Real Hi/Lo Beam LED bulb! AWESOME!

So i bit. Found it interesting the shrouds won't go back over the rear ends of the LED lights and the instructions pretty much depict the shrouds being left off. Even though they say they're waterproof, I sure wish I could fit them on. Otherwise...

Will shoot a couple left side (sylvania silverstar halogen) and right side (new led bulb) for comparisons after dark.

Oh and the DRL feature (which i lazily never disabled) doesn't work with even one LED bulb installed, so that could be 'good' for many out there.

Of course it says not to stare at the light but i did for just a couple moments to see which parts of the LED bulb lights up with low beams and which lights up with high beams. Even during daylight the LED output is incredibly bright. similar in brigntness to a welding torch cutting with oxygen.

As the manufacturers description states the LED bulbs are designed very much like the standard or halogen bulbs. That is the LEDs are in the same locations, oriented to the same angles for both the low and high beams. As regular bulbs the forward portion of the LED bulb is what lights up during low beam and like halogens the rear portion lights up in addition to the front for high beam use. So I can see how they would work well in standard light housings using the standard reflectors built in. We'll see later....

Here are a couple pics of the overall package and close ups of one of the LED bulbs and one of my sylvania silverstars next to it for comparison. Both bulbs are oriented as they fit installed with the tops facing up for comparison. The shading is in the same place, under the forward portion of the bulbs and the high beam light is in the same place, rear end top portion.

Also the instructions of course are very general but I would expect they'd tell you what you might do with the 4 small o-rings. Thoughts?

Many of us, hopefully all of us, want improved illumination, but not at the expense of impairing the vision of fellow drivers.

I had a gift card for $39 because an order last week was late. Hopefully put that to good use.

EDIT/ADD: Objective measuring... i just download a free app called Light Meter to my iPhone. Pretty decent reviews. I will attempt to get some baselines tonight, something that I can replicate with these LEDs...

Yeah, I hate when they have conflicting info in the same listing, doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

I always read that 4300K gives the best light, and things start going south with higher numbers. I've had some 5000K in my other car, and it was pretty good, I just worry about 6000K. But I'll stay open minded .

Don't know about you, but I always carry a pair of headlight bulbs, typically in the glove box. For those who don't do so, you might want to consider such when "experimenting" as we all are about to do...

Curious to see the differences.

I have good success with Novsight LEDs in my Sienna van. I bought one of their new series with a fan for my FJ cruiser and cant wait to see how they work.

I say the same thing until I get behind the wheel of my Audi, projectors are real nice. Maybe one day tech will give us a happy medium between the two.

DRLs will still work, like OEM it is a little difficult to tell the difference in brightness between the two but there is just about the same diff as halogens.

I can see my LEDs flicker when in DRL mode, but only out of the corner of my eye not directly, odd.

They don't flicker once Full on or in Hi mode.

They are whiter but not Blue either looking at them or their output.

Overall they can't really throw light much further than halogens because they are limited by the reflector yet I think because they're so white it does look brighter and does appear the light is cast further.

Kinda worried about the moisture since they won't take the rubber end covers anymore.

I rated them OK as a slight improvement, the GF thinks they're great compared to the halogens so I guess that wins it!! They're keepers :cowboy:
