Rock Rat's Imperial Jade Mica "Next Adventure" Build

is that all stainless? looks great. i love the tip.
Yes. Fantastic looking exhaust. I'm pleased but will have to do a before and after video.

ok. and how much are the elusive headers?
I think I paid $775 or more for them.

Trust me, that's a lot for an exhaust system I know. I just found a link for a set from Boch Toyota but you need to call first. A lot of times you may find them on the website but they actually don't have them since they are a discontinued item. Give them a call if you're ready...

Being stainless steel is a huge plus, I've heard to be careful of aftermarket exhausts after the muffler part due to it not being true ss

Decided on a Toytec Lift because it was well thought out, tried and true, great reputation as a proven performer. Furthermore, it was exactly what I was looking for to meet my needs.

TRD Headers and Diffs Arrived

Well, nothing like having the work piling up on me with little down time. This past Saturday I came home to three boxes delivered from ECGS. Both the front and rear fully assembled 4.88 diffs arrived along with a box of Lucas oil.

Today I came home to a nice box with TRD on the side of it. My headers arrived.

PN - 00602-17141-007 These fit the 1999-2001 4runner V6 - 2WD &4WD LEV spec only. Basically a dual cat. I'm pretty sure all domestic T4R's from 2001 up are FED/LEV. I'll edit if I'm wrong.

The good thing is the headers came with the improved bolts with the springs. I hope I'm not chasing exhaust leaks one they're installed. With the SC installed, I hope I can manage the heat in the engine bay. I have some concerns, but am happy to "open" the exhaust first on this motor before installing the SC.

Here's some pics for you.

I've also included all 12 pages of the instructions in PDF format.

Dude, where did you find the 007 TRD headers???

Dude, where did you find the 007 TRD headers???

Found them on eBay being offered by Fremont Toyota out of Fremont Cali. Less than one hour from you. I've been checking everyday for months. Gave them a call first to make sure this was real. Sure enough. The last one. I saw that Boch may have them but call first. Good luck!!

This is what I entered everyday Headers Link

In preparation for the SC I'm opening up my exhaust first.

Nice! I did the same thing. I had a feeling I might end up SC'ing so when my exhaust manifold cracked I replaced it with the Doug Thorley Headers. Then when my muffler got a hole in I bought the JBA Stainless cat back. Dont forget the highflow cat.

Edit: I didn't didn't realize it came with a resonator & I read about the cat.

Hey RR, exhaust in yet?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Not yet. Gears are going in this weekend. Exhaust is next week. I'm doing some recording this morning. First one is 4.10's at 70mph with standard exhaust, ISR and deck plate mod. Next will be the 4.88's at 70mph with standard exhaust, ISR and deck plate mod.

Looks nice, I polished my stock exhaust tip the other day.

Can you do a before and after sound test for us?

Doing some before sound recording today with stock 4.10's on the highway and then the 4.88's installed and stock exhaust. Next week I'll install the exhaust and do the after recording with the 4.88's on the highway.

Installation of the 4.88 Gears

Don't look for a build on the 4.88's here. I'm too dang busy and lazy to do the installation myself. I'm having them installed over the weekend.

For what it's worth here's a breakdown on the diffs. These are fully assembled front and rear differentials with a gear ratio of 4.88:1. I decided to leave them open instead of adding the ARB locker.

Total Cost(with the core charge) - $1977
Subrtract the Core Charge - $300 + $250 ($550)
Total from ECGS - $1427

Gear Oil is Lucas - 85-140 High Performance Oil

Here's a few photos of them on my bench as I examined them to ensure everything was OK. And off they went...

May 19th, 2016 - Update on the Diffs:
I had the diffs installed at Broadway Toyota in Portland. Only Chris Jette is allowed to work on my rig. He's the master tech there and with three toyota's in my family, they know me fairly well.
Installed at 336768 miles
Drain and refill at 337340

Total break-in miles - 572

Drove my 4Runner around trying not exceed the 70mph but damn that was hard. The new gears added so much more spunk to my rig. I couldn't believe the pedal response I had now - instant. I no longer needed to hit the OD or the ECT switch to get the power I needed.

RPM's are sitting around 26-2800 at 70-75mph. this is a very acceptable RPM range for me. I had anticipated between 3 and 3500rpm's based on all the charts and calculations I've read. I'll be using this post to document my mileage over the next month or so for those considering the higher gears over the 4.56's. I know I'll take a hit in the MPG's but I'm not worried about it. The reason I chose the 4.88's was it gave me the flexibility to add more weight (bumper, loaded down rack, winch etc...) and/or move up to a bigger tire without worrying about gears. The second reason was because of everything I've read and heard from others about regretting they didn't put 4.88's in instead of the 4.56's.

Check out the video with the TRD Cat Back and 4.88's while driving. This will give you an idea of the "feel".

I've also attached the ECGS New Gear Break-In Procedures.

The following two photos are related to this post "Rigid Industries A-Series Lights in Cargo Door"

I used a Deutsch Dt Series 2 Pin Connector Kit with Solid Connectors

This allows me to SAFELY install the lights and wiring and still have the ability to remove the interior cargo door panel as needed.

My temporary switch for the lights is the one that came with the Rigid Industries Hyper Spots. Again, neatly tucked inside the storage compartment. Because they're wired in with the dome light switch, the cargo lights come on whenever the cargo door is raised. They turn off when the door is closed.

For some reason I can't seem to get my masking tape switches to work. I must have them wired wrong.

Actually I'm still deciding whether or not I want the switches exposed or neatly tucked away inside. Not sure what switches I want back there. Any ideas let me know. Definitely cargo lights and compressor, stove/and or table lamp, etc.....
