This is certainly a valid concern, would hate to be denied warranty service because of a couple of simple splices. Hence my next question.
So the signal to activate the screen comes from the shifter. Would it be possible to tap into these wires at the shifter as to avoid any warranty issues? Obviously i haven't investigated this, just thought someone might already have an answer before i pull apart my center stack and console.

Apparantly LOTS of wires go into making that camera function.But, the system still needs a trigger to turn it on, and my suspicion is it's that red wire (reverse sensing) in the gray plug. The switch at the shift mechanism sends a signal via this wire when you shift into reverse. So- basically I am thinking you need to "trick" the camera into thinking it's in reverse to turn it on. Isn't this fun? I love this stuff!!! Good Luck, wish I was there.

Do you know if the wiring is similar on this system? I would really like to do this mod, but would really like to be sure of what I'm getting into before I start pulling things apart ! considering this vehicle has only 500 miles on it so far

I have no idea if it'll work for the 2012, because I don't have the wiring diagrams, or a 2012 with Entune or Nav. The real genius here is Nashman for posting the WD. I've referenced that for almost every electrical MOD. :bigok:
I will say that I would be willing to bet that the Entune/Nav units still have the G18 gray plug. If that's the case- fingers crossed- it should work the same way.
Someone will have to be the guinea pig- that's how we figured out this MOD in the first place. deekoi was willing to take the plunge to make sure it worked...it did!
Take the dash apart and post some pics of the wire plugs behind the HU. It'll take 10 minutes tops!

Looking at your 12v outlet mod now and the dash removal looks really easy!
I was a little worried cause I worked on a 4th gen a couple years back and the process was way more convoluted, involving taking apart the drivers side plastic under the steering wheel, etc.

If the part number is the same I wonder if it's possible to mod these models to show the camera in the mirror and the Nav screen. I think this would be useful since I am sometimes looking in the mirror when I back up.

So I have an interesting issue. I have the backup camera with Nav and did this mod yesterday. BUT, i used an OTRATTW switch instead of the type you guys used.
I did the mod as described, but realized after I cut the wires (stupid mistake) that my switch is one prong short for the way you guys did it. The OTRATTW switches have one input and one output. So, I wired the Ign. Hot wire (Dark Blue) into the input, and the output goes to the reverse sensing wire (RED) into the head unit. This makes the camera display when I flip the switch, but of course the camera no longer comes on when I shift into reverse (because I broke the circuit coming from the REAL backup sensing wire).
To fix this, I just reconnected the reverse sensing (RED) wire so it is just like stock, and simply spliced it into the output of my switch. This works perfectly.
The only issue now is that whenever I use the switch while driving, the 4LO light blinks in my dash. Then I turn the switch off and it blinks for another few minutes and goes away eventually.
I am thinking that maybe I need a diode to restrict the flow of electricity backwards when I flip the switch. Any ideas?

The MOD will not work with that switch because it needs it must be a SPDT (Single Pole, Double Throw) switch to isolate the circuit.
The switch you have is a SPST (Single Pole, Single Throw) switch.
You were able to make the camera work but you didn't isolate the circuit. The truck "thinks" it's in reverse but it "knows" it's not. The resulting confusion is causing the dash to light up.
