rochmpr Rev. 4 - Broke (Build) Thread

great video!! hard to see from the angle in the second one, but what was holding you up?? Really looked like you had it on the 3rd try.
I was getting hung up on the large boulder on the driver's side. That spot is a tight S bend with little room to maneuver. There's a tree, which I backed into, the large boulder on the drivers, rock wall on the passenger and that large rock right in the middle. Ended up dropping the slider down on the large boulder and kind of pivoting around. That's the reason drivers front was off the ground in the one video.

So your saying some guys ran through there and tore it up being stupid or when they rebuilt it, they didn't think it out right so it got tore up due to guys being stupid,in your oppion?

Some of the first videos and pics I saw, it looked doable, but tough. I'm pretty sure it was tore up by people being stupid and trying to take and make super difficult lines.

Here you go. If the upper link was offset like the lower, it would gain more room and should eliminate the contact on the tank.

For reference, my upper link is about 12-1/2" eye to eye.

Feel free to make me a set while you're at it. [emoji23]

So, I’m getting ready to gather up parts for my front and rear LT. Game plan is to build my own links, the uppers double offset. I’ll let you know how that Turns out.

If you don’t mind me asking, how do you like the Dobbins rear springs? Do you like the 400lb rate, or would you go heavier? We have very similar setups. I’ve got Icon Overland 3” and they were great, until I added a lot more weight. This hunting season, I was pretty loaded down and it really showed. I talked to MT about their HD springs and they actually told me that they’re about the same weight as what I have and gave me the name of a local spring manufacturer to look at a custom set. Not sure which way I’m going to go.

I think the Dobinsons are the heaviest rate you can get and honestly, I wish I could get even heavier. I think Dobbinsons may be doing that soon, based on a comment from Mike. They flex awesome. Definitely glad I went that route. Forgot that sweet dimension, but I'll pay for, shipping on those double offset links:rockon:

Next year, Rubicon, let's do it!

Funny you mention the Rubicon. That’s kind of my motivation on this. We did (attempted is a better word) the Rubicon this year and it it ate our lunch. We camped on gate keeper for 2 nights, doing part runs. It was just a bad run of luck on that trip. I’m not usually “that guy”. but I will be back, this time on 35’s!

If I read it correctly, yours are 400# springs. I noticed that he has a 600# now. That’s why I was wondering how they were working out. I may go that route

The links, I’m going to do a builder Johnny joint on the frame side, offset, and an offset busing at the axle. I think it’s going to work out well and if it does, I’ll definitely hook you up.

Thanks again for the info!

Another thing I have discovered is it seems that the upper link hits the tank on full droop out of the entire axle, but if only the drivers side drops and passenger side is fully compressed, there is no contact. Geometry is a MFer.

Ya, I really should have paid more attention in math. Do you think that the offset at both ends is enough to make it clear, or would a bend be needed too?

I may email Mike then as well. I’d be curious to see what the current super heavy progressive would be like with the rate increased on just the soft end, if possible. It ramps up quick, I guess I just don’t like how soft the top end is. Did you make it to the rubicon?

Unfortunately, no. The one person I had committed had issues with 4WD so it was a no go. Need anT4R 5th Gen run next season.

Damn. Sorry I couldn’t roll, I’ve been down in Tucson doing property stuff. Some AZ friends and I are working on dates for a trip to Todos Santos in November if you can swing the time off, we’re crashing my old man’s place down there. Technically he needs help building a chicken coop so that’s our rationale for the trip haha.

I’m all ears on that too. I tow a trailer sometimes and fully loaded, with that hooked up, the icons just aren’t cutting it. I know that there is no one shot, one kill, for everything I want to do. But, i think I can get close. I’d like to keep from running airbags and just have the best setup that I can.

As far as I am concerned, one shot one kill is normal. Oh wait, that's just the jar head in me. :sniper:

Nothing wrong with air bags!

Just found these on a search, since my stock bushings are shot, and possible will have the same problem going with a larger diameter shaft.

Non adjustable? If you swap to a double cardan, you'll need the adjustability to rotate the pinion up. What's shot, Johnny's or the other end bushing. Should be able to source new ones.
