Ripcord's 2002 4Runner Sport Ed.

those first ones dont look too bad, I know i have the porcomps you have posted there and im not a huge fan of how the hub sticks out, but then it does make it kinda cool. You should be able to get the procomps for cheaper. I think i paid $90 a wheel at Discount Tire a few years ago.... but then it again we are in a recession. Just find some cool guys that think your truck is bad ass work a deal. I cant wait to see them on your rig man!

BTW the procomps clean up real nice too!

I like the pro comps also. The price was the only thing that the v-tec wheels had over them. I just need to shop it and find a good price.

i forgot that i i did this but i found the procomps in the 4wheel parts magazine and they were listed at $90 a wheel, i showed Discount Tire the price and they matched it. Yeah i think they wil look bad ass on your truck!

Hey Rip, I've read your entire 6 page thread today on looking at your lift setup. As soon as I like something you did and put it on my "to buy" list you change it up, darn you!

I'm looking to do a nice lift but keep a moderately stock ride. I don't do much off roading but may hit the occasional trail while going camping or fishing.

My struts & shocks are gone in my 98 so I was looking at the complete OME Kit. (Complete OME suspension for 96-02 4Runner - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits).

Given your experience, would this kit be a comfortable ride? I was thinking of roughly 2-2.5" lift with the 881/906, putting on a 265/75/16 tire....

Pls let me know what you think! Thanks

Another recent picture. Just because she looks so purty.

haha sorry, I never make up my mind about anything.

Anywho, 881/906 is a great choice for a 2.5" lift. But speaking from my experience, I would not go with the front OME 90004 shocks in the 'Complete OME' kit. They are great and all, but tend to ride a bit more stiff than others. I have heard that from many others too. Plus, my friend has a Tacoma with the 881/Bilstien 5100 combo in the front. And it rides so nice, not too stiff, not too soft.

My recommendation:
Front Shock: Bilstien 5100 adjustable. Set to 1.25 (with the 881's it will bring it to 2.5"-3" lift, which will level the ride)
Front Coil: OME 881
Rear Shock: OME 60028 or Bilstien 5150 (funds permitting)
Rear Coil: OME 906

For a 2.5" lift, don't worry about a differential drop or a panhard drop bracket, not necessary.

Also don't forget the toytec discount code. It should be 112710.
Let me know if there are any other questions. :bigok:

Sweet dude, you rock. I was thinking of a 3" lift then I started hearing about the differential drop, etc and I don't want to have to deal with all that if I don't have to. What are your thoughts on that? I like the looks of a 3" but I fish alot and put a kayak on my roof....thinking the 3" might make it a little tougher to throw that baby up there.

With this lift kit, I'm assuming the coils ARE the springs, or are they 2 separate things? I should still have oem springs but since I'm doing all this other work, maybe upgrade those also?

Yeah coils=springs, same thing. Diff drops aren't too bad, its super easy to install and takes like 15 mins. Its the panhard drop that is a more difficult install, it involves grinding and welding.

If you keep your running boards on (assuming you have them) then 3" shouldn't be a problem with getting stuff on the roof. Although if you plan to get a 265/75/16 tire like you said, I would just stick with about 2.5". Little tires on a big lift look weird.

Haha, cool. Thanks for clearing that up.

You wouldn't recommend the 881 with the top plate spacer and the 890's? That would put it at a 3" lift right?

And as far at the setup you recommended, if I did the 881 w/the Bilsteins you said it would roughly be 2.5-3" for the front, then the 906 in th rear at 2". Wouldn't that look a little uneven with the front being taller?

Plus I want that size of tire for fuel economy rather than going with the 285's...???

The front is shorter from the factory, its called 'rake'. So a little bit more lift up front just levels it all out.

If you go with the billys up front, you won't need the top plate spacer because you can just set them at 1.25 and that does the same thing. But if you go with the OME 90004 shocks in the front than you will want the top plate. Both of those choices will net you 2.5" lift. If you lift the rear 3" and the front only 2.5, then you will have even more rake than you do now, something to consider. If you go with the bilstien 5100 at 1.25, OME 881s, and a top plate spacer, that will get right at or just above 3" of lift.

For the rear, If you are wanting to go more toward 3" than the 890s are also a great coil. Beyond 3" you have the LC80 7wrap good for about 3 - 3.5", the LC80 8wrap good for 4 - 4.5", and the LC80 9wrap good for about 5".

Tires: those 265/75/16 are just a little bit bigger than the stock 265/70/16. So you wont notice too much of a difference over stock, and economy will be about the same also. 285's and up are when the MPGs start diving. Which tire are you looking at going with?

I don't mind it a liiiittle taller rake in the back like blcktpgsr's - although his is a little more than little.

I think it'll come down to this:
Front Shock: Bilstein 5100 adjustable. Set to 1.25
Front Coil: OME 881
Rear Shock: Bilstein 5150
Rear Coil: OME 890

I figure the extra $$ I would spend getting the plate spacer I could put towards the nicer Bilstein shocks. So this should be a nice comfy ride...? Whatcha think?

Tires I had down to 3 choices:
1) Bridgestone Dueler AT REVO, my roomate has them on his jeep and loves them, plus tirerack has very good ratings. Looks a little aggressive but not so much.
2) BFG All Terrain T/A KO. Looks more aggressive which is what I like but reviews are just under REVO according to tirerack.
3) Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac. Love the look, but figure I will get less gas mileage as I drive mostly asphalt and like I said, only go offroad occasionally.

I'll be doing a roadtrip to Maine from Florida at the end of next month so I'd like an aggressive tire but definitely want it to do good on gas.

Hmm, If I was in your shoes I would choose the front top plates over the upgraded rear shocks. Also, since you decided on a 3" rear lift with the 890s', I would go ahead and get the Bilstien 5125 rear shocks that are only for a 3" lift. They are $100 less than the other upgraded bilstiens. I have those now and I absolutely love them.

Tires: I agree about #3. Both the BFG and the Revo are great tires. The BFG A/T's are a heavier AT that most, which will hurt MPGs (barely). The Revo is not quite as aggressive, but still a great all terrain tire. My choice would be the BFG.

The only reason I was thinking of the 890's would be to prevent any sag and any chances of the rear being lower than the front, b/c that's the last thing I would want. I would be very happy if the front was level with the rear by going with the original 881/906.

But instead what you are saying is this setup?:
Front Shock: Bilstien 5100 adjustable
Front Coil: 881 w/10MM Lift Enhancer Kit (top plate spacer)
Rear Shock: Bilstien 5125
Rear Coil: 890

Yes. for 3", that's what I would do.

cool, now to figure out if I want a 2-2.5" or 3" with my little 265/75/16's. Since I don't have to do a differential drop I may go with the 3" now. :snacker:

Why can't this be easier :)

Update:

-Lately my steering has felt a little rough. Going over bumps and around corners is no longer smooth as it should be. I was already planning on doing the tundra brake upgrade, so I might as well do some other work while i'm down there.

I ordered:
-Wheelers Off-road Steering rack bushing kit.
-Sway bar bushings. I alreadyl have a set of brand new front swaybar bushings to install from the wheelers' off-road "Ant-sway" kit.
-Still need to order the brake parts. Trying to find the best price.
-Also looking into manual hubs..

Wheels Update:

So I tossed the plan to get a different style 16" wheel like the procomp. New plan is to get a 17" wheel and 285/70/17 tires, just to be absolutely sure that the Big tundra brakes will fit. I have already ordered a set of 17" wheels and I'm looking for a set of lightly used tires. I like the tires I have now, but they are not available in 285/70/17, so I may try to get Duratracs or KM2's or something.

This is the Konig Countersteer Type-X. It was discontinued, but a guy on Tacomaworld has a few sets left, so I claimed one of them. Should be here in 2-3 weeks.

Adio3x has a set of this exact tire/wheel combo and it looks killer.
