Safari snorkel on a 5th gen?

It does seem to stick out a bit far... but I think most of that it the picture angle. In real life it may not be so bad. Would like to see more pics...

I don't care as much about the aesthetics as I do about clearance. I have to pull in my passenger mirror often on some of the trails I do...

The 5th Gen snorkel sticks out from the body so much more than the one I had on my 100-series. I wonder why.

I think it depends on the vehicle. On a built 4Runner, or any vehicle for that matter, I think a snorkel looks right at home on the fender. However, a snorkel looks a little out of place and oversized on a stock vehicle.

I also look forward to less dust ingestion on our dusty as heck trails out here.

This is the main reason I put one on my 4th gen and considering one for my 5th gen. The trails out here have been ridiculously dusty the last couple years.

Aw.... did I hurt your feelings? Dont take it personal, i live in a place where it floods so I was on the fence, i get the function, i ran them in my other vehicles but it looks like a tumor on the 5th gen.... ill wait for something different or custom... dont be upset I still love your rig

Like I said above, I think it depends on the vehicle. Some look great with a snorkel but it looks out of place on others.

You don't see the tacoma guys *****ing about how this snorkel looks. I guess 4Runner people are more concerned about how their "overland cosplay" gear makes them look fat.

Actually, there's been a few complaints on TW about the fatter design. It's a function over form product but I do think it looks great on most trucks.

I have used Hilux Snorkel designed for 4 cylinder on my 2005 4Runner and don't remember having an issue with airflow. It looked much slimmer then this one, but I'll better have this then nothing.
P.S. I don't think anyone will bring another Snorkel product to the market for the 5th Gen. Safari already concure it.

I also doubt anyone else will release a snorkel for the 5th gen. I know I want one but I'm on the fence if I'll actually get one or not. I use the LC 80 snorkel on my 4th gen and airflow doesn't seem to be an issue either but there will definitely be plenty of air with the 5th gen design.

So here are my thoughts, and then I'm not going to re-hash this anymore as this thread has been close to 18 months of frustration.

Note how far of a distance between the hood line (which is where the airbox can be generally agreed as sitting flush against) and the outside of the fender (and the resulting curve). The rather massive rubber coupler required to mate the two up together is a good indicator of the distances. Safari had to take into account what is a major issue with modern vehicle designs; curvy bodywork. In addition the snorkel appears to bulge a lot more because how it has to go from the fender inwards to mate up with the A-Pillar, which in turn is a lot more tucked inwards than old vehicles.

Yes, it's bigger than some older designs, but they're contending with the very geometry of our vehicles, and in addition we're getting a product that acts as a CAI without compromising the sealed nature of our intakes AND...you get a TINY bit of performance increase as well.

For the vast majority of people this is just overland jewelry justified as "oh yeah I'll totally benefit from it!" however it's also an incredibly functional part backed up by a great company. If the asthetics don't get you hard, sorry, please stand to the left and let everyone else with the cash move forward.

It definitely looks more stout than the pictures of the FTS I've seen. I think maybe having a heavier and wider base as well as at the elbow might be better for taking hits and overall structural durability in the long run anyway.

I really like this snorkel. If you look at Lawndart's front end photos, it really doesn't seem to stick out that far from the body lines and front tip of the quarter panel (and aftermarket bumper). Do I "need" one right now? Probably not. Did I get water in my airbox from my last fun jaunt through a giant mud-hole? Yes. However, that jaunt could have been avoided (personality flaw to never back down from a challenge will bite me one day). That being said, it might be nice to not have to think about what I'm driving through and just go... so there is that. My truck is still my DD, so I need it to stay in one piece. But it may not always be that way. There are other projects I would rate above this, to make my vehicle better for camping (which is mostly the point of my ever-so-slow (-because-of-puppies) build). I have enjoyed the updates on this thread and I do hope to have one of these one day... just maybe not right now.

I think it defiantly looks better on a lifted truck with meatier rubber...

That being said, I hated the look of the ARB bumper for 5th gens when it first came out...I hated the look of the 14' refresh when it came out....and I have/had both.

I guess sometimes the stuff grows on ya'. :boom:

A small lift and wider, aggressive tires makes it look right. Everyone wanted one when they first saw it on Lawndarts vehicle and nothing has changed size wise. Thanks for all the feedback Lawndart.

It looks right at home with my +2 Long Travel and 35s, which isn't exactly easy to do for most people, but that said it didn't look like shit either on my 285s + Icon Stage 6.
