Real Hi/Lo Beam LED bulb! AWESOME!

Mine showed up minute ago. Figured out where o-rings go, if not figured out already? They are spares, the silver keyed piece is removable o-ring is in groove on blue part provides the friction to keep from rotating.
Will get them in soon maybe this evening.

Done testing.

Using the exact same procedure as before, the highest reading I got with these bulbs was a little over 2,000 lux. So, about 400 lux less than my Philips X-treme Vision. Hmmm.

I did not go out for a drive though, and maybe i'll do that tomorrow, but from an objective stand-point, the output of these, according to a well-regarded light meter app is actually about 15% less.

Given that I'd prefer to use the OEM protective covers, prefer more output, probably have better longevity and get back 35 bucks, I'm inclined to return them... I might do a drive test first though.

Bummer, that's what I thought might be the case. The more bluish light appears brighter to our eyes such as with "cool white" LED's than a more yellow halogen but lack real distance. I trust the lux apps, they are pretty accurate if you have a high-end phone like an iPhone or Galaxy with a good camera.

I'll stick to what I have, it's already way better than what I started with stock halogens in a dirty, broken 98 housing lol. Plus I still have a light bar...

Ay guy's, won't get mine in tonight. About dust boot try this, separate silver keyed flange from blue bulb section, install in housing install boot slide blue assembly through boot.

I got mine last night and installed it in 5 mins.

I have to say, this is the first led headlights I've bought (out of at least 6 pairs) that actually doesn't blind incoming drivers.

Normally, the low beams on my old LEDs reach the rear glass and I can see the driver in front of me looking back thru their rear mirror.

With these... Its like angled perfectly. Focuses more on the center instead of like a V pattern like my other pairs some of them being 2x the price lol.

Best part is that the high beams actually make a difference. Before, the high beams were just adding additional light but no change in light projection angle or anything. With these, it throws the light like what high beams actually do and it's noticeable. Not sure on the brightness of the high beams compared to regular lights.. But it's definitely better than my other LEDs.

Haven't been flashed yet but if I do, normally the other driver is just being mean...whats weird is they have a brighter fking light and I'm the one feeling blinded before they even flash LOL.

I'll see if I can post some pics but my driveway is at an incline.

sugjavier - nice write up. I have had the same experience with these bulbs. It must have something to do with the design. They do not "scatter" light like the el-cheapo LED bulbs from Fleabay....They truly have a difference between high beam and low beam. I have noticed the reflective road signs show up a lot brighter out here in the country....LOL. Let's just hope they last at least the two years of the warranty and perhaps more....

I will be receiving the bulbs this week as well. I will post my thoughts on them when I install them. As long as they don't blind other driver's I will probably run them.

[MENTION=142122]96RedRunner[/MENTION] beat me to it. I tried installing these yesterday, and wasn't going to settle for not having the rubber boot on, as without them, there's plenty of room for dust/moisture to get into the light housing.

I too discovered that the silver plate separates from the blue section. Slid the rubber boot over the blue section, and then the silver plate back into place. Had to wrestle the rubber boot half inside out to get the bulb holder clip into place, but was then able to flip the boot into place. Since the bulb plug is on a longer wire, the plug is no longer semi-protected by the boot. I think I'll wrap some electrical tape over the plug to help reduce the chances of water/mud getting in there.

Drove 80+ miles in the dark tonight on residential roads, two lane highway and divided highway. Didn't get the sense that I was blinding anyone, and the white light really picks up painted lines, reflective road signage, etc.

Got some driving time in last night. First impression when I turned them on with a road in front of me was that there was no wow factor as compared to what I had in there... As I drove, visibility seemed to be better at shorter distances though, but not so much further out. The high beams left me feeling that the low beams are the strong suit. That said, I now want to install the previous halogen bulbs and try those again. I don't drive the 4runner all that much, so I'm not trusting my memory. However, I would know if these were a marked improvement compared to what I had installed previously, and that is not my sense. I encountered several cars along the way, and zero complaints.

The way you have the boot is not letting fan push heat away from unit, it is trapping the heat inside boot. Heat kills these things, might want to consider uncovering the heat sink.

I just put them in min ago. I left the boot off, I think it covers too much of the heat sink. Only reason for them is to keep moisture n dust out, you been running without for two yrs no problems wouldn't worry about it. I run dusty roads a lot probably a problem for me. Will come up with something.

Lots of interest in this thread, I'm hoping for more pictures, thanks to all those that contributed. I just got back from a hunting trip from CA to CO and got my share of cheap HID's blinding me at night so I'm very interested in the beam patter as I don't want to be "that guy".

It's not the bulb/LED that's a concern it's the transformer. they put the fan and cut the flutes in the heat sink for a reason, cooling, Prefer not to interfere with it.

Had elk and buck tags but it was 93F and everything was moving at night, no elk were bugling and the bucks were still in bachelor groups. If that wasn't bad enough the wind kicked up for 3 days which really kills the action. I saw some cows(female elk) when I hiked way in the uncharted areas but no bulls. the wind was all over the place, shifting in every direction which is horrible for bow hunting....
I did smoke a coyote at 52 yards that bit the tail off the ranchers dog last week, and a ground squirrel at 37 that was eating the water line to cabins, the repair cowboy hated that little sh#t, I was just about to say something when the rancher says "I haven't seen that ground squirrel today, my wife likes him".... Oooops.

I'll take a potentially shorter light life as the lesser of two evils. When I make it to a pick n pull I'll grab another pair of boots and hack them up, but at this point these are the only boots I have, and I'd rather keep them intact.

I just off-roaded thru water and mud splashing all over, I did not put the rubber splash guards back on because the instructions don't call for it (you can see the illustrations take the cover off yet don't put it back on).

So far the bulbs keep on working and i checked behind them, they got splashed then took them thru the car wash, still working! Yet I'm tempted to try to cover them up some but not reduce cooling. :cowboy:

Well now!

This is what I came up with. Followed FSM alignment procedure.
10' from wall, Cross hairs at 38" from floor which is center of HL. OEM housings.
things I found out, HL's on 30 min or so mostly low beam, the transformer gets warm+ Closer to hot in that amount of time. I started with power lead at 6:O'clock the beam pattern was lacking so I rotated Blue part which got what you see both are 4-5 O'clock now. I did no adjusting on HL's, LHL is somewhat aimed inboard, RHL about centered, both are about 2-3" low. Take it out on road tonight see how it plays out. They are better than what I had, drove it last night in city light no one flashed me, was also before I focused/rotated bulb, sorry for big azz pic.
