Low grade materials on this vehicle??Lol.....Watanabe stepped down last June and Akio Toyoda took the wheel.
The parts cost cutting report came out in late December 2009 and applies to 2013's .

tsk, tsk, Harper. facts and logic aren't some magic salve capable of countering an inane post riddled with chestnuts like "Kalifornia" "Nazi Pelosi" "tore up" and "Jap", punctuated with a sig line trumpeting a handgun's superiority to 911 (hope that's Doctor Smith & Wesson, in the event of a medical emergency).

now the dove hunting i completely understand... those little birds can be vicious. symbol of peace, my a$$. :biggrin2:
 
Lots of comments, some good, some bad.

I live near Flint, MI. I am surrounded by current, or more likely former GM, Ford, and Daimler-Benz employees. I have caught a lot of flak from parents, friends, and neighbors. I hear things, like, why don't you keep the work onshore? Why would you betray the local economy? They aren't what they used to be ....

However, it got a different reception at work. There are several Toy fans here. One caution that I heard from them was, "only buy vehicles manufactured in Japan. Don't mess with the domestic stuff." I get tons of comments on the looks. Nobody asks about the price.

I can see the parking lot from my office, and see people eyeing it all day long. Vendors, applicants, etc, taking a long look as they walk by. :)

It doesn't feel like you are driving a truck, with its smoothness, it takes me to where I want to be. My uncle test drove mine and he went and bought the same truck as me. I am sure at the end of the day, Toyotas always make its owner very happy and Toyota finds its way to become NO.1 again (though, it is still number 1 in most of its dedicated customers mine). This is my first Toyota as well and it's the best quality vehicle I've ever owned. We just took the family on a vacation and rented a car. They were all out of Camry's (took a Camry on vacation last year and it was the best ride ever). Anyway, they offered me a 2011 Chevy Impala which only had 500 miles on it. What a POS. I can't believe I'm hearing all the GM commercials about how people are moving from Toyota to GM. What a joke. If I got the speed up to over 80 MPH, it felt like I was going to lose control of the car. In the Camry last year (it was a 2009 by the way and a 4 cyl), I would be doing 90 and didn't even know it.

Anyone who buys a GM because they believe Toyota has lost its luster is a fool in my opinion. By the way, after the 2,600 miles I put on the Impala, it drove worse than my '99 Jetta which has over 109k miles on it.

Some people are afraid to switch to something they have never used before, but if willing to give it a try, the products will speak for themselves loud and clear.

I feel you. I'm originally from Southeast Michigan. My dad is a retired GM guy so I got all kinds of flak for buying a Toyota. But it would have been totally cool for me to buy another Silverado even though the POS is made in Mexico. We have more or less agreed to just not discuss the issue. It's like trying to discuss religion or politics with someone. Gives me the urge to :ybrick:
 
I have bought toyotas one after the other one for years now, my new 2010 4runner has somewhat disappointed me. It has a rough idle I can not live with and the dealer says it is normal. The ac is a little poor for south Florida's heat. My kids tell me all the time they are hot in the back while I am freezing in the front, I can't imagine sitting all the way back in the 3rd row seats on a hot day or having leather seats. The plastics in the cargo compartment scratch way to easy and now that I installed the hitch's tongue the reverse sonar goes of all the time. This did not happen with my FJ. And last it would have been nice to have a roof light at the end of the cargo/3rd row seat compartment like my 2005 4runner had.
 
tell them that Toyota builds more cars here than the big US auto makers, My Jeep was built in Canada and I drove by a huge plant in Mexico that builds all GM trucks and SUVs. I only buy Toyotas that are built in Japan.

Told him I only have had mine a few weeks but was surprised how tore up the cheap plastic panels in back cargo area were from the gear I had in there:mad:

how easy the plastic scratches is one of my problems with my new 4runner, same thing with my FJ.
 
I definitely think Toyota took a punch in the gut with all of the negative publicity stemming from the sticking gas pedals issue. However, I am convinced their quality is as good as ever. I bought my Trail at the same time my buddy bought a new Jeep Rubicon. I was surprised how nice the Rubicon was when he first got it. But, I hadn't been in it in a few months and he picked me up the other day and the noises and creaks were already starting...i had the same issue with a Jeep I owned many years ago. no such issues with my Trail. This is my 4th 4runner, and so far I've taken all of them over 125,000 with no major issues (knock on wood) and sold them for a great resale value.

Yes gas is more expensive in 2010 than it was in 1985. If I remember correctly, a gallon of regular unleaded was right around the $1.00 mark back in 1985. I worked at a gas station back then (I was still in high school) and I'm pretty sure a buck/gallon was the norm.

With inflation, that same buck in 1985 would be worth just about $2.00 today. And a gallon of gas is around $3.

On the other hand, my salary is more than 15 times greater today than it was when I was working at the gas station during high school... :bigok:

What was the MSRP on your 4Runner? $26K sounds like you got a good deal, but was it a lightly optioned SR5? The only reason I ask is because my '04 Sport had an MSRP of $35K and I couldn't get them down to $26K. I ended up paying $29.5K, which I thought was a fair price at the time. Not too bad for a basically loaded Sport Edition.
