If you have the radio controls on your steering wheel, I think you can still use the Mode button to cycle through the inputs to get to Aux. That would tie you over until you get a new radio.

No, the MODE button on my steering wheel doesn't cycle to that either.

Missed this. Yes I did. Crutchfield offered two wiring harnesses, one with and one without the steering wheel controls. I got the one with. I think it was $20 more.

I also got the telephone buttons and added them to my steering wheel. The new radio truly functions like the stock one with the buttons.

I do not have the telephone controls on the steering wheel. I do have radio controls, are they hard to add? Thanks.

Question for those with the NEX radio upgrades. I currently have a pioneer 4400bh that has bluetooth, hd radio etc in my current 2003 4runner plugged into my factory jbl stereo with pac adapter and upgraded front and center speakers. Love the sound.

I just purchased a new to me 2007 shadow mica 4runner with jbl system and I've been debating taking out my 4400bh and putting it in the new 4r or should I just buy the 4100nex? Is apple car play that nice? I like that you can use HDMI to mirror your iphone for directions, also dual video would be nice for the back seat, I have a 3 yr old.

Thoughts? Should i keep the 4400bh in the 2003 to help it sell? I just spent a ton on suspension and would be nice to save money.

Basically put the adapter on the small antenna wire and put it into one of the two female ports on the Y adapter, then put the other antenna into the other female port. The single male end goes in the HU.

Got the adapters and did the install this weekend. Installed Kicker speakers in the doors and paired them with the Pioneer AVH-3800 head unit. Great unit overall. Due to where the install occurred (an area with unusually poor radio reception), I wasn't able to fully test the connection of the adapters, but since I was able to pick up the usual stations, I sewed it up and put everything back together.

It wasn't until after I started driving around that I realized reception was unusually poor around town. My guess is the small antenna didn't go into the adapter all the way, or the adapter didn't go into the Y-connecter all the way. They were both very tight fits so it wouldn't surprise me. May need to yank it out and try reconnecting everything.

Only gripe with the head unit is it seems to have a love-hate relationship with either Pandora or my phone (Galaxy S7). All Bluetooth streaming is quick and seamless between the phone and the head unit with all apps except Pandora; when I use the integrated Pandora app specifically, every second or third use, the music will "skip", or mostly fade out for a second or so and then back in, as if it were pausing to buffer, even though it isn't buffering. Haven't driven it around long enough to determine whether reconnecting phone or restarting the app will fix the issue, but since all other Bluetooth applications work flawlessly, it sounds like it's something software-related on one end or the other.

2009 Toyota 4runner 4.0L SR5. OEM radio just went. Well, the AUX button just went. I can't plug in my iPhone to play music thru the speakers anymore because the button is unresponsive.

I was thinking of getting the same exact radio again thru eBay. But i see there are several different model numbers.

My OEM radio, on the front, has the model number 11823 on it. Do i need to stick to that model number only when searching for a replacement?

Please give me some advice. What model numbers will work? Should i pay attention to the model numbers when looking?

Some of the numbers i'm seeing on ebay: P1802, 11833.

And if there is a thread i missed that has this info already, please link me to it.

OR should i buy an aftermarket instead? If so, I would like to have the ability to connect the iPhone wirelessly to play music. But do NOT need to take and receive phone calls thru the bluetooth/speakers/microphone setup. If you have any advice in that regard i would appreciate it.

I bought this unit for about $100. Im using a moto x to connect using BT to listen to music and the phone mutes automatically when a call come in and then resumes playing music once the call has ended. This HU has the same if not better iphone connectivity then android.

The improvement in sound quality is worth it alone IMO. Also this has a 5 band EQ, outputs for a SW and numerous modes that really make the OE speakers sound better than i think toyota intended. All together i think i spent $200 for the HU and install.

im a pioneer guy and installed a few of the 3800, just make sure its to update the firmware and do the dvd bypass.

I got that idea from this thread but cannot remember who to give that credit to. Works great and never gets dirty, if the window is dirty give it a wipe or lower the window...genius.

I had the JBL system and used the adapter and steering wheel module. Sounds great! May consider amp and speaker upgrade some time in the future but for now its loud and clear besides there are a ton of great android equalizers to work the sound to your liking. Poweramp is a must!

So, I thought I'd add mine. Replaced the stock Limited JBL system with a Kenwood DNX573S. It comes with pretty much all the current bells & whistles - Nav, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, camera inputs, etc. DNX573S

One of the reasons I got it - it's compatible with the idatalink Maestro system, which is the adapter I used to install it. Works with the factory JBL amp without any issues, and it's programmable for the stock steering wheel buttons - you can assign the buttons to whatever features you want, and even add extras for long presses of the buttons.

Compared to what I read about people using collections of other adapters to make everything work, it was pretty darn simple. One box to connect, one wiring harness to buy. Hook the adapter to your computer to program it for your car, and how you want the steering wheel buttons to work, and then away you go. I will say it's a bit fun to cram all that wiring into the back of the stock stereo spot!

It's also got the neat feature of being able to tie into the OBD port of the car, and display some info, etc - not as good as a stand-alone reader where you can program whatever custom lookups you want, but considering it's a 'free' feature, still kinda cool. A couple of photos below showing some of the things it'll display.

My opinion, overall - it's a decent unit. The most aggrevating thing - there's a nag screen that comes up every time you start the car that you have to hit 'ok' on. It boots pretty quick - your last audio source starts back up in about 2-3 seconds, and maybe another 2-3 after that for it to be completely ready. The responsiveness is generally good, sound quality seems decent. I really only replaced the stock system because I needed something with bluetooth, and the head unit was on sale at Crutchfield Canada for much cheaper than I found it anywhere else - really weird.

Thanks for the update. I saw you have the 200mm unit. I can't seem to find that one (or similar). It would be nice to avoid using the "dash kit" with the narrower units. I've been trying to find good reviews about the various hardware manufacturers and the price differences between units can be significant.

Im looking to do a stereo upgrade in my 4runner and I am stuck between the scion radio and the Sony XAV-AX100. Both have their pros and cons. I would really like to see some pics of what the aforementioned Sony radio looks like in a 4th gen 4runner and to hear how people like it after using it for a while. My main concern with the Sony is having to deal with the warning screen every time I start my 4runner and that it will look out of place in the 4runner dash.

I am also concerned with the scion radio because I dont want to see a scion logo every time I start my 4runner. I think I found a Toyota radio that is identical from the Yaris and I am debating going this route but there are no guarantees it will work.

I like the features of the Sony better and it seems a lot simpler to install a back up camera in the future if i go that route. But I like the fit of the Scion/Toyota radio better and I am already used to the operating system, so there is no learning curve.

I also wanted to add a few questions for people that have used Carplay. Is it something that you can live without after using or do you find yourself preferring Bluetooth most of the time? I heard once you connect your phone you have to unlock it to use carplay, after unlocking it can you hit the lock button or will that disconnect carplay? How well does navigation work in carplay?

Sorry for all the questions, I have been driving myself crazy trying to find all the answers and decide if I want a more traditional Toyota/Scion headunit in my car with Bluetooth audio that looks clean and is simple to use or if I want an aftermarket radio that has more functionality and features.

Hi all, after frantically searching through a hundred threads on here last night about all the various stock configurations out there, and staring at 3 vehicle harnesses with no connectors along with like a million unused PAC harnesses, all I had to do was cut a few wires and got this installed today - everything's up and running except the factory backup cam - waiting on a cheap harness to arrive.

I couldn't find a wiring diagram for '05 (and even if I did, apparently they used 2 different JBL Nav's that year so it might not've been right) but I deduced that a gray 5-pin, 3-wire harness in the back of my old HU contained the three dreaded Reverse, Parking Brake and VSS wires, so I lucked out that they were there for me but would've thought an expensive interface would've had a plug for them. I just cut it off and wired them direct to the Pioneer, working great. It was...challenging to fit all those wires and the interface back there, I'm dreading taking it out when the camera cords come... But for now, it's pretty and the sound is above and beyond my expectations.

Apple carplay is ok for music/phone, but for an expensiveish unit I'm disappointed there's not easier video inputs (like USB/hdmi - apparently the 6200's+ have HDMI and had I researched, probably would've ponied up $100 more.

Can't wait to get into the menus and customize everything, all I've done so far is change the lights to match the orange interior. Still need to find a permanent spot for the mic, install the second set of steering controls for bluetooth (the radio ones are working great), hook up the cam and sell the E7005. :trophy:
