Possible rebate on 2014 4Runners

I'm hearing from dealers that there may be a rebate coming pretty soon for new 4Runners. They thought at least $500 and maybe $1000.

Anybody else know anything?

I would be amazed to see a "deal" on a 4Runner. They are NEVER included in any sort of specials in my area.

Well, you're obviously shopping ... tell them to take $800 more off now, and they can keep the Grand later.

Really odd sales technique to preannounce a rebate - it just freezes potential sales. Totally counterintuitive to Sales 101.

They don't have what i want in stock so I'm ordering one...probably. So i'm in a little different boat than someone willing to buy today.

Something must be going on, the two dealers near me have never had more than 2 Runners on the lot at a time in the last 15 years but right now they both have 5-7. It just seems really strange, they still won't deal on them either...

It depends on where you live. You can find all of this on toyota.com under local specials. There is a $500 cash back deal on 2014 4Runners where I live, 0% financing for 36 months in South Jersey and Southwest Florida (I’m sure other places as well…I just happen to know b/c this is where I have checked). The cash back deals near me end today. The window sticker that I saw in SW FL also had $1000 off a new 4Runner for the 30th anniversary special, but also had an “Adjusted Market Value” of $2,995 added to 2014 4Runners and $4,995 added to 2014 Highlanders next to the window sticker. I asked if Toyota knows about that upcharge and the sales guy said yes uncomfortably. The funniest part was that he had just told me that it was the first 4Runner he had shown in the past month, so they’re not exactly flying off the lot there. I guess they waive all or part of it to make people feel like they are getting a deal when they pay MSRP. Ridiculous.

They indeed did start new incentives today...$500 cash back and lowered the already low interest rates, etc.

I checked KY dealers and Indiana dealers and they are showing up on both. I think they are the Cincinnati region and the midwest if not mistaken....maybe others too.

Ive been to 3 dealers in town, central florida. Tow of them had very little inventory, 4 to be exact and the other had 6. The one with six told me, they hardly ever sell a 4runner. I thought this was an odd thing for a salesman to say so i questioned him, he went on to say, they just arent that popular. The 3rd dealer in town does a very high volume of toyotas and had 20 4runners but immediately dropped the price to what he called, net net net which was 4k off of invoice. Not sure what any of it means if anything but thats been my experience in florida.

Would you mind providing more specifics in terms of location? If you would prefer, please pm me. I have family in SW FL looking for a 14 and they would probably be willing to drive a few hours for a deal like that.

Looks to be Region-specific. Here are snips from Toyota.com "Regional Specials" in the build section.

In Illinois, $500 cash back + 0% financing. In Iowa (different sales region), neither.

ETA: I also note the Lease deals are different...

I think there are two completely different things going on right now for savings on 4Runner.

1st (directly from Toyota.com, location doesn't matter):

"30th Anniversary Discounts
Save up to $1000*

Toyota's off-road icon has been going strong for 30 years, and in commemoration of this milestone, we are offering discounts across the entire 4Runner line. When purchasing or leasing a new 4Runner, save up to $1000 off Limited grade, $750 off Trail Premium and SR5 Premium grades, and $500 off Trail and SR5 grades.

*Savings off of original 2014 MSRP, amount depends on grade purchased or leased. See dealer for details."

- You can see this discount on the Build & Price as part of the Package cost, and also on the Summary page (option code QD). This tells me this is something you would see on the window sticker and would also be built into the dealer invoice. So if you are working off the actual dealer's invoice, it should already represent this discount. This also means that 2014 4Runner's that have already been sitting on the lot may not see this discount, unless it's on the sticker (option code QD). Remember, MSRP (and Invoice) can change during the same model year.

2nd:

- $500 rebate on all 4Runner trims, but is specific to location (really could be any amount based on location, $500 for my location, could be no rebate for your location). Rebates do not show on sticker (MSRP) or invoice because they come and go. Dealer may not even bring the rebate up. It is up to you to know the rebates that are out there. There are also dealer incentives, etc that you may not know about (sometimes found on Edmunds, etc), that the dealer will not tell you about. Dealer holdback is a % of MSRP or Invoice (depending on Mfr). These are the reasons that the dealer will (can) go below invoice sometimes to make a sale.

EDIT: There are actually different option codes (QB,QD,QC) for the discount depending on trim level (amount of discount).

Just wanted to point out that you can't get the rebate and the financing togther. It's an either or type of deal.

And the 30th Anniversary discount is not really a discount at all in my experience. Yes, it reduces MSRP, but does not reduce the net price.

yes I was going to say the same thing. if you read the fine print of the rebate... it does not seem like you can combine the rebate with any other offer.

And yes the 30th anniversary discount only seems to help if you're buying at MSRP... not a good deal.

30 Ann Disc does reduce net price. Either negotiate; $X under invoice + incentives, or add in the $1000 discount on top of what you want to offer under invoice.

You can almost never get special financing along with a cash back rebate. It's almost always one or the other (or they combine special financing with a reduced rebate).

But, you can get the discount along with the rebate (or financing). As far as the discount goes, I doubt they would discount the MSRP and not discount the invoice at all. Dealerships would be bullshit.

Now I'm being told that the finance and rebate incentives will be around for months and months and may even get better. Just saying....

I tried pushing for the MSRP 30 yr anni deal on top of the discount i already worked on with 3 dealers, but no dealer was budging... I kept getting the same pricing on trail premiums. Best deals were about 38k-38.5k. Their other speil is that it's a rare car... of which i will not deny b/c I can barely find any of the color I want in socal. it kind of kills my leverage when there are only 2-3 of these cars in the color i want... am i just getting scammed? anyone else successful in adding on the 30 yr anni discount?

Do you know how much the "better" rebates might be? I'm waiting for my car to be shipped to the dealer. I don't think I'll be canceling my order, but I could be a punk and delay it I guess. The dealer told me they would give me whatever offer was available during the month my car arrived and the day i purchased it officially. What is your source too?

I'm trying to decide between the 0% APR or the cash back.

It's just dealer talk. The reason there are only a few 4R avail is because demand is low so the dealer will make it sound rare. Yet when they have a lot of a particular model it means that it is more popular but the dealer will spin it as the demand is very high so they'll sell out fast. The dealer is selling commodity, and they all have their own respective pricing policy.

How much better can the incentive get? Is it worth another $500 to wait and see, and be without the 4r, and go through the entire process again, and letting this linger in your head when you can do something more fun than thinking about this?
