Last question ;) How much should the piece screwed into the diff be torqued to? I'd guess that it was about 20ft lbs when I stopped, but it didn't seem to stop spinning. It just got harder, but it never really felt like it bottomed out and I didn't want to strip it.

I believe that I read somewhere that somewhere in the upper 20's is correct. They mention it in this video that I posted in the first post of this thread (its been a while since I watched it).

To be honest I used the German tightening spec of "Goodentiet".

Just to clarify, did that guy mean "30 foot pounds"!??!?! or Inch pounds?

Because I went back and looked at my part (because it didn't tighten all the way) and it ruined the fitting. It warped all the threads and I never even made it to 20ft lbs of torque. Luckily the kit comes with four parts!

I believe he did...can't explain what happened for you...sorry to hear it ruined the fitting. As I believe I mentioned in the write-up, I just tightened with a hand wrench to approximately the amount of tension it took to remove the OEM fitting.
 
No harm no foul man! I'm used to working with ft lbs so it wasmy mistake to begin with - should've known from the onset that piece didn't need 30ft lbs of torque. I'm just so lucky the axle is steel! Maybe we could add a 30in-lb torque spec to the OP to help knuckleheads like me in the future? ;)

I just did my ARB diff breather kit yesterday morning. I just tightened the fitting till the it bottomed out and felt about the same torque that the OEM breather was. Only problem I had was marring up the e-locker rubber hose to the ARB line. Ended up using a piece of copper hard tube as a union. Just slide it in the end of both tubes and zip tied each side. Very tight fit on both sides. I was in a rush and could not see the top of the elocker where the vent fitting is at so I took what I could see. Easy install other than up and down off the floor an dragging myself around on the floor.

hi there ....nice thread, just got done with mine 5 min ago , not as bad as I thought .....before I finally connect the tubing to the fitting on the diff I do have 1 question...
the black tubing going into the fitting on the top of the diff just gets pushed into the fitting is that actually waterproof ? I mean is there a chance that water gets in ? that would defeat the purpose! do I have to apply some kind of RTV around the tube where it meets the fitting?

finally 1 more question : inside the air assembly the gold metal disc is the filter? it seems pretty restrictive if it is!

are you using the ARB kit? then no. it's a John Guest fitting, which is very common in plumbing. it's air- and water-tight.

the filter is sintered bronze. it may appear restrictive to you, but it allows air to flow perfectly. incidentally, this is the same filter on ARB's on-board air units. it's also cleanable by rinsing it in the opposite direction of airflow.

yes it is the ARB kit , very good quality it seems.

about the filter it really looks hi-tech ...

Installed the arb breather. Didn't do the e locker line yet because it needs a fitting to connect it to the arb line. Does anyone know which fitting will work. Just Barely enough line to run both lines with the arb kit so keep it tight and cut close.

Great write up. Even though I am mechanically inclined, i like seeing stuff from guys who aren't because it seems more through and easy to follow. am going to do this soon.
