanna do this to my truck too. i looked online at home depot and found performix plasti dip. but it says it needs a primer to go on first. did you do this too or did you use a different kind ? please help i really wanna do this to my rims
Sorry for the late response, current deployed overseas.
I asked my wife how it is holding up and she says it still looks just as it did when I left home. When I was looking for the plasti dip I found it in black, red, white, yellow and Clear. If I was to repaint them again I would probably lay down a final coat of clear just to hold it all together. I however have no reason as of now to repaint it.
I didn't use any primer myself, just scrubbed with a bit of dish soap and called it good.

Once removed, the wheels looked just like I remembered before application. The only thing that was damaged was my poor fingers. The thickness of the coating around the holes in the rim was thin, causing me to use friction to remove.
**Lesson learned: The thicker you apply, the easier it will be to remove!**
Here are some pictures! I still need to rotate the tires, and remove the plastidip around the lug nuts.
I am going to apply plastidip again in the near future, and I am currently experimenting with adding color this time. The future may hold a dark gray wheel this next time. Your thoughts?

Sorry, my camera was acting up and I did not get any pics before removal. The coating still looked like the day it was applied. I only removed to check on the wheels and to prove a co-worker wrong at work.
I would recommend to anyone.
I did this to my trail wheels. Initially it looks great and the best part it is reversible (although it is a little bit of a pain in the a$$ to remove). The only problem is that if you plan on doing any wheeling, this is NOT for you. Plasti-dip does not hold up off road (and I had 4 coats of it on the wheels). My first short trip off road tore up the Plasti-dip. The brush put all kinds of nicks and tears in it. Yes you can re-spray but like the OP said it will look like a scab.
If you will just be using this stuff on road, then it's great! Yes, putting new tires will tear up the plasti-dip on the outer edge of the rim.

I just painted mine the other day. This is anthracite gray from dipyourcar.com. I bought the wheel kit (comes with 4 cans - two gray and two anthracite gray). Still have a lot left over.

Not my truck it's another member on here, I saved the pic when I was planning on doing mine.
A helpful trick that I learned when spraying the wheels on my old car, go buy a pack of index cards and slide them in between the wheel and tire, they will all flare out and and save you the headache of taping and masking off. Worked like a champ on my wheels, also makes touch up super easy if you scrape it.

Definitely use the index card trick. Here is what happens if you don't and its the biggest pain in the ass to get it off the rubber:

did you use the golossifyer at all?

nope, anthracite gray is part of their true metallic colors. So it has some "shine" to it without glossifier

sorry, I didn't see this.
They aren't super metallic. They are more on the matte side than metallic. You could throw a coat of glossifier on and it'll be much more metallic but I wasn't going for that look.
I didn't use pre dip or the protective dip coat. I feel like that is all snake oil and a waste of money. Comes out just fine without any of that stuff
