Removed Roof Rack from TE

Yep, I'm resurrecting this thread.
To answer Rob G, I got a bag of 4 extra tie downs and instructions on how to mount them but did not get the covers.
Also, the .25" bolts recommended in the first post are too short for my mounts. I've got .5" and they are too short also. Going to try find .75" nylon or stainless.
As mentioned earlier, the rear bolts were a byatch with my crappy, walmart multi-tool. Recommend a socket (T40 size) and long ratchet.
I just took off the rack after being inspired by pics of Harper wheelin' in Utah. I think it looks cool. Should be easier to wash/wax at least. Maybe I'll get better mileage, yeah right.

I ended up putting the rack back on.
#1. My GF said it made the 4R look like a station wagon and we couldn't have that.:wink2:
#2. I liked hodge-podge 5 piece molding/covers underneath less than the rack.
I used marine goop to assure the bolts were watertight.
I also cleaned and waxed the area underneath the rack before re-installing.
Haven't put on the crossbars yet. We'll see.
The bolts I had on had were 12mm (1/2") long and they didn't touch the threads.
Final thought, I wouldn't recommend taking off the rack for fun.

Pretty sure it is item 4 on page 139( Clip, Moulding (2/Side) 75561-52020) of the parts manual ,but ask your local parts dept. to verify.That's the drawing for the 4cyl model which didn't come with roof rails standard.

I did order those clips you pointed out but they are some other little plastic clips for the mouldings. I checked the parts manual up and down with no lock for the part nunmber. I know this clip is used in the older (4Gen) 4Runner models and on the Toyota Prados (GX470) but can't find a parts manual with diagrams for them either. Since ToyoDIY.com removed all of their diagrams it's useless to even look there and my local parts department is not very helpfull. Thanks anyway and will keep looking.

Tell the parts department to look at the TE for the part number. I'll take another look at what I have when I get back from Portland.

Same here. I had to buy the covers as they probably got discarded when they installed the off-road rails.I got everything you did, except for the hole covers and bolts.
Maybe they are in the bottom of my glovebox somewhere, that thing is huuuuuuuuuuuuugeeee.
