Range 0 mi

Does it reset your XM radio for another "trial" period? That would be nice.
After managing 24mpg on a 400 mile drive last week, my MPG's are down at 12 after some heavy off-roading yesterday.
BTW, the highest I could get it to read was 60mpg going down the 50 mile hill from Mammoth to Bishop, CA.
 
It's kind of frustrating to have to "estimate" how many miles one has after the range reaches zero -- I keep track of my fill ups pretty carefully on Google Docs (even created a form =D) and I use the odometer reading from the previous fill up and the average MPG reading from the car (I also reset mileage for each tank) to estimate my actual remaining range:

Conservative estimate of actual range
= (ACTUAL RANGE WITH FULL CAPACITY) - (DISTANCE TRAVELED SINCE FILL)
= (23.5 gallons * MPG from car) - (Odometer Reading Now - Odometer Reading @ Last Fill)

Estimate of remaining fuel
= (TANK CAPACITY) - (FUEL USED)
= 24 - (Odometer Reading Now - Odometer Reading @ Last Fill)/(MPG from car)

It would be SO much easier to have an ACCURATE and precise range indicator -- the indicator may be precise, but again, we don't know to what value (e.g., how many miles can be driven after range = 0). You may think you have more fuel than you actually do with the range estimator being off so much.

The low-fuel light's a fine early warning, but I don't need Toyota to "trick" me in to getting gas early with an inaccurate range. If I see I have an ACTUAL 100 mile range, I can use Google Maps to figure out the nearest gas station within 100 miles and know confidently that I can get there. Understandably, fuel efficiency changes when driving, but the range should be a function of the actual remaining fuel left: not a function of the remaining fuel subtract 3 to 5 gallons. FWIW, I've gone ~60 miles after range 0 after I convinced myself that I still had 4.5 gallons left (conservative estimate assuming 23.5 gal tank). When I got to the gas station, I filled 22.04 gallons.

It's bothersome (and now I know not only to me! :)) to see a 350 mi range when you know you're supposed to get 468 +/- 60 miles @ 24 gallon capacity 17 city/22 hwy. Even with 23 gallons @ 17MPG, range should be up at 391.

Or, as mentioned above about the fuel-cooled fuel pump, Toyota might have quality and durability reasons why they don't want you running the tank below X gallons. So, for the best durability of the system, you may have to fill up when the "range" says 0 instead of running it down to fumes consistantly. So, while there is fuel left that you can drive on, the system runs better if you keep a minimum amount.

My little Briggs lawnmower is a good example of this. If I run it until it sputters to a stop, I get air in the fuel line and it is a total pain in the butt to restart. If I top off the tank before each use, it starts on the 2nd pull each time. It is a little extra work each time I mow the yard, but it means I definitely won't deal with a mid-mow fight to get it to restart because I prevent it from getting to that condition.
 
My range consistently says 330 or so every time I fill up. What's strange is, my average is 17.1 MPG according to the ECO screen (and it's always around 17.1 or 17.2 consistently). If you take 17.1 and multiply it by 22 gallons, shouldn't my range be saying 376 miles when I fill up?
 
I had a Ford before - same thing it shows that you range is 0 but in reality you can drive for 10-30 miles. I guess that car makers decided than it's better to be safe than sorry, most of the systems are designed for peope who need "content is hot" written on a coffee cup.
 
I filled up yesterday and my range immediately after fill up read 299. Is this the low mileage record?

4WD Limited, I live very close to work so a lot of my driving is stop and go short trips where the engine never really gets warmed up.
