If you want to play with the big boys get bump-outs. I've used the bump-out on my Bud Builts to pivot around rocks and trees multiple times. Without them I would've ended up with rear panel damage after the obstacle reached the end of the slider. Plus, the Bud Builts will fit perfectly with a set of BB skids, which you'll also need to play with the big boys

So what's the point of that \\"bump out\\" part of the slider? Just for standing on to load/unload stuff to/from roof? Does it do any good when wheeling?

Pushes the rear of the vehicle away from the rock so the rear quarter panel doesn't slide into it.

Yup, most of them anyway, pretty basic. The biggest pain in the ass is getting all of the bolt holes drilled in the plates and lined up. I made cardboard templates that worked awesome tho.

The bump outs are a must if you offroad anywhere there could be trees, rocks, vehicles, or zombies to slide into. They also protect nicely in the parking lot, destroys peoples doors in smaller vehicles that don't see them.

Noob at this, but looking to get some sliders. The stock rockers are a plasticky POS IMO. Very flimsy. I'd like to remove them, but the gap that is left from the one photo I saw is concerning. Leaving them on is not an option. The shrockworks rocker looks good, but it seems to have a gap on the ends that would quickly fill with dirt and other crud and be a nightmare to keep clean. I'd love to see some more better pics of the various sliders you all are using with the oem rockers removed. Is there anyway to install the slider up tighter against the body to not have the space left over from the removed rocker? Also wondering why Toyota doesn't offer a rocker set as an option. The stupid running boards are a joke and I've removed mine at day one. I understand the 4R has predrilled holes for certain rockers to bolt right up. They just didn't carry it any further. :shrug:

Plenty of threads on cutting the rocker, or replacing it with the Trail Edition rocker and front fender flare. But for my two cents, I would either cut them or go with the Shrockworks option. If you go with SW, simply ask them to bend up some material on the back end and use a screw or push-clip to secure it to the rear fender lining like the OEM rocker does. Should not be a big deal to ask for. However, even as-is I think the SW option is fine. If you have concerns you can also always spray some closed cell foam in there as mentioned .

You can cut the rocker yourself; don't need a shop for that.

Another small item that I don't think has been addressed here is regarding paint vs powdercoat. Most companies offer to powder coat them when you order which I think is a waste of money. Although powder coat is stronger than rattle can paint it will not hold up to a 4500 lb vehicle sliding over a rock. I have quite a few cans of "hammered" black that I use for my skids and sliders. Much easier to touch up after a fun weekend than powder coat.

Agreed. I did my skid plates in the hammered silver stuff and my sliders with a rattle can bed liner for the same reason. Also doesn't hurt to put some sort of strip of grip tape along the top of the sliders if you're using them as a step. Mine are incredibly slippery when they're wet or I have snow on my shoes.

The rocker trim we sell was intended to be a cheaper replacement for the trail trim from toyota. Its simply a cosmetic cover plate to mask the seams that are exposed by removing the SR5/Limited trim. Any debris that may find its way in the small openings on the ends will just as easily drain out the bottom since there is nothing sealing the bottom side of the panel.

Like mentioned here also, there are some guys doing some pretty clean cut jobs as well.....Here is an example of one of our customers here on the forums.

I went with the Shrockworks and cut my rockers. Got under the truck yesterday and boy have they saved me a few times.

Fairly easy to cut the rockers with a dremel.
